Starting with the '20's the GM 2500's GVWR can be had north of 10k now. In some instances there's only a few hundred pounds between the 2500 and 3500.

The new trailering sticker is one-stop shopping for tow/payload info for your particular vehicle. It doesn't any easier than this. Hopefully other manufacturers start doing the same. Here's the one for the '20 3500 SRW Duramax I test drove the other day.

Lord help me, I'm starting to sound like a GM fanboy now.

To get the HO Cummins with Aisin you have to go 3500 only.

But you can get a 3500 without the HO. I haven't dug a huge amount but I did notice at dealers the odd time (like 1 in 4) did mention it had the HO and Aisin. Does this mean 3/4 don't have the HO? I'd think not but I don't know of a quick way to check if a 3500 has it or not.

3/4 tons in the Ram lineup do not offer the HO Cummins. Kinda weird, but I bet it has to do with suspension differences between the 3/4 and 1 tons.

This is why I like the GM lineup. 10 speed, same motor across the diesel HD lineup, and same gear ratio.

I think his question was if 75% (3 out of 4) of RAM 3500 diesels are the regular output version and not the HO. I didn’t research this since I had to get a 3/4 ton on my vehicle allowance program.

    Ahhhhh....

I have no Idea on that one. Everyone I know with a Ram opted for the 3500/aisin trans.

Same thing with the Ford PS - at least you get the same drivetrain. Not like the de-rated Cummins is bad, but I would hate to buy one knowing I have options that are 25% more power.

I wonder if it's FCA wanting to sell more of their transmissions, not the Aisin's since they are a Toyota brand.

If not not mistaken, you got the Z31 package so yours will come with Ranchos.

Hard to say. I have a buddy that upgraded to a Aisin trans in his cummins after his 68RFE took a dump at 70K miles. He owns a Mechanic Shop and it still cost 8000.00 to buy/install a new transmission. That hurt me just saying that.

Ouch, and here I didn't think the $2500 premium to get the HO and Aisin was a bargain

If you tow and heavy(ish), go big or go home.

Always use T/H mode when towing as well with the Rams, no matter the weight. My boss’s salesman told him that is how they get out of warranty coverage.

Of course FCA is being shady. Lucky for me my wife only has a Ram 1500 for now, and it has less payload and towing than my Tundra so the Toyota does my heavier stuff. Ram has 3.21 gears so has piddly payload and towing, and still gets shitty fuel mileage

Yeah I called the dealer today and their website is incorrect. It does not have the Z31 package so I should be with shocks for now.

    The wait is killing me

Be aware of the lifter/cam issue with Rams over 75k miles.

Thanks, I sure will be, I've done some digging and it sounds like it's mainly from a poor design that eventually starves the cams of oil with excessive idling. So I've told the wife to have some fun pulling from lights and stop signs to keep the RPM's up lol. When I get in I do disengage the MDS to try to help it, but of course the wife just wants to jump in and go and not press the couple gear buttons to disengage MDS.

Ram did change the alloy slightly in 2016 to try to help with the wear, but sounds like they didn't change the oiling system so I'm a little skeptical that an alloy change will keep it from happening.

@shawn.roe24 , that's a really nice looking truck. House looks amazing as well. Side note, I see you have NY plates. What lake is that if you don't mind me asking? We frequent the finger lakes several times a year.

Small world. We just stayed at Keuka this past fall with friends. I used to go there when I was very little before my parents started taking us to a lake in Canada (which they ended up buying a cottage on). They're considering selling now as their age prohibits them from getting up there as much (the border crossing can be a bit of a pain). I wanted to try to convince them to purchase something on one of the finger lakes and Keuka is my first choice, but as you know, property is hard to find.

Anyways, we frequent Seneca the most just because we always drive past it on our way to Canada due to familiarity. We've stayed at places from the north end to the south end of the lake, but we actually really like the smaller feel of Keuka.

i did an inspection on this 6.6 gas 2500 and it made me regret ever considering a tundra. It’s a pushrod engine, and every part of it is beefy

Super small world! I’m in the north end on the west side of the lake. I grew up on Keuka so when we got the opportunity to buy a place we had to jump on it.

I actually love Seneca. The wineries and breweries are far better IMO. If you ever venture back to Keuka let me know and we can grab a beer and talk about Tundras! Maybe we will have a 2022 model by then haha

I have to be perfectly honest.... I absolutely love mine. It is so quiet and smooth. It has a great power band to it. It is completely smooth at all ranges. I do not get too crazy as far as what I tow, but up to 8k pounds it is fantastic! It holds gears and runs great. It gets pretty good mileage all things considered what truck it is in also.....:)
