I have never bought a new truck but I knew I would buy a Tundra if I did and here we are!
I purchased a 2023 Tundra Double Cab 2WD. Not a lot of features, but I'm a base model guy to begin with.

    Problems so far:
    1) Sometimes when slowing down to make a turn the truck will "stall" and not accelerate
    2) Sometimes when I stop and put the truck in park it will shut off and then restart immediately.
    3) On some roads I feel like the suspension system is too "bouncy" and does not create a smooth ride. (my wife's 22 highlander is much smoother on the same roads)
    4) Blind spots are pretty bad on this truck for some reason...I may be adding the little bubble mirrors to help as this truck does not have sensors.

Lots of power! Very fast! transmission is smooth.

I was also wondering if anyone has ever upgraded the suspension on a new truck to make it ride smoother or not?

I can't speak to the "stalling" but #2 is normal and part of the auto start stop feature. If you prefer it not do that, just turn it off every time you start the truck up. #3 is kind of subjective, may be bouncy for you but someone else might think it rides well. I also don't think comparing it to a 22 Highlander is a realistic thing to do. Completely different vehicles with suspensions made for completely different purposes. #4, I agree with. The A pillar is pretty damn wide. I have to make extra sure i look both ways with that. It is really wide, especially with my side window deflectors adding another 2.5 inches to the width.

Ok, let me start by saying I have zero experience with new tundras, that said, in your last point you can always change up your suspension components to a softer off-road suspension if that’s the ride you’re after. Keep in mind though that everything is a tradeoff. For instance a lot of off-road suspensions ride better but you get more body roll and sometimes less payload capacity before you sag in the back. Also, the highlander is a unibody vehicle designed for comfort. A Base tundra is a body on frame truck designed for work duty. You’re comparing apples to oranges here.

blind spots in ALL new cars are getting worse due to safety regulations such as roof crush tests. You’ll notice the windows are getting smaller as well with higher belt lines in just a bout everything, for the same reasons. This created the mandatory backup camera legislation because you can’t see out of the cars anymore. Bigger mirrors are an option here “tow mirrors” are what most of the previous gen owners call them.

Super appreciate the input! #2 I think I will have to get used to it. #3 Totally hear you on that and it makes sense not to make a comparison...I guess I'm just too suburbanized. :) #4 I didn't want to look like an "old man" (I'm approaching 50, so I guess that's all relative anyway) with the bubble mirrors...but safety must come first!

Your thoughts on upgrading suspension??? Or should I just stop whining? LOL

I also just got the 2023 Tundra SR 4x4. Coming from a 2018 Highlander. My first truck. As someone already pointed out, can’t compare the ride quality between the body on frame and unibody Highlander. The stalling I solved with turning off the auto start / stop feature with a gadget from eBay. Plug and play. No splicing. Keeps it off automatically every time you start the truck.

I just got my 23 tundra this week and same thing happened to me. Just make sure to not press the brake too hard when putting the truck into Park.

My other vehicle is a 2017 rx350 so very similar to your highlander. These are two completely different types of vehicles and build structure.

A unibody crosscover will ride way smoother than a body on frame truck as a highlander or rx350 has more in common with the Avalon /es350 than does a truck.

That makes total sense. Honestly, this truck is for possible weekend warrior projects and primarily for showing homes in the real estate world. I guess I could have bought a prius or something that was really good on gas mileage but I really really like the new look of the Tundras and I am just a truck guy to begin with... I really do want it to be a smoother ride, but maybe I can just get over it with a better understanding that you've provided. This truck is freaking awesome...

As mentioned check your air pressure. Sweet spot for me is 35 psi maybe even 32 psi. Start with that see if it makes a difference for you.

Yes you can modify your suspension to fit your taste, also as previously mentioned.

There is a nifty search feature located in the upper right hand if your on mobile, chances are your question may have been covered/ answered already.

I’ve got just over 500 miles on my limited so far and I’ve definitely felt the suspension settling in and riding overall just a bit smoother. I usually set my tire pressure for even wear check tread face and sidewall temperature periodically for excessive heat from typical lower pressures than factory suggested.
Mine is a limited crew with 5.6 bed 4x4, running 36 lbs fr, 33 lbs rr currently. Definitely has helped with the ride, road holding and general composure. If I know I’ll be loading up the bed or pulling my trailer I’ll increase the rears to at least factory pressures

Yes very true. It took my Tundra a while since brand new for the suspension to settle.

till around the 1k mile mark did it start to settle.

also keep it out of eco mode for the stalling issue, better yet, never dial below normal.

My SR5 OFF ROAD Trail doesn't have BSM either. Can we add it? Change out the mirrors or something?

its a lot more complicated and $$$ then just mirrors. you need the sensor blocks in the rear bumper corners (one each side). you cant see them from the outside but if you crawl under and look in the corners you can see them.

Sorry to hear about the engine failure. Check the engine failure recall and see if you're on it.

    Good Thread.
My issues with the truck so far:
    1. As you mentioned at the start, when slowing down to almost stop, then decide to accelerate there is stall, feels like lack of response,
    2. Rear view Mirror keeps disconnecting and I have to disengage video mode and re engage it again
    3. Fuel tank cover seems like its coming off, I think it's a matter of time before that happens. I was changing the engine oil and noticed that, anyone else has this problem?

    -Mileage that problem/failure happened: 24K

    -Build date:9/22

-What actually happened: Accelerated from 15 mph to 65-70mph. after letting off, dashboard lit up and told me to pull the truck off the road. (Can't remember if it said I had a power steering problem, or if it said I would have power steering while pulling over. Once I stopped, the truck stopped running. the dashboard said that it was not ready to start. the power steering and check engine lights were on. *I have had issues with it stalling, or not reacting to me pushing on the accelerator when I called for more power/gas/etc. these could not "be replicated" in the shop when I had the preventative maintenance services done on the truck.

-Vehicle usage (towing/off-roading/pavement pounder): very light cargo from time to time (home depot runs) and 99% used for showing houses. 1/4 of all mileage is highway.

-Vehicle modifications (tune/geared/tires): standard double cab with the twin turbo. No mods.

-Maintenance intervals: every 5k for tire rotations, oil changes at dealership.

    Well,,,, I guess it’s official recalling 102,000 V6s would dictate a problem!!
    WOW!!!

soooo glad I did not upgrade! Now I’ll wait another year or two and look at them then!!:)

I guess Toyota thinks there is a problem after all??? All this time some were saying it’s no big deal there are just a few. Then a few turns into 102,000 vehicles!!

Unfortunately not, the recall just came out and there's potential for it to expand to encompass more vehicles. Sequoias, hybrids and potentially 2024 vehicles. All of the above have had engine failures. Lexus with the same engine as well.

I followed the car care nut channel's advice and did DIY oil change three times under 2000 miles starting by 250 miles, mine included in the recall, hopefully no engine damage there, we'll see what's the diagnostic criteria and the remedy for it

Day 3 at the dealership as they try to figure out what's wrong (My truck IS on that recall list for motor issues from what I understand). Side note: I took a survey through Toyota concerning the issue with the stalling and was asked if I got an oil change at the 1K mark. Since I bought my 23 in Dec 22, I assume they were not aware of any issues at that time. I do not recall getting that oil change.
