I get your frustration LA, but they have been around longer than JB4 and aren't going anywhere, I think this is a case where they jumped the gun and tried to get to market too fast...I have Stillen parts in my 1991 300zx that are the best available. I'm certain they will make good on this but to each their own

JB4, Stillen, and Toyota are all national and international companies that have interest in "keeping the customer satisfied". People move on and others fill the gap. Prototypes are sometimes rushed into production...the old saying never buy the 1st year model if you can help it. Folks are still buying new Tundra's despite the issues...have a little patience and faith here... it will all come out in the wash. I'm not beating this dead horse anymore, bitching gets annoying after awhile...I'm more interested in enjoying what a great truck the 3rd gen Tundra is!

I wonder why though.. I'm curious if that's because it's only being released with that year or if there is actually something different with the ECU that prevents the calibration on the previous years. The basic air intakes and aftermarket are physically the same across the years. I can't see them mapping the ECU differently and only referencing vague terms like "late" or "midyear" builds. Plus the tech document just says "general availability" with MY24&up and only conflict is SR grade. Nothing about when, mid-year or late builds. Not sure how you guys got that... I'll call up my dealer and see if they have info as to why this won't work on a 2022 or try to weasel into the calibration. Lol

I hope you guys know the air intake kit that requires the calibration is between $700-850 (depending on the dealer). The 3400 is the sticker price for the package (my assumption). I was planning to get s&b intakes but I figured this would be a good option for $300 more, for the calibration and TRD tax lol

Stillen has not been in the piggyback tuner market as long as BMS (JB4) nor are they at the same market share as BMS. They couldnt get an intake kit right and theyve been in that market for decades, not going to risk it with their first ever piggyback module.

They fumbled the r&d, the launch, and the subsequent customer service and support. All 3 key components of a product release, failed.

they buy the piggyback from another vendor and relabel it...BMS is a good company too but believe me none of them walk on water...either one is going to kill the Toyota tune because Toyota has to warranty it...so the choice is JB4, Stillen, VR, whatever piggyback for $6-800 or pay the Toyota tax on eligible vehicles to go factory...none of the intakes are going to boost power in a measureable way without supporting mods like proper tune and exhaust...but they will make cool noises and for most guys that's all we want...any Captain Obvious can see Stillen screwed the pooch here on the intakes but what about Boeing??? life is too short friends...

I have the AFE boxes and hot charge tubes and didn't have to get a recalibration. Perhaps I should but I'm not throwing error codes.

Thanks man. My understanding is no aftermarket intakes require the calibration but I think thats where the added power comes from with the TRD package- combo of the intake and calibration. Waiting for my next service appointment to ask the local dealer about it.

My understanding is that most of the power is from the reprogramming or whatever you want to call it. Then the intake and exhaust would supplement that. There's been a lot of discussion around whether or not intake & exhaust help without a reprogram.

total increase is 32hp at the crank maybe 25 at the wheels for $3400 at least 20 is from the updated calibration...I see near zero value here when JP4, VR, and Stillen offer 80hp AT THE WHEELS YOU WILL FEEL THAT!!!

This is true but why bother for a barely noticeable tune that requires premium all the time? Us piggyback peeps can go to stock map with a button push or click in app and save $1 a gallon when not playing? Like Dinan with BMW you pay 10x bucks and get .5x power of aftermarket. TRD hasn't made a real power adder since the supercharger packages, but honestly, the stock engine is very strong as delivered.

I get that, I was just saying some people don’t want to mess around with aftermarket and warranty denial situations, for these guys this package is good 100% oem toyota

As someone that came from a Capstone and now the TRD Pro with the Performance Pack I can attest that the change feels significant. The torque being lower in the band puts it ALWAYS in the sweet spot. Up high it continues to pull. She is quite quick and I never thought that about my Capstone. My other cars have been M5, X5M, FPace SVR, and Defender 90 V8, and this one makes me giggle more just driving around town, between the turbos, the exhaust and the torque. Even last night screaming down the interstate windows down the turbos could still be heard when passing. My kids continually ask what is that sound.

That’s me. I want the OEM warranty plus if I decide to get extended warranty it will be covered but since I couldn’t get the option added at purchase of my truck I’m pretty sure it won’t be covered under the 3 year 36000 mile warranty and only a year. But I’m guessing on that

I would think the performance package would be covered through the end of your powertrain warranty, so if you get the 10yr 125K mile it should be through that duration. Does anyone know for sure?

If it is installed at the factory, port, or dealer, yes.

I sure wish my Jan. 2024 build was compatible...dammit!

Anyway, am I correct in assuming the JB4 unit handles air AND fuel mapping internally or does it just trick the truck's ECU into thinking there is less boost than actual so it ups both air AND fuel itself?

It tricks the ECU. It does have CAN-BUS feedback from what others have said.

All the piggybacks do essentially the same thing...take the signals from boost sensor and airflow, make their adjustments and fool the ecu into thinking everything is in spec, adding boost and fuel in increments as you progress in maps. Stillen and VR are just 2 underhood connectors that's it...map 0 is stock and each map adds fuel and boost incrementally up to 7. When your not "on it" the truck drives as if nothing has changed and on 0 you can run 87 gas if you want, just make sure you are all 91 or 93 depending on your gas availability. I believe what members are saying regarding being able to feel a little more low end...believe me anything over map 4 on 93 and the 1 wheel peel is just a pedal mash away in Tow Haul. I have a dragy and recorded the progression and it's real. Love to see a JB4 or TRD regular Iforce before and after 0-60 and 30-100 real world not butt dyno. I can tell you once it's moving this thing on 7 is an animal on 93 the eighth mile gains a lot and I did a lift off 1/4 mile right at 14 flat 100mph. Had to stop the dig starts as this truck was never meant for that and the tire started to wear...some guys are launching in 4 high but I'm not interested in blowing the transfer case.

this....oem maps handle the rest. They just report lower boost pressures so oem ecu can command more waste gate duty (Closes it) so it ups the boost. Fuel and timing is handled via oem maps. Theoretically, we should run into a wall where the ECU will not command more boost due to EGT and/or estimated hp/trq or boost limits. I've yet to throw an overboost code, so Im pretty sure these piggybacks are on the conservative side.

for $400 bucks no contest Stillen, people need to get their panties untwisted mo powa is mo powa, sound and the butt dyno are subjective 80 rwhp is more than "noticeable". FWIW Stillen has dropped the ball on this but sheesh they aren't a new company but an old company trying new things and the True Control is a relabeled VR tuner under license...

Does it offer any advantages over the JB4?
