if you dont tow 5.29s is a LOT. id say with 35s go 4.88s. 5.29s on 37s and up

Nope. 5.29s for anything over stock. I’d disagree all day long.

yeah and burning more fuel. not sure why everyome wants to run in high rpms. i have 35 and doing 80-85 im at 2k-2.2k rpms. id rather have it in. low. rpms while cruising than high esp with an aftermarket exhaust and SC

and thats your opinion. 5.29s are a lot if you dont tow or offroad all the time. 4.88s are fime for 35s and below for those not doing those often

    100%. 5.29’s on 32’s was awesome. 4.88’s from 4.30’s ain’t enough of a jump to justify it.

I gained back 1mpg going to 5.29s since my truck isn’t lugging around everywhere. At 80-85mph mpg is trash anyways. Supercharged, not supercharged, 4.30 or 5.29s.

For a NA truck, 5.29s are the best gear size. The second you add any weight to the truck, heavier 35 or 37” tires, camper, tow, etc. you’ll wish you had a little more. Why spend multiple thousands for a tiny improvement?

Nope, better MPG lol. Your exhaust is doing negligible amounts power wise but the supercharger is what’s keeping you happy. However you’re likely burning more fuel with stock gears and that supercharger than if you had 5.29s (I’d be willing to bet on that).

The whole idea is the engine load goes down with the 5.29s, which in turn offsets the higher RPM as far as fuel mileage is concerned. I’m mainly excited for 5.29s to get a whole additional usable gear ratio when towing than currently. That and the torque converter doesn’t lock until 4th gear, so with 5.29s I’ll be able to run steeper/slower hills towing while still having a locked TC and not heating the hell out of my transmission fluid.

Never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd say something in CA is a good deal when it comes to price, but that day has some. That's a helluva deal.

I got 35 Nitto ridge grapplers with stock gears. I want to go with 37’s next. I do pull a 29’ camper 5060 pound dry weight. I usually put it in tow/ haul mode and have no problem. I’m sure going to 5:29 gears will make a difference for the better. I checked with two places that said about the same price of a little over 5 grand. That’s a lot of money for me.

It's a lot for many of us.

Try to find a new to you set of gears. Maybe a buyer who never installed them so you can buy new below retail. You'll have an easier time saving money on that end vs labor because many places won't budge on the labor charge unless you get in on a group buy

Where are you located? ECGS is nationwide and cheaper then that! I’ve done the swap myself before too. Given, that install sucked.

I thought the same thing but went with 5.29s, and they are perfect for 35s. RPM at 80 is only 2400 and it just cruises along in 6th with the throttle barely cracked.

I'll say this everytime there is a regear discussion:

I regeared back in 2021 while I was naturally aspirated on 33" heavy ass Falkens. 5.29s were fantastic then while towing at max capacity. As stated, calculated engine loads drop by 20% on average, opens entire gear options while towing, and cruising it just putters along at only a few hundred RPM more than stock, but it keeps the TC locked, even under highway acceleration. So much more refined.

It was not cheap, but it was still the best value for any mod I have ever done to my truck.

With a power adder, I can tow at capacity and still keep a usable 5th gear with very little TC unlock. It scoots beautifully on the Dragy slip, too.

Finally, with everyone finally regearing their power adder vehicles, I'm curious if the transmission failures start to reduce since the regear should take a lot of strain off the entire drive line, especially those clutches.

Go 5.29s. unless you have the loudest, most annoying exhaust known to man, there is zero downside. Zero.

Oh, so your tolerance is already pretty high. :)

Slap that thing into 5th like @Silver17 suggested and see how loud it is for you at the same speeds. It'll be close enough of a test to mimic the lower load and higher rpm.

It’ll for sure be quieter than 1600-1800 rpm’s since you’re out of the drone frequency for that exhaust

I found the hardest part swappingvto 5.29's was getting that passenger axel to seat!

Looks like that chart is off considerably and doesn’t take into account the 6th gear ratio of .588. 65mph on 35s in 6th with 5.29s is about 2000 rpm like @rcsbguy video shows. 35s on 5.29s makes the effective ratio about a 4.88 on stock tires equivalent. The tundra has tall trans gearing.
