    image.jpg image.jpg BACKGROUND:
I am not much of a forum guy and pretty newb when it comes to the truck game, just a normal guy that bought one pretty amazing truck! I've had my PRO since June and like everyone else I had the itch to slap new tires on this bad boy.
After hours of googling and lurking on this website (a lot of guys here know their stuff), I came to the conclusion that their is basically zero people running the elusive 285/70/R18. I know the majority consensus is 295/70/R18 which are beautiful tires or 275/70/R18 that don't want to risks of running larger tires. With 295's being a 50/50 split on having to mod and 275's being small, I came to the conclusion that 285/70/R18 had to be that sweet spot between the two.
Even though I couldn't find anyone with any recent experience or current pics, I decided to pull the trigger anyways. I'm running the 285/70/R18 Toyo Open Country MT's on stock TRD rims.
I normally don't spend much time on forums but I felt obligated to share my pics and experiences with this size for future people out there who had the same questions I did when I was doing my research. They look freaking awesome, and have zero rub even with the front mud flap on but I still removed it for peace of mind. I hope this helps anyone who is curious on the 285/70/R18 when trying to decide on upgrading new tires. Keep in mind I'm not an expert so if anyone has questions on the technical stuff I may not be as helpful.
FYI: my Delorean was destroyed by a train :anonymous: (ha ha).:mudding:

You are the man! I have the same truck, with the same concerns and was doing research forever about this size tire! Thanks so much for posting the truck looks killer! I'm hoping for the same result with the Toyo Open Country 285/70/18 RT! Mahalo from Hawaii! \nnn/

I was thinking that size tire. Too bad they don't have much selection on that size though. Looks good!!!

I am looking for the SAME SIZE of tires but it seems like nobody wants to make it.

How is the ride? Noise? Comparing that to the R/T is it much more tougher?

@GoHuskers I agree the selections suck. BFGs would of been nice too but way too over priced for my blood. They are a bit loud ( it's expected with some nobby MTs). My only experience is with some Nitto Trail Grapplers on my old Tacoma which were a little less in the noise dept, but I did run closer to stock size so that could of helped. All in all its a give and take for some good lookin tires :woot:

@Marty McFly - truck looks great! I am in the same boat. I currently have 275/70R18 tires and wouldn't mind something just a little bigger, but don't know that I want to go up to 295's. I have often thought that 285/70/R18 would be a perfect size for what I want, but options are pretty limited. Did you find any other brands/tires in the 285/70R18 size? How do those Toyo MT tires ride? Noise?

@harrisdoggy- BFGs, Nitto EXO, and Toyos were the basic. Noise is minimal but expected.

    Some recent experience:
Handled well in the rain(well for SoCal standards)
A little bit of loss in power (I do miss hitting about 100mph on the stock Michelin)
A loss of about .7 mpg on the speedo calculator
Did about 3 really tight u turns with zero rub

Good looking Pro. Thank you for posting this. I neither have a Pro, nor 18" tires; however, it's because of posts like this that allow people in the future to make educated decisions based on others' experience. You did the research and could not find anything about this tire size, and you pulled the trigger based on experience of others with 275s and 295s. Now, people can consider 285s as well. This is what makes a forum useful.

@louscrw - thanks. I really couldn't in good conscious not post this one particular mod. It is very unexplored and felt that a lot of people were asking the same questions I had. On the downside this forum is getting addicting. Maybe I should get back in my time machine and stop myself in the past lol

And thanks to all the members who have commented on my post.

Yeah, which is part of the dilemma - that size seems perfect but is only available in an MT tire. Sounds like the ride on the Toyo is pretty good though, for an MT tire.

Anyone have any experience with the Nitto Exo Grappler AWT tire? That also comes in a 285/70R18. Wonder how it compares in ride and overall performance to the Toyo Open Country MT, seems to sell for a little less.......
