I've seen several videos of the frame and it shows the Turbo Coolers, blue, Radiator ,silver, and Hybrid, orange. Where is the transmission cooler?

Forgive me if it has been posted but I just watched a video from TFL showing real world mpg on the new Tundra SR5. After a 150 mile trip mpg was 19.9mpg. A little disappointing. I was hoping to see 24-26mpg. My 2020 Tundra SR5 was rated at 19mpg on the highway which I could easily get at around 65 to 70mph. A gain of 1-2mpg for the loss of the 5.7 and the complexity of the 3.5TT doesn’t seem worth it.

He also did som 0-60 times and someone said earlier that the highway he was driving on has a speed limit of 75. At 75 I am lucky to get 15 mpgs. Which for me would be a 30% increase which is pretty dang good.

Yeah, I think mine is rated 15/17 maybe? Not sure, that was 10+ yrs ago that I bought it. But I have hit 19 on the very rare /babied occasion. (very little city stop/go, empty, not towing, etc, but was running thru small towns down to 35 mph)

They posted another video today and mention this was probably one of the first off the line trucks. They got this truck before the media event happened.

One of the videos said it was hard to see, but I think they said it was sandwiched between the radiators down low on the passenger side. I've been looking in all the chasis videos and haven't seen anything yet, but they haven't shown a good view of it either. I wish someone would point it out if it is actually there.

In Canada, Toyota uses imperial gallons when converting to "mpg" not US Gallons

This might’ve already been mentioned. But this video one of the reviewers talks about how the hybrid motor generator shares its fluid with the transmission (at 00:59). So in theory, the orange color rad at the front is cooling the fluid for the hybrid motor generator as well as the transmission. Not to be taken as a ‘confirmed fact’… this is the only video I’ve found that mentions this so far. Just for interest sake.

Yes sir. I saved the sticker and it’s in the glove box but someone else now owns the truck. I was consistently achieving the EPA rating on the highway @ 65-70mph.

Same. If I’m driving through Iowa or some other flat state around 65 or so, it’s fairly easy to get 18-19MPG.

So we are only talking a mpg bump of 1 to 2. Somewhat disappointing. Even the 0-60 is only about a second quicker.

No you are comparing best case scenario of the old truck, flat land going 60-65 mph to average driving of the new truck. Most people barely get 15-16 driving the old truck in real world driving. New truck should be 20-21. I can get 20 mpgs out of my old truck if conditions are perfect but in reality I get 15-16.

People keep asking "does the new Tundra have a transmission cooler?" To which Toyota responds "yes".

What people need to ask a Toyota product rep "does the new Tundra have an EXTERNAL transmission cooler?"

I think y'all mean "external", right?

Almost all automatic vehicles have a transmission cooler. Most all are inside the radiator, even many trucks.

As crazy as it sounds, go look on the F150 forums at the PowerBoost mileage. It is even hybrid and real world people only see 19, 21 if you are lucky and the stars align.

We have about 10 GMC's at work and with the 6.2 and can get 19-22 on the highway all day long...... about 18 average in them.

That’s not my best case senecio, I consistently hit 19mpg every time I hit the highway @ 65-70mph. I was really hoping to see 25mpg by the hype that Toyota was spewing. They said this would be a class leading truck but the mpg and 0-60 performance we are seeing are very standard number for a full size truck.

Complexity and the latest tech doesn’t always mean large mpg gains. Manufactures are chasing mpg numbers for carbon tax credits but many times the gains are so small thay are insignificant in the real world.

I agree. This test seemed very flawed and inaccurate. Everyone is losing their minds over this and it wasn't even the hybrid. People need to relax.

Toyota Canada uses imperial gallons for their MPG conversion from L/100km. So the window sticker says 19mpg but thats not US gallons which Toyota USA rate theirs at.

    2021 5.7L 4X4
    City/Highway/Combined
    L/100km 18.0/14.2/16.3
    MPG 16/20/17 (Imperial gallons)
    MPG 13/17/14 (US gallons)
