That is a good idea. I’ve been running a bike lock through the bear lock. Hopefully it’s enough to deter someone

I bought a Lifetime cooler once, while cruising Wal*Mart for last minute propane and Damn!, it is impressive. As an example, used it for T2S, did the whole trip (including 6.5 hours drive through then desert each way, cooler in the truck bed) and the left over ice lasted 4 more days once we got home. Then super cold water for 2 more days.

Compared to Yeti it's super inexpensive. I also love that the walls are very square (straight sides) so it's easy to pack up next to it without waste space.

But... will it withstand bears if you ever camp or hunt in Brown bear land??? Some of us do.

Thanks for the heads-up. I got an email earlier today from REI, and ordered a small YETI 20, even though I have and like an RTIC45 which was quite a bit less. Both great coolers, and I couldn't pass up the sale; like they are never on sale.

    I think I'm good to go:IMG_7362.jpg
From what I can tell, the fasteners look and work like Yeti's but even beefier. Plus it's got a cool sticker that says it's 'Grizzly Bear certified'. I'm excited to test it. :)

    That's a super nice setup.
Unfortunately had mine stolen from the bed of my truck. It was locked with two pad locks and two cables. The bastards drilled the locks and cut the cables. I was actually more worried about them damaging my truck. Was surprised I didnt find even a scratch. These guys definitely knew what they were doing.

I'll park next to @Marty McFly. If mine isn't good, I can lure bears away from his Yeti and baby.... But if mine is better... :eek2:!!

Anyway, how come you don't trust the 'Grizzly Bear certified' sticker? It even has an official verification number.

Those handles are fancier looking but that's not what stops a bear. First..a lock to make it not easy for a bear to get into it. No lock....bear says "thank you". It's the toughness of the outer shell. Big bears have huge problems getting to your goodies inside with a Yeti. Keep in mind that many members here do in fact live in bear country where bears are quite ubiquitous and at this time of year are coming out of a long winter hibernation and are quite hungry. Sows are birthing cubs. Sows need to eat natural food. Don't make it easy for "her" by providing a camp situation you don't want to deal with.

Mostly I'm playing with you guys 'cause it's fun to argue. But this one is as thick-walled as a Yeti, has the same latches, and locking points (I just don't have one on it, in the pic I snapped outside my back door). And I'm not kidding about the Grizzly bear certification either. I urge anyone to seriously research and compare before spending 3x as much on a Yeti just because it's a Yeti.

Disclaimer: Yes, yes, your Yeti is very cool. Even cool enough for hipsters!

Of course! I'm doing the same thing Sunny. If you ever go to Alaska by chance and see what the locals use in real big bear country with no shortage of hungry bears...guess what brand they use.....

The bear sticker is only good to me if there is a test in the wild with a hungry Grizzy going at it on video. Some cooler mfrs will use some old lame ass domesticated bears to kick their coolers around and call it bear "proof" and get the seal approved.

Actually at my line of work Pelican cases are the gold standard to use when transporting and shipping test equipment that can be worth over $100K. No rope handles and rubber latches. Quite the opposite. Quite expensive for good reason....

Haha. That’s exactly what I am saying...if you DON’T want rope handles and rubber latches (ie. Yeti) get a Pelican cooler. I have quite a few Pelican cases myself (including a Peli cooler). Mostly to haul camera equipment and I even have a Pelican 1400 as a travel humidor.

If you don't have the rope handles, how would hang yourself when your insta-twitter-book picture you uploaded didn't get "like, 100 likes...". I rest my case.. ::insert mic drop here::

This was not serious... We all know hipsters don't know how to tie knots.

Pelicans are super nice though. See my original post for my real feelings.
