285-75-18 Rubber Options

Hey gang,

Looking for a mid-aggressive tread tire for a set of 285-75-18s. I don't need anything too meaty as I do a fair amount of highway driving, yet I'm not looking for rollerblade wheels either...

The two options that blow my skirt up so far are the Toyo Open Country A/T IIs & the Nitto Terra Grappler G2s, in that order.

What other decent options come in this size? Coming up from a Tacoma in a 16" rim where I ran 285-75-16, I'm surprised at the limited AT options in a 285-75-18 for the Tundra.

What do you fellas run? Would I be better off running a 33" or 35"?

Yessah, that's all I used to run on the Tacoma, but they don't appear to come in a 285-75-18.

 

Hmmm. That is a shame. I love these tires and like you it is all that I have ran.

 

Looks like BFG has those in the M/T...

 

A little more rubber then what I need. I might have to bump to a 35-12.5-18 to bet a better selection.

 

If I remember correctly, Toyo RT's come in that size. And I just found out there's a 285/75R18 in that size as well. If they were available when I was looking I'd of likely went with those.

That size isn't quite as common as the 295/70/18, so not as many choices. I think it's becoming more popular though, but you may check out the 295's.

What size lift/level are you running or plan on running? If you drop down to a 33, 275/70/18 are widely available in almost every tire, plus much cheaper.

 

Running a 3" up front and 2" out back. The truck came with 285/65/18 (~33") Falken Wildpeak A/T 3Ws, which are great tires, they just look way too small to me and don't fill up the wheel well.

 

Looks like a 325-65-18 is also a decent option. A lot more options in this size. Only thing is it's looking like the 325-65-18s are ~1.5" wider and on a stock wheel w/ no offset, I imagine there would need to be some trimming due to rubbing...

 

I know one guy who’s tried to fit those on a 3/1 and they wound up rubbing the frame pretty seriously, even with aftermarket wheels.

Likely lean to the original 285/75/18s or even 295/70/18 in that case then...

 

Yea I would go with those two sizes you mentioned above. I might lean towards the 295's, those are a little shorter than those 285/75's.

I think the 295s might be the winner just do to the greater selection in that size.

Cooper AT3's are offered in that size. I have run them on various vehicles and they have been great. I am currently running Ridge Grapplers this is my second set, no complaints however next go around I will probably go back to the Cooper AT3's.

 

I ended up rolling with 285/75 R18 Nitto Terra Grappler G2s. I have about 15k miles on them and they seem to be wearing WAY better them any BFG KO2s or General Grabbers I have ever ran on any vehicle before.

I'm a happy camper.

 

I’m looking into this tire size as well can you post a few pics of your TGs? The duratrac in that size is pretty interesting as well.

 

This is my first winter running the Duratrac in 285/75 and they’ve performed well.

Edit: I don’t know if winter is an issue for you or not, but they’ve done well as an all-around tire.

6112 at 2.5 up front, 5100/toytec shackle at 1” in the back, stock ucas, no bmc.

 

Hey RangerBP- I like the look of those tires. Do you think I could get away with those on 6112's @ 1.9"?

 

This site has been useful for a number of tire/wheel-related questions. Here's what they have in your size:

 

I’m no expert, but I think you may be able to fit it, but it’d be really snug if it fits.

I’ll tell you that they fill up the wheel well at 2.5”. The biggest potential for rub is with a stock front bumper. It looks like you have an aftermarket, so you should clear there. They’re big tires - 35.1” x 11.2”. Especially if you off-road, the extra .6” would give you room for it to articulate a bit more.

Sorry I’m not helpful in being able to give a definitive answer. There are a handful of active members here running these. It may be worth looking to see what height they’re running.
