That’s the LX. The GX is still available with 18”-22” wheels, you just have to cut a lot of plastic off. I run 285/70/17s on my 2013

At 60 mph, I can hit 19-20 all day long. Step it up to hwy speeds at 70-75 and it drops to 15 more 16. From what I've heard, the Highway they were on had a speed limit of 75 plus 0-60 times and some off roading. That would be about a 30% increase for me.

Huge increase in air resistance at those speeds especially when we are trying to drive giant bricks through the air.

    Not following you.

"external (1)" as in not in the transmission, or "external (2)" as in separate from other radiating devices?

I think the proper verbiage they used to use was "Auxiliary Cooler", just to muddy the waters here a bit. ;)

Considering “the woods” are usually uphill from home this also means nothing. I can go for a walk in the woods and drive home 20 miles and get 26 mpg in my lifted Tacoma with 4.0. There for I can often get 26 mpg in a truck that’s rated for 21 highway. Weird

"Auxiliary" not necessarily "external", but most likely external. Semantics, yo!

Somewhere they were saying it’s external and sandwiched between two radiators making it hard to see. Not positive.

I believe their targets were 20% better gas mileage and 20% more power. It looks like it will be in that ballpark. Maybe the number itself isn't destroying the competition, but a 20% increase over the previous model is a big jump. 20% more of anything is generally considered significant.

I get it, but the competition is not the 2007 Tundra; it’s everyone else’s 2021+ trucks.

    20% after 15 years is different than 20% in a 3- or 4-year generation…

Pretty good, I got 21 mpg going 50-60 mph. I noticed, if the windows are down along with the back window, mpg seems to be a little better. Possibly because the air passing through and less drag.

I'd imagine the 2022 will get near 30mpg at the similar conditions. That would be :bananadance:.

Exactly. I’m not seeing this new Tundra living up to the hype. I was expecting a mpg around 25 plus mpg. Fuel prices in Canada are sitting at around $6/gallon so pretty important in our market. Considering Toyota will probably run this model another 15 years it will put them far behind the competition five years from now as the competition moves forward.

I kept my old, 2006 Tundra Crew 4x4 as a back up truck for hunting and errands as I cycled through several other brand trucks (GMC,Ford, and Ram) used primarily for work commutes and long road trips. Those other trucks are all gone and the Tundra is still here. Simply because the other trucks all had some sort of issue from build quality (Ram), comfort (GMC), and engine issues (Ford). I am getting the Tundra and am extremely excited to match or exceed real world mileage of the other brands comparable motors (5.3, 3.5TT, and 5.7) with Toyota reliability and build quality. In fact, my buddy who has a 2010 Silverado was shocked at how clean and tight my truck was. I didn’t think much about it until I rode in his. The dash was cracked, the suspension was completely worn out, and body trim pieces had fallen off. I’m so done with other brands and could less about getting a couple miles more per gallon as the Tundra is a 20 year truck.

Same. If I buy a brand new vehicle I must keep it for at least 10 years to get my money's worth.

So when I said "obsolete" this means the 2022 truck improves upon the 2021 in every category. Of course no vehicle is truly obsolete until it's junked. I think our oldest is a 2007 and it's still going strong.

You sir are the exception. Most truck owners don’t keep their trucks for that length of time. Your right that Toyota builds a very reliable truck but truck shoppers are looking for feature, tech, performance, comfort and mpg. Reliability is far down the list. There is a reason why Ford sells so many F150 and it’s not because it’s a reliable truck.

    A bunch
This is the pinnacle for ICE vehicles - across the board, not just pickups. So if Toyota does not put a EV Tundra out in 5 or 6 years (believe it was 2025ish they were looking to put a bunch of EV's out) then yes, they will be behind, but as far as ICE they're right there with the pack, and the pack is not going to move the needle that much more.

Ford has come out with a decent hybrid, and now Toyota and they're both showing MPG's in the mid to high 20's under ideal conditions. When you're pushing a big square 5000+ lb block through the air there's only so much that can be done. Maybe someone comes out with a diesel/gas-electric (like locomotives) but other than that for those who don't see electric vehicles being viable for them then the pick of trucks you have now will be what you get until ICE will be very annoying to drive from a lack of gas stations.

I wish Toyota (or any manufacturer) would come out with a galvanized dip option to their box frame. I still can't see myself getting this truck to last more than 10 years without it rusting from the inside out. Fliud film can only do so much (can't get complete coverage internally) and I haven't seen any long term data on Eastwood's internal frame coating.

Pickups will probably be the last to adopt full EVs. I read and heard recently Ford dropping electrification of their Super Duty trucks for the time being as an example of this. What I do expect is you will have 1500 models that will have an EV option but there will be ICE counterparts and Hybrids like the one the 22 Tundra has. I personally am straying away from EVs especially in trucks because when I hook up a trailer the range will be complete crap.

Ah, but it may be the reason Toyota is the #1 car manufacturer in the world and the North America. Toyota doesn't chase the shiny object it chases proven technology though research, extensive testing, improvement on design, and manufacturing before transitioning to new products. So, Toyota will always be behind the others for bling and ahead for quality and reliability. "The Toyota Way" has taken them to the top while the others are in big trouble. Auto manufactures have lost over 200 billion this year from the pandemic and unless the chip and supply chain issues are corrected in 2022 American taxpayers will spend at least a trillion dollars bailing out North American car manufactures.

How are y’all still arguing what the MPG is when it’s been posted what it is
is this the alternative colored 1794? The darker leather? Or is it the lighting?

Toyota never claimed to beat the competition by 20%. Sweers said it himself the goal was to improve upon the current Tundra.
