Not sure how to respond to that, not even close to true.

Those of us who have chose to move to a HD domestic truck have done so for safety. I would hope everyone with a need well beyond what a Tundra is rated for would re-analyze their situation. Toyota also chose not to supply us with an HD option, I probably would have bought one if available.

Does anybody know what the GVWR is for the Tundra transmission? Perhaps this is the limiting factor.

Tundras/ toyota has a low payload rating because after world war II they learned being deceptive is bad for business. Also to attract business in the 70s/ american market they had to be a honest competitor compared to other trucks.

and in all reality i know my payload is 1357, no doubt i could add on an additional 300lbs and itll be a mental 1657lbs. Look at all the overseas Toyotas with 6-7 leafs in the rear. Toyotas are tough 1/2 ton trucks!

So what are the trucks doing? I'm guessing oil field work with Baker Hughes or field work. Those are hard miles on anything. I'm going to say this, and take it with a grain of salt. If your 2019 CM was doing the same work, I'm not sure how well it would work either in the long term. Mine started having issues by 60K with some expensive repair bills (for toyota). I would tow at the upper limits of the truck and was my daily driver. If I remember correctly I had 25% actual towing/working miles.

Now I have 80% towing miles and double and then some the weight with no mechanical issues in 68K miles (def tank heater fail and wheel speed sensor crushed by the suspension).

Pretty spot on with the domestic gasser segment.

On the way home tonight, I seen a Tundra with a ball joint failure (assumed) that had the front drives wheel ripped off and under the truck. That must have been sporty at 65 mph.

The guys I know with the older 2007 - 2010 tundra's work in the oil field here in northern Alberta , lots of rural back roads , gravel washboard type roads . definitely not easy on the trucks , these trucks have aux fuel tanks in the bed as well adding extra weight

But are they doing the same type of work beside fueling?

This reminds me of the guys that use 1/2 ton running gear for off-roading. I’m usually dragging them off the trail. If half ton drive train was so tough manufacturers would use it on 3/4 and 1 tons.

Its not necessarily about toughness , I think part of the reason for 1/2 ton drivetrains not being used in HD truck is partially due to the emission classes that they are in and different ecu programming to control emissions, Notice how the epa doesn't do mileage testing on HD trucks , its just in a different class . plus half tons are generally marketed for fuel economy and light duty work .

I think we might be comparing apples to oranges here . this entire discussion might not even be relevant

I towed my trailer for the first time with my F-250, made it with out any breakdowns! I weighed it with the trailer empty and glad I got the 3/4 ton. Towed great, I do have to dial in the WDH more, the dealer got it close but I’ll have to adjust for sure.

Rated tongue weight is 1020 lbs. we actually weighed it and it was over 1100 lbs with battery and two 30 LB tanks. The trailer was empty otherwise.

Im sure once I put stuff in the trailer front storage and bedroom it will go up quite a bit… tools, odds and ends, etc.

5th wheels from what I hear are the way to go but man they jump up in price quite a bit. They also make me nervous with how tall they are

I’ll probably get a 5th wheel in about 5-6 years. Just bought my travel trailer new at the end of 2019. It fits my family’s needs and it was cheap enough that I bought it outright. The 5’ers my wife and I like will be at least $60k, need to save up!

i really wanted to go that route, but it’s another $10k for the 5th wheel version of our Rv layout, and then another $2k for the b&w hitch setup.

Andre from TFL truck is thinking the HD Ram will get a 2023 refresh. 2023 or 2024 Chevy HD has already been spied.

Your truck reminds me of my F-250 diesel I had. It squated a crap ton with not much weight on it. I had the FX 4x4 towing packing. Soft ass suspension.

I had a 2015 Ford f350 XLT with 6.2 gas engine. The truck was great for the first 2 yrs, then electrical problems started. For the next 2 yrs the truck was in the shop 8 times. For a total of 4 months. I went back and forth with ford to get it fix, but they did not want to spend the time or money to fix it right, so when the warranty ran out, I traded it. I paid $48,000 for the Ford new, traded in for $24,000 with 36,500 miles on it. Electrical problems were common on Ford trucks from 2011-2018. Now I have a tundra. I just don't pull any thing over 7,500 lbs.

Yep, I traded my 2011 F250 6.7 w/ 61K on it for my Tundra. Started having electrical gremlins, had 2 calipers seize up, blower motor for the HVAC was intermittently working. Got 25K for it.

If you thought the electrical gremlin's were bad before just wait. I work on installing electrical equipment on F-450 and 550 and the 2021 electrical harness has got worse then what it was in 2020. The one that runs down the passenger side on the floor dose not even get any protection at all. Just a couple wraps of tape is all the protection it gets. In the 2020s it was wrapped the entire length. It will only take a few years before things will start grounding out and causing problems. Way too small of wire not to have some type of protection.

I had the same issue with the wiring harness shorting out on a 2002 Suburban. It would totally die—and I mean dead; everything went black—randomly on left turns. My mechanic buddy and I were stumped for weeks. He finally calls me and says, “Bring it over; I think I got it.” If I remember correctly, he said the idea came to him in a dream or something.

Turns out the wiring harness had come loose from the frame near the steering column. As the column turned, it would rub the harness. Rubbed through the insulation and everything. Happened on left turns only. Bizarre. And nearly impossible to see from every angle. We finally fixed it, and then the AC went out. That was going to cost more than the Suburban was worth, so we traded it in. I don’t miss those kinds of issues.

5th wheel RV's are great but please don't say you are camping with it. It's not camping. It's parking a mobile domicile overnight at a KOA with a bunch of snotty ass kids peeing in the KOA pool while you are watching SAT on the 65" boob tube parked 15ft from the RV in the adjacent spot next to you. Kuul beans.......

Some people actually haul the 5th wheels up into the mountains. Sure, you can't get as far off the beaten path, but you can still get away from people.

The mountains? LOL... Mountains with a paved road to get away from people, sure, but not happening here. Maybe find a wide enough 130 year old mining road to fit? Never have seen too many 5th wheeler campers up in the mountains here unless you want to beat the f**k out of it. Go for it.....it's quite hard to get away from anyone nowadays let alone with a 5th wheel RV. Are you serious?

I am serious, and the roads are not paved. They are forest service roads. Anyway, I don't have one, and wouldn't want one, but I've seen plenty of them miles off pavement and away from everybody that wasn't part of their group.
