    Ok, so here is a question;
    I have a 2016 Tundra, SR5 update package with the new 38 gallon fuel tank, however I've never been able to put more than 30 gallons into it? Even when the wife used it for a couple days and then I got it back with 8 miles till empty showing on the dash! At average 14mpg for the last year (20,500 miles on it) this would seem to indicate I have les than 1/2 gallon of fuel left. Yet at the pump it took only 30.15 gallons? What the heck?
    Anyone else experience this, any thoughts?

    Welcome to the site.

    You have a reserve. The 26 gallon tanks had a 5-6 gallon reserve when the Drive until empty read zero.
    You have 7-8 gallon reserve, and trust me, that is a great thing when towing with anything.

    I just bought a tundra trd pro. I did the same thing, ran it down to 10 gal till empty and it held 33 gal. I was like WTF? I was wondering how much gas was actually still in the tank. I did not know of a reserve. Glad to know.

    the "miles until empty" display is just an estimate. when the low fuel light comes on, you have about 8 gallons left. I always calculate my mpg at every fill up so I know I have about 120 miles left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on. i usually fill up with 30-33 gallons.

    I pay attention to the odometer rather than that display.

    It's always best to not drive much further when the gas light comes on. You want to leave some fuel in the tank to keep the pump cool. I have a 26 gallon tank when the gas light comes on and usually takes about 20 gallons. I want to leave about 6 gallons in the tank, in your case since you have a 38 gallon tank you want to leave about 8. I wouldn't think of it as a reserve so much as saving the life of your fuel pump.

    With my tacoma in the past i would fill up an extra gas can (3-5 gal) and hit the road on empty and keep driving until the truck runs out. That would let me know how many miles I have left after the light comes on. Sounds stupid but it was a fun test. I haven't done this yet on the tundra but I expect there to be many miles left in the large tank.

    I've put just over 32 gallons in my truck once. Ran the miles to empty all the way to zero plus 15 or so miles. I now know if I leave the house for work 35 miles away, that I can get home if the low gas light comes on anytime after I leave in the morning.
