Just like with home prices. Selling high will lose its luster pretty quick when you have to buy high as well. Overpaying for a gm/ford/ram stings more than overpaying for a toyota in the long run. Ive been looking at chevy’s. I just can’t convince myself to pay so much for such questionable long term value

Completely agree. The only reason I pulled the trigger on mine is that I was able to utilize the GM employee discount which was worth $4500 off sticker. Otherwise I'd still be in my Tundra.

Rides better? I have a 2021 f250 4x4 crew cab lariat rental with 500 miles on it.Its the worst riding truck ive ever driven.Ive had f350,2500hd and ram 2500 and this f250 is like an old mack and i dropped tires to 50 all around to make it bearable.

That’s a nice rental! It could be my preferences too. I drove a Chevy Trail Boss a while back and hated it - terrible ride. I also prefer a 6-speed over 10-speed transmission too…crazy I know.

Been looking hard at a Sea Ray SDX 290. Dry weight is 7k + trailer. I doubt my truck can handle the payload plus family. Won't get a boat for another year or so but now this dilemma has me a little stressed. The used market is stupid expensive. So buying anything as just a toy hauler seems silly.

Not really sure the 2022 Tundra rating increase going to cut it either.

    Fudge....

Let's say Toyota is realistically able to increase payload by about 400 pounds. So your typical crewmax model that is 1,200 now, would be 1,600. That would give you 800-900 in tongue weight for the boat, and you would have about 700 left for you and your family. Should be able to make that work no problem without going 3/4 ton.

Might be a little hard right now, but tongue weight on boats usually isn't that bad. 10% for boat, compared to 15% for travel trailer as example.

Unless the 2022 tundra has an aluminum body, the payload is gonna be the same as current

Spy shots are showing 6 lug wheel nut pattern will be coming , that usually means higher payload , by how much ? No one will know unit we can see actual full production trucks

Love it so far. I’m right at 7k miles on it. The power is incredible and the unloaded ride is about the same as my tundra with add a leafs and stiffer shocks front/rear. But the loaded ride is 100% better. I also really like that I was able to get the technology package (power folding mirrors, surround Veiw camera, blind spot, cross traffic and front and rear parking sensors)and night edition package but still get cloth seats with a bench up front. I do still worry about reliability but there are a lot of people who have these trucks with 0 issues so we’ll see. Here is a pictures of the reason I bought it. Loads like this use to be the exception and I could use one of my service trucks, now I’m doing this a few times a month so I upgraded. I also am getting like 20mpg and diesel is cheaper than gas here in CA which is just an added bonus.

If you look close you can still see one of my tundras in the back, so I haven’t 100% gone to the dark side.

Good man. That just happened to a friend with 23K miles on their 2019 Ram. Thankfully Ram covered it. 15K in repairs.

Yeah I was set on a gmc at the beginning of the last year even though I liked the rams better because the cp4 was a bigger issue than the front suspension on the gmc. It’s a lot easier to beef up the front suspension than it is to replace a fuel pump on these trucks. When it was confirmed they went to the updated cp3 it was back at the top of the list.

Out in Moab this weekend averaged 10-11 mpg from East Denver and trans temps stayed nice and low, really happy I made the switch. Hope everyone is having a good weekend 20210626_150329.jpg 20210626_150152.jpg 20210626_173300.jpg 20210626_173226.jpg

Looks like I'll be in the market for either a Ram or Chevy in 1-2 yrs. Kinda annoying I didn't realize this and buy the correct truck last Nov.

    Leaning towards a V8 Ram 2500 Larriat with a 3k payload.

I realized the limitations when I started to get back into camping with my family.

when i bought my tundra back in 19’, i told myself and wife We will buy the tundra for its notorious reliability and quality and full awareness that well jusy rent a trailer within its capabilities or borrow dads 2500hd duramax.

fast forward, renting a trailer is
Expensive and annoying. Borrowing dads 2500hd is a hassle also.

I settled to keep my tundra and bought a used 2500 suburban.

hind sight i probably should of sold tundra for a premium put some equity in my pocket and bought a new 2500 before 2021.

Similar boat here, I love the Tundra but it'd be nice to have a toy hauler or similar in the future. The one ton diesels don't turn me on very much, they cost an absolute fortune and getting something that at 100k is considered long in the tooth doesn't help justify the high price tag--and really I only need something that big for long trips or towing multiple toys. So on that note, I've been looking at toter homes. For less than the price of a new one ton, you can have something that could tow the one ton and a handful of other vehicles behind it, be able to load a vehicle on the flat deck, and cruise 500 miles with a shower and cooking area in the back. I'm thinking keep the Tundra for normal hauling and having fun, and then get the toter as a big trip vehicle and it's essentially a huge diesel and a toy hauler combined into one vehicle. To the general audience of this thread, any thoughts or reasons you didn't do the same?

This one in Denver is $59k and a 2005:

itll be a whole other league! Parking will need to be semi planned,
Maintenance cost will be significant, possibly need air
Brake endorsement, along with higher price insurance. In addition they aint that
Fun to drive and your spouse would be intimidated to drive it?

Shit I didn't think it was that bad for $60k, a little bumper damage and non working AC, could be worse :D I figure throw the ham/buggy on the back for small trips, hook up the trailer when I need both. Not many options to tow two vehicles plus have living quarters, I thought it made sense lol.
