Anyone have any opinions on driving impressions with the TRD performance package? Can’t find driving videos on it online. I’m noticing trucks on the lots with the $3400 package installed. Is it worth it?

Agreed I don’t like the exhaust tip either, but I put the TRD Pro tailpipe on, just factory stock center pipe currently. Not sure I would like the sound of an exhaust system on a V6. But I got the TRD CAI and calibration done and it’s fantastic!

 

So yes and no. Got it, haha. Maybe I’ll go test drive and find out.

 

I managed to get the CAI’s and have my truck recalibrated and now have the performance package. I paid $1300 total and later had an AWE exhaust installed. I would say if you’re buying it as a factory option, it’s worth it because the current discounts will offset it, but it’s on its own it’s not really worth $3400.

 

True and good way to put it. There’s no way I’d pay asking price on a truck. So I wouldn’t really be paying the $3400 after negotiating.

 

There’s a limited TRD OR with the performance package in my area that is a non hybrid. If I could get that below 60k I’d be good.

 

If you actually break it down, the bulk of the performance comes from intake and 99% the recalibration. Those are the cheapest parts, the single most expensive component is the exhaust, it’s literally $2k and doesn’t sound that great at all. I had it and got rid of it because of the drone.

 

Did you get the CAI and truck calibrated at the dealership?

 

I bought the CAI and brought it to the dealer and they installed and recalibrated the truck. This will only work with the TRD intakes, as the inlet diameter is larger than stock, unlike other CAI’s. This change in diameter will cause a CEL, hence the recalibration, the instructions for the TRD intakes outlines what software to upload to the truck which is the performance tune.

 

All I know about it is, it's awesome...
I wouldn't get the package without the Hybrid.. The decision to go Hybrid was also made about 2 seconds after driving it as well...
We all like what we like, but the last 2 cars the wife has had were turbo Honda's.. Leaving the dealer lot in the non hybrid Tundra.. to me felt like I was driving a big Honda, compared to the Hybrid responding like a Tesla.
It puts a smile on my face every day XD Hard to ask for more these days!
It also took me 8 months to get one, and I flew several states away to drive it back, so the confirmation bias could be enormous...

I admit that I also love the f*ck out of driving my hybrid with the performance tune. I was lucky enough to get it the alternative way, but honestly I spent just as much. $720 for the intakes, $280 for the calibration (tune) install, and $2800 for the Borla S-Type exhaust with carbon fiber tips. Love the shifting, the sound of the turbos and wastegates, the throttle response (also have an Ultimate 9). People complain about the price but it gives you a factory covered warranty and extra power. Think about it, if all the aftermarket intakes are not throwing codes with how sensitive this model is on engine codes, then what is it actually doing to help with performance? The TRD performance intakes will throw codes in less than 20 miles...I know from experience, as many other do as well.

 

I have it on my truck.

I also have a 23 Sequoia.

The hybrid Sequoia has much more pep than the standard Tundra with TRD Performance package.

The drone on the interstate of the exhaust is not pleasant as well, pretty annoying honestly.

I chose the non-hybrid version because the under seat storage was much more important to me than having the hybrid.

 

The sound of the air compressing and whirling around is addicting! The 45 speed limit is the only downside.

One thing I don't see mentioned places is just how the Hybrid changes that pedal to tire response and feel.
The Performance Tune turning the power on just slightly sooner really makes that Hybrid shine even more.
The transmission incorporates the power so well, the average drive is a better experience.

I plan on putting a few hundred thousand miles into the truck, no idea if I'll get to, but I'm going to try! So the cost over the life didn't seem like it was worth questioning, also on the 10y/120k.

Performance package came on my 2025 tundra TRD pro. The price is whatever but totally worth it in my opinion after putting 5k miles on the truck. Noticeably faster than stock pro when test driving. Covered under my extended warranty/125k miles. Turns my 37’s like a stock pro on 33’s thanks to the extra power. Extremely quiet in the cab after I had the dealer turn off the false exhaust sound that played through the speakers. Once that was off you can hear the sweet turbo spool. No drone sound, don’t really know it’s there inside until you stab the gas. Exhaust is perfect.

Will dealerships do the tune and intakes without the exhaust, Or will they not tune it without the exhaust? I am good with the trd pro stock exhaust, don't want the performance exhaust, even if its a few ponies.

 

Stands to reason, this engine is a lot more capable than the factory tune suggests. And I imagine there is plenty left on the table in terms of fuel supply (at least from the injectors).


Typically you'd start with the LPFP and go from there.

No. This is on STOP SALE and dealerships have been told to not install the tune unless it came that way from the factory.

 

I just talked to a guy at a dealership. Claimed to find nothing in his system. Now this is in Canada, but the dealer is in a large city. I am not convinced the part guy was very handy with his line of work. I am going to make a few more calls.
