The best thing is you dont lose 10k as soon as you drive it off the lot, also 5 years later still worth a nice amount. Enjoy your truck!

I bought my 2008 with 78k miles for $17. Sold it to carmax this year, had 128k miles, got $11.5k. Depreciation thus $787/year.

My brand new one will be worse, of course, but planning on keeping it until they outlaw ICE engines. (When politicians say "If you like your ICE, you can keep it" you know the end is near)

You’re absolutely right. Resale on my Ford will be worse than it would have been with a Tundra. Totally agree.

Multi function tailgate is a good one . Heated steering wheel , Ram boxes , 12” screen ( makes it very easy to see the street names in navigation ) auto up/down front windows , MDS , heated strip in the defrost to thaw out the windshield wipers faster ...etc etc

Not everyone wants this stuff though, out of all that I could maybe go with the auto up down windows. Give me more usable stuff like the large gas tank as an option on all trim levels. I hope this next one doesn't have a screen anywhere near 12".

If we want the Tundra to remain in production, then we need to hope it has all the market demanded bells and whistles while still delivering reliability.

Selling 120k trucks/year won’t keep this ball rolling forever.

There already planning on increasing production, thats why they moved the tacoma to Mexico, to make room for more tundra production.

A Ram could have its current feature seat and also make me the perfect cup of coffee every morning, and I'd still never drive one. It's not that I don't think most of those features are decent. But my primary concern is a good daily driver that will get me home every time from hard-to-reach places where I have no cell service.

I don't mind this. If it didn't shut off, it would be another issue for thieves to exploit. Toyota is too cautious to not hedge against that. I DO wish it were smarter. Like shut the truck off if I get in and drive it 20 ft without the key in my pocket.

They've been building the same model since 2007 model year, and production hasn't been in danger of being cut off. Think of it like this: 100k+ trucks per year for 14 years with almost $0 spent in R&D on new drivetrains, etc. It's almost like free money compared to the domestics.

I'd think they'd have to get to Land Cruiser numbers before the Tundra is in danger of extinction.

Why does it need to shut off to stop theft , I can’t take the truck out of park without the key fob .
I never said everyone wants these things but it seems more people want them than don’t hence the sales figures .

Aftermarket remote starts trump factory all day long. Mine doesn't shut the truck off when you open the door. Only when you step on the brake.

Toyota's general "lack of features" is one reason I buy them. I realize I'm in the minority in that I don't need my truck to pamper me. I need my truck to be reliable and do truck stuff. I'm very curious to see what the new Tundra will come up with. I've been half heartedly doing a bit of shopping for a newer truck and thought about waiting until the new one came out. I'm at the point where the newest one I'm interested in buying is a 2017 but I'm more likely to put $10K into my '05 to upgrade and rebuild it so I can drive it into the ground.

Also if the Tundra would have had all those features and could make me the perfect cup of coffee every morning I’d probably be driving a Tundra . lol

The problem is that if it is a complete redesign, and they release the info on it earlier that necessary - they risk a decrease in sales of the current generation while people hold out for the next generation. It's a fine balance of releasing the information at just the right time to where people that can't wait will still buy, and those that were planning to wait regardless can start to get excited.

Exactly, after 2017 you are stuck with all that collision sensor crap. Really wish we could have a choice for those options. Most of this newer stuff does not appeal to me at all.

Most of the items you listed are just preferences and if that is the best features you can add the tundra is not missing much, the tundra does have auto up\down windows though. Also I could say the tundra has a full roll down back window , Does not have MDS which in my preference is a bonus......The only one I will give you is the heated steering wheel.

Correct. We, as "enthusiasts" know that a new model is coming. My experience is that the majority of the people out there have no idea. They will go buy a current gen until the day before the new one comes out. Manufacturers don't want to sit with old generation inventory if they can prevent it, so there is no benefit for them in advertising a new model.

(In the Tundra's case of course there are some of us who would go buy the current gen just because we know a new one is coming and we want to snatch the last V8's )

My owner's manual says I have the windshield wiper deicing strip. Heated steering wheel is the only one of those features I'd like to have.

I really never understood why people get so worked up about these features, they all have an off button unless they are mandated by law - are you annoyed that your truck has the LATCH carseat system as mandated by law? Or do you just ignore it, and not use it?

As I mentioned in a previous quote, the current sales numbers ( ~ 110K) don't justify that strategy. In fact, if the truck was such a game changer, it would make more sense to close down current production and get ready for the new generation. Something that is not happening thus leading many like myself to believe it is more hype than substance. The Texas plant is capable of over 250K units alone. Running a plant at less than half capacity does not make sense especially since Tacoma production will be shifting to Mexico.

Well, sometimes it's good to just walk into the bathroom, stand in front of the mirror, point at the person looking at you from the other side and say "Shit man, I guess you don't know everything, and that's okay."

A dealer told me march was when 2021 ordering was going to be closed. Is that normal or could that be true?

For features I'd like more payload and towing #s, better mpg, and an auto 4x4 option but even the ford doesn't offer that until you go lariat. The current tundra is only a few mpg better than the 3/4 ton gas motors with nearly double the payload/towing ability.

I'm groovy with that ^^^. I smile every time (daily driver) I get in my 1997 T-100. Hell. I'd trade the Tundra's electric windows and door locks for a 3rd pedal on the floor.
