I like that she removed the engine cover to view the plumbing. Looks much cleaner than the ridiculous tangle the Ford TT's have. Still a pretty busy engine bay, just no way around it with twin turbos.

The crush space between bumper and radiator seems excessive. Plenty of electric fans and cooling, and I hear there's an air-to-fluid trans cooler hidden in there somewhere.

Don't know what a sparkplug change will require, V8 iridiums can go 100k miles easily. Do turbo engines need more frequent changes?

I haven't seen the oil filter location, the Pro engine skid doesn't have a filter door. Easy-peasy oil filter change or PITA on the TTV6? I don't like having to drop the skid for an oil filter change.

We know TRD pro crawl control is notorious to get out of any situation, is it so good that Toyota said screw the recovery gear space and tow hooks???idk bruh

Saw a picture of this on my IG. They stated it had a factory 3 inch lift with 35's.

Some said it’s the same engine Toyota already makes for the LC I think. Any confirmation? If so, anyone know where the oil filter is on it?

I am not sure if this is going to work. I found this the other day when trying to find location of filter and it is at bottom front.

If those are still the 20" wheels they don't look so bad with 35s.

I thought they probably were. I knew they looked like the TRD wheels, but I supposed it was possible they had swapped out some 18s from the SR5. I couldn't tell just by looking.

Thought I would jump in on this thread now that we have some real data from Toyota to look at (spec sheet). I am new here, been reading for about a month as my long time truck (98 dodge ram 2500) died about 6 weeks ago so I now have to buy a new truck at the worst possible time in history to have to buy one. With that said, I think this Tundra stacks up nicely and thought you may appreciate perspective from a person considering the Tundra.

Drove a couple F150's w/3.5 in XLT trims which is the only way to get a height adjustable seat in a Ford. Nuts that no XL seat goes up and down and its just too high in its fixed position. My 98 Dodge had a height adjustable seat, WTF. The F150 tow rating for the 3.5 is 11,300 with 3.55's and for 2k you can add the Max Tow package and get it to 13,800 with 3.73's but you get a modified 3 leaf pack suspension with it and its noticeably bouncier/stiffer than the stock F150 (drove them back to back). Payload in the Max Tow truck was only 1439 (1507 on non max tow one) so my heaviest trailer which is 8k would chew most of that. A 13k trailer would be overweight with no one driving, I can't see towing more than 10k with that payload but Max Tow supposedly adds a beefier 3/4 floating axle so probably worth it for durability. The sticker was 53K for either truck (more options on non Max Tow) and these were XLT's!!!

Drove an F250 XLT and the towing is only 12,500 with the standard 6.2. Not interested in the diesel (cost or hassle) and can not find a 7.3 which would add another 2k to the price (which was 52k) but adds about 2k towing. Payload was only 2850 as well, you have to move to an F350 to get back to the 3750 payload my 98 Dodge had. The ride of the F250 was awful, the back literally jumps out regularly over normal road imperfections when driving unladen. I cannot imagine driving that thing everywhere, my Dodge was not good either but somehow seemed better than that F250.

The Tundra SR5 looks like it will come in at 11,200 towing. The payload should be north of 1600 (the Pro says it will have 1600) which works fine for an 8k trailer. It has a standard height adjustable seat from what I can see, LED headlights which I love (need XLT High trim in Ford to get those which is a 6k package). Initial reviews say the ride quality is great and should be about the same gas mileage as F150 and way better than F250. Right now that truck would cost me 45k in the configurator for a 2021 model so if they did not go nuts on price uptick or try to gouge me with market price adjustments its an awesome option.

My Dodge was extremely reliable so the Ford horror stories scare me to death. I do all my own maintenance and most repairs and am worried about a brand new engine and transmission in their 1st year with the Tundra. I am handy but am not fixing tranny's or serious engine/turbo work in my garage. Do you think the 1st year will be a bunch of recalls and issues and will the thing last? My dodge had over 200k when they towed it away. If the price is right, the Tundra will be my next truck and I am worried about expected teething problems and their long term impacts.

    Thanks everyone

Any reason you didn't look at a Ram 2500 with the 6.4? It has the coil link suspension and rides very nice for a 3/4 ton truck, you can also get 14K towing with the 4:10 gears. If your looking for a heavy towing gas truck, you may want to make sure to drive a Ford with the 7.3...its a whole other animal for gas powered HD trucks....

I will admit the upper level rams are really nice looking, but I still am hesitant to seriously look at them. My bil bought his ram about a month after I bought my Tundra in 16. My Tundra is still like new except for a few scratches, his truck is a pos. Paint is peeling off, rattles, etc. It just has not held up longterm like my Tundra. If I bought a new truck every 2-3 years I would look at them, but I want to keep my trucks for 10 years and to me Tundras are the best choice for that.

I don't get it either. Frig off with the chrome! If I were to buy a new truck from the dealer, I'd have them swap that surround out for a color matched one before I took delivery. They can send the chrome back to Sweers or whoever thought it was a good idea with a note that says "stick this where the sun don't shine so it'll stop blinding us!"

    A bunch
    :crapstorm:

I blacked out this truck so my next one will most likely have chrome. All depends on the colour - it really looked dumb on my Inferno one when I bought it, but on a deep red or blue I really like it.

No way they can make everyone happy with only 10 or so trim and package combos. Hell Ford has about 100 and people still do their own tweaking after buying.

This is why I can't wait for the configurator. Just let me go play around and figure out how I best like it.

I did and I do like it, alot. The ride was real good, better than the F150 stock (non max tow). The main reason I can't buy a Ram, RUST!!! Loved my 98 Dodge but the front doors were rusted through (6-12 inches of the bottoms were just gone), the bed rusted off and was welded and tacked back on twice as the mounting holes rusted away from the connectors, my tailgate was swiss cheese and I had no wheel wells. Wheel wells were gone after 10 years, I barely remember what the truck looked like with them.

I am not a Ford fan at all (don't want to be), but I do believe the aluminum will not rust and I believe the steel still will rust just as bad given the same New England weather conditions over the next 20 years. So the Tundra composite bed with aluminum supports, HUGE plus. Aluminum front doors and hood, big plus. Fender flares on the Tundra are plastic so as long as they are well made I won't have two 5 inch, 3 foot long semi circles over my wheels with duct tape on them to pass inspection. Not sure what the tailgate is made of (don't see that posted anywhere) but that could still be a problem but better than everything rusting.

Having said that I did test several Ram 2500's, again the base model had no adjustable seat (WTF) so a Bighorn lightly optioned was 53k with the 6.4. Thats still 8k more than the current Tundra (2021 prices) and no LED headlights which should be standard these days. I doubt I would do the 4.10's but the 3.73's still get 14k on towing and payload was similar to Ford at about 2900 for the one I drove. Definitely an option but everytime I drive down the road and see a truck with no wheel wells or a rusted door frame/tailgate I feel like someone is trying to tell me to NOT do that again.

On the Tacomas with the composite bed, do those owners do a bed mat or a liner or anything? Or do they just leave it as-is?

I did bed mat when I had mine. They are SLICK. If you don't have a mat, you have to tie everything down. Didnt have any issues with the bed except how slick it was. But I also have a mat in my Tundra with a spray in liner for the same reason.

I crack my bed when I throw a cinder block into my bed and it’s so slick you could ice skate inside the bed with socks

Thanks. I was going to add the rubber interior mats. I'll add a bed mat to the order when I get the truck.

I don't even live in a place with snow and I love them. I can't even imagine what it'd be like with cloth mats in winter.
