A lot of ICE vehicles got stuck in this is your last version because we need to fund EVs. Now that ICE appears to have a longer market life hopefully that changes for all makers. The best approach is same vehicle with multiple powertrain options whether ICE, hybrid or EV. Making a unique vehicle for each powertrain to compete against each other is regressive. Let all the powertrains chip in on the vehicle dev costs to keep everything from being 6 figures next decade

8 years with a refresh in the middle is good. After that your product starts looking old

Cannot believe guys are complaining about a refresh, the platform is like 4 years old. Give it another 10 and we can talk when real tech and advancements come.

Guess I don’t care about keeping up with the jones since I sold an 06 Cummins to get the safety of the new trucks. I will get another one 20 years when it’s time to upgrade again.

2nd gen Tundra took 7 years for a refresh. Then 8 more years after that we got the 3rd gen. 2028 is 6 years so I'd say you're going to be disappointed. Tundra 3rd gen will probably be around for 12-14 years. (Also, I am not affiliated with Toyota and just guessing based on the previous models.)

I think it's technically possible to splice out just the software changes that don't depend on hardware changes, but from a financial standpoint, I don't think they'll do it just because it's not really going to gain them anything. You already bought a truck and if you want 3.0, they'd rather you buy a new truck.

Came from a 2nd gen Taco, but the choice was easy because I needed more cab space and there's no-gen Taco that's gonna give me that. It actually seems like the 4th gens have LESS cab space.

Toyota did not release any pictures of the new Limited interior, nor did they include any pictures of the changes to the PLT/1794 interior.

Doesn’t die on my Land Cruiser when I open the door. I can also adjust climate control and a few other options with the app. This should be a no brainer for Toyota regarding the Tundra.

I don't think it's about tech advancements or keeping up with the Jones. It's about fixing existing stuff that doesn't work very well. A stereo that's weak at best. Lousy lane tracking and a list of items that have been beat to death by Gen3 owners. Every time I use the cruise with over boosted rear brakes it's just asinine it's so bad. So again, not advancements, fixing what is there.

On stereo, I don't understand how different connections, the volume is louder than other. At first I used the andriod auto to connect, youtube which was not loud as my magicbox is with YouTube. My wife iphone connect to my truck one day with Pandora. At volumn 14, that was my volumn at 34 using the Magicbox YouTube. Dam stereo.

I agree with fixing what is existing. I really can live with all of it but the remote start just really gets on my nerves. They shouldn't have even included it with it killing the engine as soon as you open the door.

Nothing wrong. It works like everyone else's. I just don't appreciate it killing the engine when you open the door. I don't want to have to cycle the engine more times than I can help it back to back like that. It also disables my start/stop scAmazon dongle doing that. Just first world problems.

3rd gen Tundra came out before the new LCs and 4th gen Tacomas…both of which I think have TSS 3.0. Again, it’s not that they CAN’T do it…it’s that they won’t financially gain from retrofitting it into 22-27 trucks. It’ll come with the refresh if it comes at all before the 4th gen.

The hardware is already present for them to allow the truck not to shut off when opening the door. It is a 100% software/server side change. There have been times that owners reported seeing certain options in the Toyota App when server side changes were being made. Unsure as to why Toyota hasn't done that, other than to make it a selling feature for the mid-cycle refresh. Oh and the engine recall took a lot of time and effort.

Do you think they might integrate the infotainment into the dash for the update? That's the biggest sin outside of engine issues to me automakers are currently making. Toyota is a huge lover of the pop-up dash for some reason and I am hoping this dies off asap.

I might have read this wrong, but are you saying our 3rd gens already have the hardware and it's just a software/server change at this point? If that's the case then I'm hopeful for it happening one day after mid-cycle refresh. Once all the selling has been milked from that, hopefully they would release it for the first cycle 3rd gens.

Toyota likes the high sitting screen position. As do I. I can see Maps with the next turn out of my peripheral vision with almost no head movement. Which is great when using nav in a city where you corkscrew through with 10 quick turns in a few miles.

The landscape screens like Ram are the worst. You gotta look down a lot since it's integrated in the dash vertically. It's a huge screen but not really useful space

Maybe they'll make HUD's standard as that's really the safest way to have a screen in your car. The higher quality ones that work with any type of sun glasses are very nice. Then they could lower the screen into the dash, since you know, people are supposed to look at the road when they drive. It would be a win-win for safety and convience (can't spell this word right for the life of me).

That might add another 500 to the base car though, and would have pushback from others. Maybe there is no such thing as a win-win when trying to please hundreds of thousands of people:rolleyes:

Yes, but it isn't just the remote start behavior. TSS 3.0 is supposed to improve lane tracing to include managing curves better. Maybe there are some hardware differences in that function, like higher resolution or faster responding stepper motors? Hard to know. I don't totally buy that Toyota would sit on a software update to spur sales of new trucks, because new trucks with that functionality are not availabe nor will they be for at least 2 more years. Makes no sense.

    HUD gives limited information.

I drive thru neighborhoods in Atlanta to various locations. Turn right in 500.ft does not really help when there are 3 right turns in a row in a short distance coming up. Then I am reading street signs covered by trees or don't exist which is eyes off the road for a long time. Visually I can get take the 2nd right be in the best lane ready for a next quick left from the map quickly if it's on my eye line.

I don't have HUD in my truck but have it in my wife's vehicle. I am pretty much 100% accurate in the truck with Maps. Running off HUD and a smaller, lower screen in wife's vehicle I have an error rate of taking the wrong turn

Sitting on “features” for future releases wouldn’t surprise me at all. I’m not sure how much of a factor software vs hardware is.

My question for a refresh, is would they skip SS 3.0 and move to 4.0?
