You might want a filter "socket" for it- kind of a pain to use an oldschool filter wrench on it- not much clearance or need long arms to swing it to loosen it.

Also have a bit of hose to drain out the lil dribble cup- fair ammount of oil runs out of it.

The sheet shows only 3 24 failures so far (1 hybrid). still low in milage and not hitting that average just yet but the 24s that do let go went very very early.

I saw an article on the GM 5.3 engine contamination replacement recall. It cited 20 hours of shop labor to do the full replacement. Sure that is a book estimate but fractional of the hours it takes for build a bear engine from a short block approach

Get a Fumoto valve for oil changes. So easy and no mess. Plus, easier to collect for oil samples with one.

The recall is an engine recall, not generic vehicle. Toyota has identified a subset of engines they project to have RUD, not all engines are in this subset therefore your VIN is not listed.

I do 7500. Funny how when companies started doing free maintenance the oil changes miraculously were ok to go to 10k all of a sudden

The only reason they do this is to beg and plead the folks with leased vehicles to change their oil … they will even make it free a couple times.

Imagine how many lease returns Toyota would get back that had 0 or 1 oil change in 3/36. Who wants to CPO and warranty that?!

got a 2024, going to change my oil at 1000km, then again at 5000km, then every other 5000km after. I've always been religious with oil changes, very small price to pay to have clean oil in an expensive rig. Might seem overkill, but oil gets dirty nonetheless even if the viscosity is still ok.

Can someone verify the metal TRD OR skid plate won’t interfere with the fumoto? It looks like it’s hangs lower than a plug.

No clearance issues at all. Yes, it hangs lower than the OEM drain plug, but there's plenty of room before hitting anything, including the TRD skid plate.
I have the extended length one with the longer nipple. Still plenty of room.

Has Toyota announced if they will give a long warranty on the replacement motors or just stick with the standard one?

I haven't heard anything about an extended warranty. That being said, I'm in a 2024 hybrid, which hybrids weren't included in the recall for some unknown stupid reason, nor 2024s before the part number change, so it makes me nervous that I could have a crap engine. I'll just drive it and enjoy it and buy a nice, fat extended warranty before my factory warranty is up. At least I'll get something out of it should the engine crap out.

I bought a new 24 a week ago. I planned first oil change at 1000-1500 miles, then 5k, then 10k. I'll do.it myself until the 10k free service.

You should be able to have the truck do that automatically. Every time I start my truck the MPG in the cluster starts calculating from zero. The MPG in the JBL does a running average tank to tank to tank unless you manually reset it.

I did mine at 2000 miles, REALLY easy. No mess no fuss. Bought 10 OEM filters from a dealer in South Carolina for 55$ delivered and I'm good for awhile.
