Not sure they're an accessory this time.... Pretty sure Toyota would've at least had them on the TRD Pro.

If they are available, wonder where they'd be installed?

As cool as it would be to see a version of the Tundra that you put in the dryer, I just mean they have to differentiate it and make it worse. Look at the Cayman/Boxster and the 911. They can't make the lesser platform too good before it starts cannibalizing sales of the big brother. BTW, the 718 and 911 share a platform.[/QUOTE]

I would argue that the Tundra is more the big little brother to the Tacoma, and Toyota would be just fine without the Tundra, I would not want to see a shrunk down version of this Tundra, I think that would be a mistake and Toyota would cede the midsize market that they currently dominate. The full size market is and should be a side note for Toyota, the midsize market they should take very serious since they dominate it now, but could lose it very quickly if they make the wrong changes.

I hope this powertrain in the Tundra is perfect, because if it isn't, the reputation will trickle down to every other SUV and Truck toyota sells in the US. Toyota has to be almost perfect with their reliability reputation, and it would not take much to knock em down a notch, which would be disastrous for some of the other products.

I think they messed up and didn't think about them....they were quick to say they were an accessory when people pointed it out and come up with some aerodynamics excuse, but they sure haven't made any effort to show them on a truck, or point out where they could be mounted. None of the journalists have been able to find the mounting points either.....

'18 Tacoma owner looking to jump ship when the '22/23/24 Tundra TRD Pro is readily available @MSRP or below. I joined this forum 2 hours ago and this post made my day for some reason.

Dont know but it's a looooong way to the frame from the outer edge of the grill. I hope they are rated to 2x the vehicle weight whatever they do.

I'm just saying you can't have them being too similar. Take the equipment in the 1794, and put that in the Tacoma, and you're possibly hindering your chances at selling upmarket Tundras. That's why I made my comment about making it cheaper.

They are always cheaper I guess I thought you meant cheaper than the tacoma's are now. They have always been cheaper than the Tundra in most trims, and Tacoma doesn't really do a bling package like the 17 whatever it is. Now bring the 4 runner closer to Tacoma pricing and now we are talking!!!!...lol

Nope. Just mean they're taking the platform from the Tundra, and trying to make a cheaper, smaller truck than the one the platform was originally used for.

I'd like to believe the sharing of platforms, powertrains, features, and the lack of refreshes ever few years is what keeps most Toyotas from reaching Big 3 levels of pricing.

I think Chevy actually has the lowest entry level pricing on a 1/2 ton pickup still. Their entry price is 29,300. Toyotas starts at 34 or so.

True, but I looked it up with configurator and that price is for a bare bones regular cab (they still make them, who knew?) with the V6. If you use a comparable 1500 against the entry Tundra they are about the same. I do like how they still offer the work trim.

And yet they still sell every Tacoma they make despite the powertrain that apparently everyone hates.

They do sell every one they can make, because they own that segment and it crosses all buyers. If you are a Ford/Ram/Chevy guy you still seriously consider a Tacoma if you are in the market for a mid size truck....The reverse is not true with the Tundra, hence the sales discrepancy we see. At the end of the day the new Tundra being a hit or not is not going to do too much one way or the other to Toyota's reputation in the US. I would say that a flop in the Tacoma department will.

The powertrain gets a lot of grief from the forum people, but once you learn how to drive it, it will get the job done. The only thing I would actually change would be low down torque, it doesn't make much low down, you have to wring its neck to get power out of it and a lot of people are uncomfortable with that. You also have to take advantage of all the different ways to work the auto transmission. And the earlier models were a little shift happy, that has been vastly improved the past couple of years. The turbo powertrain in the next one should help the low torque issue a good bit.

You get so offended when someone points out flaws. Relax, let Mike Sweers do the defending. The bottom line is a 400W inverter is ridiculous.

Toyota knows it's market and that is who they cater to. The big 3 have their constant **** wanking contests and Toyota does it's thing. Sweers has his ear to the ground as much as he can and he states it's not a race worth running, he's not incompetent. Am I saying they are they are exempt from criticism for their fumbles? Absolutely not, they need to know. A little off topic...I don't know if there are any gamers here, but Toyota and Nintendo have a lot in common, haha.

I don't think I properly communicated what I meant. My shrug smiley was to convey confusion. I'm in no way offended and I understand people want different things from their vehicles. That's where the variety of vehicles is a boon. If the X vehicle doesn't have the stuff you want, then maybe Y or Z vehicles do. Instead of complaining that it's not what you want and saying they should be doing what other manufacturers are doing, why don't you just buy from the others that have the stuff you want?

F if I know. I looked at current gen tow hooks once I heard it was an option, they're like 250 bucks installed yourself. IMO, they're a good thing to have. Not only if you need a yank, but if you need to provide a yank to somebody else. We'll see how they integrate with the front chin.
