I am looking at buying a 2nd gen. tundra and am reading about a lot of bed rust problems. Is this prevalent on all 2nd and 3rd gen trucks or did Toyota fix the problem? And do the cabs rust out from underneath also?

Rust issues in beds are often related to the plastic shell bedliners, holding moisture. Inspect under a liner if one exists. Sometimes the rust is combined with frame rust more prevalent in northern states where the roads are salted. Under carriage inspection highly recommended.
Not aware of any cab rusting issues

Edit: No bed rust on our 2007

I have a 2012 RC long bed with a cap which I've had on it since new, so don't know if this helps. I also had the bed Line-X coated when new. I've had zero issues with bed rust. I was just underneath the bed last week and I see very light surface rust in a few minor areas but nothing that worries me. I do have some rust staining along the inside bottom lip of the tailgate along the weld line but no rust through or anything close to it. I live near Lake Erie in the snow belt so I get plenty exposure to road salt/brine. I do wash my truck about once a month through the winter and I have three or four coats of Insulator wax on it by the end of each September.
