I’m on the engine recall list and have been dreading this moment. I have just under 25k miles on it. Was driving tonight and check engine light started flashing, engine started shuttering and lost ability to accelerate.

Calling the dealer in the morning to see where we go from here.

So sorry to hear man. Still very possible it’s something else. (Simpler) Might get lucky. Were you accelerating to pass or climb on the fwy by chance? Did the engine sound/feel like it was coming appart?

It happened when I went to accelerate. The entire vehicle/engine started shaking. Pretty pissed about the situation. The only other issues I’ve had with the truck are the seat panels cracking and vibration from the dash upon acceleration. But it’s been a fight with the dealership for even those issues. The vibration issue still pending so I’m not looking forward to dealing with them about tonight’s issue even tho it’s under warranty.

Thx for responding. It’s the acceleration, usually passing 95% of the time and your description sounds like the bearing. Sorry man. Hope it does take too long and gets done correctly the first time.

Sorry to hear of the probable engine failure Chavito86. It's tough pill to swallow. If there is any silver lining to it at least your under the recall list. I have a 24 with build date of 1/24. Family loves the truck. It's a pleasure to drive but like others here I feel a constant cloud over my head hoping Toyota will extend the recall. Best of luck to you.

Sucks to hear this. Please keep us posted on the issue. As a 2023 owner myself, I would appreciate an update.

Shit show has started. Dealer states there is no loaners available and they won’t even be able to look at it until Thursday. “All their level 3 techs are out training”.

Calling corporate to see about the loaner in the meantime as it’s my only means of transportation.

The only way to push the Dealer to do the right thing. Truck for Truck while they have yours, hopefully.

UPDATE: went back and forth with Toyota Brand Engagement about getting a loaner. They ended up calling the dealer my vehicle is at and magically I was put on the loaner list. I’m second in line with no ETA as to when I’ll be able to get a vehicle so for now I have to get a rental on my own dime. They wouldn’t give me a clear answer as to whether they would reimburse me for a rental car.

Techs can’t look at my vehicle until Thursday. So, it’s just a waiting game for now…

I'm surprised Toyota doesn't make loaners easier to get. Especially on something that is going to be a warranty issue. Not everyone has a second vehicle lying around in case their primary vehicle goes belly up.

just updating…below are the codes truck had. Tech said he test drove it for 15 miles twice and it’s all good. No repair or reason as to why it happened. Picking up from dealer tomorrow.

Really have zero confidence in this vehicle and strongly considering getting rid of it.Screenshot 2024-10-11 at 2.37.53 PM.jpg

Exactly what I hoped for in post #2. You’re about the 3rd on here recently where it wasn’t a bearing at all. Glad it wasn’t that serious of an issue.

Id dump the truck and the dealer. They all have 30-40+ tundras on the lot here, it can't be much different where you are from what I have been seeing people post. Not like they can't give you one as a loaner.

Sell the truck on here for top dollar to one of the many "3rd gens are fine and toyota takes care of you even if it is worthless" guys.

it's like a commercial lawnmower, you should have a back up if you need it for work.

edit: I'm obviously trolling a little here. But I do not trust the new tundra yet.

Oh I get it, my 2017 Camry is my dependable back-up. I've been really satisfied with Haley Toyota here in Midlothian for service on my Toyota's and Honda's the family has owned as well. Except for the annoying "add-on" services they always recommend but for most of them I do the work myself. That way when I want to buy a bed mat or bed cover I can make the argument to my wife. "Look at all the money we have saved by me doing the work!"

I love my truck, every time I drive it I love it more. I do feel bad for those that have had issues but I realize that's just the world we live in. Any mass produced item is a hit or miss proposition. When I buy an appliance I read the reviews and if it has an 90% or higher of 4 and 5 stars I consider that pretty good. I'm old enough to remember the cars from the 60's. 70's, and 80's I've owned and ridden in that were complete junk. Everyone pines for the day with simple cars and few electronics but in reality if you got over 90,000 miles as the first owner on those old vehicles you were damn lucky! I still work on my vehicles for the most part. I can do basic mechanic stuff like brakes, fluid changes, air filters, spark plugs. etc. so I love the radar cruise, heated and ventilated seats, and even all the safety features, especially as I get older. This truck is so fun to take on a long trip, I do appreciate it!

All these service visits aren't helping raise the trade in value

In seriousness, I would be pissed, you seem more calm than I am, so good on you. Hopefully you hear back soon and they have an actual plan besides "can't replicate":fingerscrossed:.

Dealer called me and said there’s an active TSB for the issues I’m having. Software update and should be good to go.
