I think whether you like it or not v8's will die sooner rather then later just based on fleet mpg/emission standards whether you agree with them or not.... and hybrids have come along way, pretty sure the prius is always listed as one of the most reliable cars

I'm taking the opposite approach and buying up every 5.7 I force V/8 I can find, at every salvage yard I know, for my new business. Details to come.

Well, I guess there is always a chance for a V8 with gas saving features like cylinder deactivation. Let’s just hope they debut it in the Super Bowl!

    A bunch
Does GM sell a comparable gas turbo engine in their half ton? No. Does Ram sell a comparable gas turbo engine? No. So throw those comparisons out. Same with Nissan. Ford does still have the coyote. But check the door sides to see if they have some kind of badge, EcoBoost, Powerboost, or powerstroke. They sell more of those than they do coyotes. Saying the raptor or TRX have them is not a good comparison either, they're not the day to day truck the mass buyer is looking at.

Is the V8 better at towing, absolutely. Are half tons marketed for towing now? Hell no. They're family carriers that CAN tow, it's not their main feature. Do the V6TT hybrid unit right and the Tundra would dominate that sector. HD trucks are out there for primarily towing. Ford figured this out first and it's why they've kept the lead in sales. Ram went that way too with the new DT model, it's very cushy but the DS does hauling stuff better.

And Toyota has stated ALL of their vehicles will have a hybrid (I forget the time frame, but it's not far out) so it's pretty easy to see it is their priority. With what's out there they're actually staying away from electric only, pushing for gas hybrid or hydrogen vehicles.

A co-worker has this AT4 HD Diesel. By far the sexiest truck on the lot. I am a Toyota fan all the way, but I have to admit that this is not a bad looking truck, and I have secretly been browsing the GMC website a few times.....

Yup. The GMC looks damn good... on the outside. Still looks like a chevy inside, and I have spend the last 10 years with a company owned by Chevy lovers. Every truck in our fleet is Chevy. I hate their interiors. I hate the way the menus work. I can't get comfortable in them for a long drive. 1-2 hours tops and my back is killing me. Don't know why, don't care. I don't like them.

GMC might feel different, but I doubt it. Maybe I will go test drive one and see. Certainly won't be a diesel though. All the emission BS on them has made a diesel a nonstarter for me. Dealt with it in big trucks and it is nothing but problems. EGRs go to shit, the EGR sensors fail, the DEF is highly toxic and reeks. No thank you. I'm an old diesel or gasoline guy from this point forward.

I have a friend that got a 2020 Trailboss and it is a good looking truck, much as I hate to admit it, but I wouldn't buy one. I've driven it, and it still feels the same as the 2008+ trucks. Just not for me.

My former boss's TB doesn't get much different highway fuel economy than I do - 11.5 L/100 km vs 12.5 (you guys do the conversion yourselves; I can't be bothered this morning).

Fuel economy is the last reason I would go for a different truck. It's just not a factor. The TB my buddy has does beat my payload by about 500 pounds, though. That would be enough to make any trailer I like a viable tow. Still wouldn't buy one.

Funny thing - that's exactly the main thing keeping me from going to actually going to take one for a test drive. I have been in my co-worker's truck and we also have Chevy work trucks, and I just can't stand the interior, and that's the thing I will see the whole time I am driving it.
I did hear that they are getting all new interiors for 2022 models. Better, but I still don't like it much.

It's the feel for me. Looks matter too, but it just feels cheap in a GM product.

Payload is probably the one thing I would switch trucks for, whether to a 2022+ Tundra or something else. My brother's 2019 Sierra SLT CC standard bed has 500 lbs more payload than I do and if you go for the max trailering package, could be up to about 2200 lbs, or 1000 lbs more than I have.

I can relate to that, but I think I'd do a Trailer Toad before I gave up my Tundra. The cost and minor inconvenience of it is worth keeping the reliability.

    Not nearly enough room here!
If they screw around with the engine that made them a winner in 07, they won't need to worry about selling many. Hopefully the radio will mask the sick sounding V6 like in Fords. o_O

    UMM...?
1.)You'll have to prove that full size 1/2 tons aren't marketed based on their towing and hauling capability. That is definitely not true.
2.)No Tundra, V6 or otherwise, is going to dominate the sector. Are you kidding me?, take over Ford's sales?
3.) The only reason Ford leads in annual sales is because of mass low-end, discounted fleet sales that they do every year to keep that title. GM actually destroys them with private party purchase of GMC and Chevy.
4.)As far as all of Toyota's vehicles will be hybrids by 20xx... I'll believe that when I see it..just like all of GM's will be electric by 2035, just like the glaciers in Glacier National Park would be gone by 2020, just like we would burn through all our fossil fuels by 2002, just like Y2k was going to crash the grid across the world.
5.) How is comparison of 1/2 tons across the segment not apples to apples. You think those companies don't offer a a V6 turbo because they don't know to build them? They don't offer them because most people who pee standing up don't want a V6 in their full size truck. Ford has to sell them because they suck at producing fuel efficient reliable vehicles. The sales of V8s still dominate the market..

I’ve seen this quoted several times on this board. Don’t doubt it but do you/anyone have sales figures to back up the claim that Ford only wins due to cheap fleet sales?

I don’t have the sales figures but going by the driveways in my area Ford still leads , then Ram , then Chevy , then GMC , every now and then you might see a Tundra or Titan . Around this area there’s more GMC’s as company trucks and even UHaul has started renting GMC’s with the Fords . Any rental agency around here has either Ford or GM . I’ve often wondered why they don’t rent out the Tundra , with the resale wouldn’t they make more money in the long run ?

How does the DS haul better than the DT ? The DT’s have higher payloads than the DS .

Chevy has also gone the way of Ford and does have a 2.7TT in their half ton. Just another minivan replacement so dad's can feel like they're keeping their man card.

Again, this is the reason I've been pushed towards Toyota from Ford. I'm looking for a real truck without all the gadgets that solve problems I don't have, and technology that saves a cup of coffee worth of gas per tank at the expense of reliability.

Also, every other driveway has a domestic truck parked in it. I'd like to drive something a little different.

I look through the forums over there every once in a while. Seems like they have the fewest issues with that little 4-banger.

Of course, it probably doesn’t have cylinder deactivation.

no way! Hahaha. Still, it seems like the most issues are with the 6.2L. So many threads. Weird stuff too. Like engine redlining on cold start
