I’ve only ever seen it promoted as a penetrant. Has lubricant and solvent properties. Intended to help get things “unstuck”.

I use kroil. Add an actual lubricant once things are cleaned and moving freely.

Not trying to be a dick....
Maybe in marketing/advertisements, but on the WD-40 website FAQ, they clearly state, it IS a lubricant.

I've found it to be a much better solvent than a lubricant.

I will say that because it is such a terrible lubricant, they should get rid of that statement in their FAQ.
It's like saying water is a lubricant. Yeah.... technically. Another really poor one.

    *EDIT* Or 0W-20 motor oil!!:crapstorm:

Huh, everything I've seen just said "lubricating properties" so I stand corrected.

Who? You need to either tag the person you are talking to or use the quote function. Otherwise it doesn't let anyone know who you are speaking to. It's just noise.

My power tailgate is a mess. Had it “fixed” and a week later same issue - it does not work consistently. I asked the mechanic to unhook the system and he said they can’t?!?!
Toyota reached out to me regarding the issue and I’m waiting to hear back…….aside from the headliner also having to be replaced. Never had issues like this with my past 3 Tundras. Disappointed to say the least.

I hate to say it, but the auto up/down tailgate might be the dumbest "feature" yet.

I recently took the inside panel off my non-auto tailgate because the latch felt like it was getting a little sticky. I honestly could not believe how much dust was inside. Whatever you do, use dry lubrication on the latching mechanisms, if you spend any time on dusty dirt roads, like I do.

I can't imagine what kind of toll all that dust would have on an auto tailgate.

I do drive unimproved roads often. My auto open started getting stubborn and I kind of wrote it off because of my tonneau cover. But after reading through this thread, I cleaned and lubed the latches, and it has been flawless since. A little over a week I think. I think this just needs to be considered a maintenance item along with oil changes.

It may not fix everyone’s issues, but I’m all about minimizing my personal frustration.

Did you take the inside panel off to lubricate the latches?

If you spend time on dusty roads, I highly recommend you mix in removing the inside panel and cleaning out the inside of your tailgate to your normal maintenance schedule. It's ridiculous how filthy it gets in there.
