On paper I have the optional 38 gallon fuel tank. Im finding that when Im down to empty and I fill up I only get 28 gallons to go in.

This is with the light on and the range down to 30 miles.

    Has anyone noticed this?

I read in another thread that the last 10 gallons is more of a reserve. You can keep going past the 28 gallons.

Yep light comes on about 28-30 gallons, this is heavily discussed in another thread. You still have a good bit more in the tank but Toyota wants the fuel pump/pick up to stay submerged and cool

    See fine print
Just keep driving another 150 miles and you will use up all 38 gallons

I rarely ever go below 1/2 a tank unless on a road trip. Running out of gas sucks. What is only worse.....is Running out of diesel in a Dodge after passing three stations in Anchorage in winter to save a few centavos. With a trailer in tow and die in the middle of an intersection....Disconnect, reprime. Blocked the intersection for over an hour.... In the freaking middle of winter....AK winter. This was not on my bucket list needless to say....thank you for that experience Ken!!!!!

OK, today I was pulling in to get gas. Light just came on as I was pulling in. She took 30 gallons of fuel. 8 gallons left.

I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra Crew Max. How do I know what size my gas tank is? Are there more than one size? I just bought a set of Smittybuilt sliders and I'm being told that the sliders won't fit if I have the 30 something gallon tank which was not anywhere I could see when I bought them. I have however seen them installed on other Crew Max trucks.

being that your truck is a 2013, you have the 26 gallon tank. the 38 gallon tanks were introduced in 2016.

Im curious about this as well. My 2015 does not have the 38g tank. Is the 26g standard?

Yes. The 26 gallon tanks were standard on all the tundras until 2016. At that time, the 38 gallon tank became the standard on all trim levels except for the base SR5; which still has the 26 gallon tank.
