I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Yep in another 13 years or so Toyota can release a 4th Gen Tundra that corrects the deficiencies of the 3rd Gen.

In the meantime the competition will be 2-3 generations ahead.

Approximately 7 seconds. The Tundra shut down all electric power on the IKE once they hit 50 mph during acceleration. It never assisted the remainder of the climb.

It appears to me that the Tacoma system is lifted straight out of the Tundra. The specs on the electric motor are identical and so is the battery.

Well that’s rather lame, especially when they sold the hybrid system as being “for towing not mpg” and now it turns out it’s not great for either one.

Its good for stop and go towing or initial acceleration. You would need a massive battery to get any kind of sustained power output. 48 hp(the electric motors output) is 35000 watts. That would drain the 1.87 kwh battery in 3 minutes assuming you went from 100% full to 0%, which they wouldnt allow. Really its probably only good for 1.5 minutes sustained.

But yeah, the iforce max is stupid in my eyes. The only reason that I like the Ford Powerboost is because of the 7200 watt generator system, which would be sweet for camping, but Toyota said no one wanted that.

A 2020 GX is basically a 2003+ 4Runner/GX. Literally the chassis barely changed at all, its just a new body and some updated outdated tech.

I'd have a hard time paying money for a brand new GX knowing what it is. It shouldnt cost $60-70k when my $42000 F150 is as nice or better in almost every way.

The GX very outdated. But I would still choose a 2023 GX over a F150 and would rather hook a trailer to haul big stuff around. The build quality and reliability on a GX is far superior than a F150; still built in Japan. Great off road capabilities. Carplay. Gas mileage is not horrible. It's also the last Toyota V8. I'd say 60k for a 2023 GX is actually a good price.

No its not. Valley cover leaks, secondary air injection pumps, rear main seals, transmissions and radiators springing leaks are a few of the "minor" issues with the GX. All of em are just as much of a PITA and just as costly to fix as any common issue with F150's.

As someone who has both and tows the same trailer with both, the GX is a far less versatile vehicle. My GX would go long before my F150 did. The GX's ground clearance is also hilariously low. Everything under the thing by a mile.

Beg to differ. I'm not talking about towing RV's and such. I have a tundra for that. I mean more for utility sake. I have a 2022 GX myself. I just wouldn't be able to trust anything with a ford badge on it. A GX will last much longer and will be less problematic than a f150. I personally don't care for fancy features which is why I chose the GX over all of the other midsize SUVs. Reliability and build quality are at the top of my list.

    Ok. i updated my post.

Point is you could get a pretty nice Tundra for GX money and still avoid the Ford badge.

I would probably still get a new Frontier because it has a V6. I don’t care for these small 4 cylinder turbos in a truck.

So obviously Toyota decided to let some actual truck engineers back into the lab and boot out the accountants who designed the Tundra. This new Tacoma is such a slap in the face of the embarrassment of the 3rd Gen Tundra. From the front end to the entire interior it literally makes the Tundra look like a first off test truck for the development of the latest Tacoma.

You might be right on the money. The Tundra, while being a solid offering, has never been the top seller in the way that the Tacoma has been. Perhaps they planned on continuing to fill the niche market of people who want a full sized Toyota while using it as an extended test bed for the Tacoma.

NA V6. 310 hp. Great 9 speed transmission. Built quite stout. Reasonably priced. Plenty of aftermarket support. I'm waiting to see the price range for the various trims on the new Taco.

I’ll bet a Limited Taco hybrid will be about $60K.

They were able leapfrog the competition with the Tundra back in 2007, so there’s always a chance! At least the new ones look good.

I'll admit the new Taco is very nice. I might actually look in to the Trailh
Toyota is not trying to take out the competition or even compete, they are focused on longevity while also keeping up with the latest tech. They focus on keeping their loyal customers happy. O remember how many people were made about the 2nd gen and 2.5 cause it didnty have rear lockers. maybe 2% of Tundra owners will use the lockers. Now it has lockers, no one seems to care.

80% of the Taco is based on the Tundra. But of course Toyota added some additional features to the Taco. But I believe they will release most of these features on the 25 or 26 Tundra more than likely
