So sitting here sipping a beer, I thought I would go over the install for you guys and do a “recap” to prepare yourselves for the install.

*disclaimer* if you choose to follow my write up as an “install guide” that is your choice. I assume no liability, I am showing you how I did mine*

I removed my factory bumper cover, inner fender liners and impact bar.

my first problem, bumper was hitting my installed RCI skid plate. I placed a jack stand to support it. Removed the front two bolts and middle three to allow it to hang down a couple inches.

problem #2, my mounting holes for the bumper were off. I took some quick measurements and they were about an 1/8” off. So I used a die grinder and some cheap harbor freight bits to open the holes slowly and evenly. Took forever. But I would rather take the minimal amount at a time.

Problem #3, once the holes were lined up. Bumper would not sit back. Saw there was a tab hitting and rubbing a hard AC line. Nothing a flap disc and grinder couldn’t fix, easy but annoying

    Line in question
    [IMG]

Bumper showing wear so I knew where to grind

    After

Problem #4. This one I felt was the biggest “oversight” by reszfab in the design. The first problems could have all been caused by misaligned jig or warp causing a small shift in the specs. But this just feels like they missed it. Maybe not all tundras have a trans cooler. Mine does and it does not allow the bumper to be seated at all.

I had to unbolt it from the radiator support. Which allowed the bumper to be installed and pushed the trans cooler back. Once the bumper was in, I was able to re install one of the bolts that held it to the radiator support. The bolt on the driver side

With those issues cleared. The bumper can now be installed fully

I had to get longer bolts and spacers to reinstall the RCI skid plate so it would clear the bumper.

Bumper looks clean, sorry for the troubles on the install. A fly on the wall here with a little bit of advice... take it or leave it.

you may want to give yourself a little more clearance between your bumper and the plastic fascia with the welting on it. In my experience you will rub through your powdercoating and cause premature rust. My demello rubbed through with just the plastic grill and I had to get it recoated.

bumper looks great and kudos to you on the install!

thank you! Also thank you for the advice. I didn’t even think about the rubber trim edge being able to wear through powder coating. I will take something (I’m thinking like a popsicle stick) as a gapping tool

Looks great Jwood. Really appreciate the write up. Everything with the custom sequoia piece worked out as well?

for the most part yes. If I we’re to change anything, I would have researched the bumper parts before and realized I needed the support before hand.

maybe I would have made the cut 1/8” or 1/16” above the body line to allow for the rubber edge trim so it would not have the possibility of rubbing the powder coating as stated above.

I also would not have dropped it (it fell from where I was letting it cure) causing scratches lol

I am curious to see how a factory tundra two piece bumper fits with the reszfab bumper. So hopefully soon a member here will do it

curious now if you plan on eventually adding the support or if you’ll just leave it as is? In my eyes, based on your write up, once the RESZFab bumper is on I’d never go through the trouble to take it off again lol. I’ve got a two piece bumper, but (I think) I’m next in line for the 3rd round of shipments.

Support for the upper sequoia part?

It’s held solid at oem mounting points. There are plastic push pins along the top and the two screws at the fenders. Plus the support that is coming soon. It also snaps in at the fenders.

I have no reserves at how it mounts
It mounts like any other upper valance would

Sorry guys, haven't looked at the forum in a couple days.
Sorry for your troubles Jwood, but thanks for the write up. I think my truck has the trans cooler so I might need to hit you up further on that if you don't mind... pics are a little zoomed in for me right now, but maybe it will make more sense once I get my old one off.

Mine has the two piece factory bumper.

I have NOT received any ship notice that I'm aware of to date. Has anyone else?

When I emailed them and got a response on this past Friday I was told that they will be shipping the next 2 bumpers out today and this afternoon we should be recieving our shipping notifications. These 2 bumpers they are talking about should be mine and yours. I have not gotten my shipping info as of yet

Just this second I received a note saying the order is processed and a "central transport BOL" number, which I assume is a tracking number of some sort. If so, it looks like mine is on the way.

I did as well and I received an email from Resz stating that the freight company is scheduled to pick up our bumpers tomorrow afternoon and then the tracking will be updated.
I did send an email back asking for our 5% back since we ended up selling more than 5 bumper so we will see what they end up saying about us getting that back.

looks good. I would leave a gap between bumper and valance to allow for flex.

Yeah. It’s not sitting tightly on the bumper but I’ll gap it a little more

yeah you can hit me up anytime. Everything will become clear as soon as you dive in. My install post should just give you a heads in on my worst case scenarios.

as far as the transcooler, which by the way I cannot confirm or deny that it is a trans cooler because my limited google research does not show this as a trans cooler is circled below

Damn! No wonder I couldn’t find it lol.

so that still raises the question, do all tundras have them in the same place? I wonder if reszfab used a truck that did not have one. Because this still looked like a huge oversight and should have included a spacer or relocation bracket

Surely every truck has to have that then... seems like it should clear.
Anyhow... assuming I can get it on, I'll just be happy to finally have it. If it takes a little drilling/grinding... It will still do what I want and it's a truck, not a Porsche...

i agree, mine did not clear. Once I unbolted it from the radiator/core support. The bumper fully seated. Once the bumper was installed you can see the power steering cooler pushed back and the bolt hole did not line up. Definitely a clearance issue.

And I couldn’t agree more about treating the truck like a truck. But I know some people might expect a true plug and play type install.

im ok with putting in the work. It was long and difficult but I’m glad to be the guinea pig

Well I just recieved my bumper from resz and it seems as though my s2 mounts are too high as we. Going to use my drill press and see what I can do with them. Pretty much need to do the same thing as @Jwood562 when it comes to modifying the bracket. The look and finish of the bumper look great and my led bar fits snug right in there

Did your tracking info ever update?
So far mine doesn't say anything and I'm not sure how to determine where I need to go to pick it up..
EDIT: I didn't see that you have to switch the number type on their tracking page. Looks like it is in transit with an ETA of Friday.

It would have been a 5ish hour drive for me but when they did the free shipping I jumped all over it. I was very surprised when I checked my tracking info that it was in Detroit last night at midnight, then grand rapids at 930 this morning. I modified the brackets for the s2's just like @Jwood562 did. I will be waking up early and putting it on tomorrow since I have the day off
