Just spoke to my dealer. There will be no special ordering. The only option I have is to hope one comes in before 12/31 and just take it. For tax reasons I need to take delivery before EOY. Need a back up plan. Any ideas? 2500 GMC at4? ram 2500?

Sounds like they will be a dealer installed option. Which is fine with me as it won't be built into the base price so I won't be buying something I'd never use - along with the 50% or so that have taken the survey. If you have to have them, buy them from the dealer.

I would talk to your CPA. I believe if you have a VIN and have ordered the vehicle it may count toward Section 179.

    Edit: https://answerconnect.cch.com/topic...-first-year-additional-depreciation-allowance

If you have a binding contract by the end of the year, that should be enough.

One dealer in my city told me the same thing, no special orders. But then another told me they will be able to special order no problems. Seems to be a lot of mixed messaging going on during the lead up.

I hear ya on the rust, I do believe the trucks are better coated than your older Ram, and Toyota has no room to talk about rust...lol... The 4:10s on the Ram was nice (I owned a 2014 2500 Bighorn). The mileage was outstanding for a HD truck I got better mileage with the 3/4 ton than the 2021 and under Tundras get. I was just curios on the Ram choice or lack of. I would say if you need 3/4 ton 1/ton capability, to look in that dept, if you need 1/2 ton capability there are a few choices.

I am right in between what I need, I have a Tacoma that takes care of all my normal truck needs and I like it so much so I bought 2 of them. The Tacoma is staying,

I do need a truck that has more towing for an upcoming RV purchase. I am on the fence on the RV style I am going to get, if I go with a normal travel trailer, I will probably buy a Tundra, if I can get past the shortcomings of this new one.

If I go with a Truck camper or Toy Hauler I will move up to the appropriate HD size. I was hoping for a bit closer to 2K or a little over in the payload dept for a 4x4, I was hoping to get away with a lighter truck camper and a travel trailer and get both of them done with a Tundra for no other reason than resale and reliability, but it looks like that isn't gonna happen.

For back up plan, if you're set on the Tundra, I would buy a plane ticket and travel to other dealers to purchase by EOY.

    A bunch
Can't really go wrong with any of the HD's. Each of them have their little quirks, can only go out and test drive them all. My preference is a GMC 6.6 gasser. If you do go back to Ford make sure to get the 7.3 if you go for a gasser, don't want to pass on it and get the 6.2 and always have the what if in the back of your mind.

I leave my Tacoma as is but I have said I need a bed mat for about a year now, and just never order it...things slide without it, and the bed gets scratched up with abrasive material...

If I were buying a 3/4 ton gas truck right now, the F250 with the 7.3 would be high on my list.

I'm sure when the chip shortage eases a bit you can get one of those at a very nice discount when Ford has to clear out all those Heavy Duty stock pile of 21's they have sitting around.

We can only hope, if that happens with all the big 3, it will push pricing down and discounts will be there to be had again!!

I'm liking the platinum grill/package in blueprint with the TRD off road, power step and running boards. Still thinking about hybrid or not, but leaning towards it. I think that's do-able? I can't wait for the configuration tool. It should look good next to this - AM-JKLW43SgvzDvewPMTlXPQhb4MfcQDamcyk9Ul_52de8e4e2fd2062d8d56290b0e6abe7ff8b806e0.jpg[IMG]

I think most of Toyota's rust problems were frame related, right? I undercoat the frame so the Dodge still looked good under the skin but the body was gone. I don't recall seeing too many Tundras with bodies all rusted out up here in New England but maybe I never noticed. What makes you think the new Dodge is better coated (seriously, not being funny). I see so many of the Gen 4's (came out in 2009) with rusted wheel wells already, its absurd. Did Ram actually say they addressed the rust with the Gen 5? I never see them even acknowledge the issue they just keep building steel trucks as if no one cares the body only lasts a dozen years.

A big part of considering Tundra is the aluminum in the right places in lieu of the same steel mistakes and the fact that they upped their towing to be near HD territory in a base (ie: cheaper) package. My uncles 2010 F250 bed fell off last year due to rust and he bought a 2020 before the craziness occurred. He works commercially so needs the HD but tells me every time I see him that he can't stand the ride quality. He also said the mileage on the 6.2 is about 10-13 city/hwy which is pretty close to what i got with the Dodge. 20 combined sounds dam good.

I think Im blueprint platinum, TRD Sport grill and color match surround, black 18" wheels.

maybe color match flares off the sport too, but I ahve to wait and see how the black ones look first.

    power step and running boards

33" Cooper AT3 XLT, same as I have now

thats, IF I like the way is test drives and after all the "market adjustment" bullshit is over, Im not paying over MSRP, IDGAF if I have to wait.

**Edit- non hybrid**. not really sold on that deal, they kinda lost me with no storage under the seat, I really want that this time. Plus I just dont see it being worth thousands of dollars at this point.

I really have no clue on the rust issue whether its better or not.

I live in the south and we don't have that issue, one of my best friends lives in Michigan and he says he just buys whatever he wants because they all rust in his experience over the years so he just deals with it or gets rid of it.

If he is buying used, he comes to the South to buy, he won't buy a used truck in Michigan.

I know that every time I visit him in northern Michigan I see trucks with rust, and no brand is immune to it, I have seen rust on every brand on my trips north over the years. The aluminum in the Tundra should help though.

Yep, if they aren't careful they will mess up the Tacoma too.... I think the model that will get the most benefit from all these new changes is going to the be the Sequoia, the new Sequoia is shaping up to have the potential to be
legendary....if they don't mess it up...

Once I finally rule out the Tundra (waiting for more real world reviews not toyota marketing courses) I will look close at the Sequoia and new 4 runner especially if they don't neuter the 4 runner. (the sequoia can't really go anywhere but up)

Not sure what the tax advantage would net in the end to if you’re intending to subsequently flip a depreciating HD for a custom Tundra? Apologies if I misunderstand your plan. They’re also not really comparable in terms of vehicle class (or pricing). If a half ton would suit your needs I’d say wait and order the Tundra you want and save on MSRP, insurance, and fuel instead of tax?

I think this is kinda of a neat idea. Unveil the new truck and then afterwards build it online immediately and reserve at your dealer.

Don't know his exact situation, but for Canada it is extremely advantageous to buy in December if you can do a tax write off. In Canada the first year you claim the vehicle it is a write off of 15% of vehicle value, whether you buy in January or December, then subsequent years on that same vehicle it is 30% of the remaining value.

And HD's are far from crazy depreciation too, definitely do better than the other half tons percentage wise.

I don't think the spec sheet is accurate for a 4x4, its not aligning with door stickers on Tundras being reviewed.

For instance, pretty basic SR5 TRD OR 4x4 CrewMax 6.5' door sticker payload was 1450lbs. See here at 12min15sec:

Since I assume the 2021 Tundra is out for you, I'd be looking at a Sierra 3500 gasser. I'd probably go for the SLE for myself but I know the AT4 is popular.

Also, you have to buy a new vehicle this year for tax purposes or you want to?
