I do like that the crew max is available with the 6.5 foot bed, but I liked the size of the outgoing DC model. The new one seems to be a tweener. To be honest, the rear seat room in the 22 crewmax looks like just a little bit more space than the outgoing 21 DC.. which is probably what it is. The old DC is now the crewmax.. maybe not exactly but roughly the same.

Is the AC condenser usually that big on a truck?

I think they have the front seats all the way back, which is why the rear seats look so much smaller in all these videos/pictures. They had the 2nd gen cab bodies on the test mules for these, so the cab room should be there. Just my take; we'll see when they release specs and more people start getting inside them.

    Think of it this way:

They have the room to make a thinner but larger condenser with trucks and they make a thicker smaller one for cars because of space restrictions.

Anyone who thinks the 22 crew max has similar rear passenger dimensions to a 21 DC has no idea what they are talking about. I have seen the 2022s in person and the interior dimensions are similar for both the CC and DC as the outgoing models. The biggest difference is the rear headroom when adding the panoramic sun roof. It drops the headliner at least a couple inches.

I am going to list the specs for the 21 CC and DC so we can compare when released.

I was in a front-end accident with my current FS Crew Cab truck, and had to have the condenser replaced, it was thin but as big as the radiator. Seeing as how huge the interior of my truck is, it makes sense

Toyota has been cooling their battery packs under the seat using a fan with a filter system for some time. In some of the Tundra videos you can see the intake vent under the driver’s side rear seat.

The orange colour is meant as a warning for techs and shade tree mechanics to avoid possible death from electrocution. All the orange your seeing in the pictures was probably done by Toyota to show the systems easier. The orange colour has been standardized on all hybrid/electric vehicle from all the manufacturers. The little orange rad I suspect is for cooling the inverter of the hybrid system.

I guess I just never really looked at it before. I just didn't remember seeing a secondary radiator that was that big on my truck. Are the seats cooled or just ventilated? that would make a difference as well.

Maybe they went from a woman measuring the room back there to a guy doing it.

Like many here I have not seen the 22 in person but I looked at the 21 Tundra DC and CM and found both to have way more room than needed. In fact I briefly put the 2021 DC on my list because the 6.5 bed is more important to me than the rear seat room. If people are saying there is less room now, I don't care what the official stats are, something changed and I'll agree that it changed for the better for most people.

Personally, I was just looking at the pictures that were posted of Andre sitting back there and it looked a lot more cramped than the current gen. But that could be because the seat was pushed all the way back and the fact that Swears said there is more adjustment available for the seats so it could be pushed back further than we are used to seeing. I wouldn't think they would be shrinking the cab down, but it does give that allusion.

I think part of the problem is the truck grew to 233.6 inches for crew max short bed ( up 3 inches in length from gen 2). If the crew max leg room is indeed smaller, that means the space went to somewhere less functional like the hood length( assuming the short bed length is the same). If they shrunk the crewmax leg room, I would have liked to have seen that in a shorter overall length, or slightly longer short box bed length.

I applaud Toyota adding a standard bed, crewmax configuration, however it increases the length to 245.6 inches, which is longer than I would want. In my area my truck is already longer than most parking spots.

    Agreed.
I doubt that they would have shrunk the cab. I believe that the crew max is every bit as big as the outgoing model. Andre did mention that the driver's seat was all the way back, and he is 6'-2" so sitting in the back seat will make it look a little more cramped than when the driver seat is more forward and a slightly smaller person in the back. I am 6'-4" and my driver seat is not even halfway back; there would be no reason to drive with the driver's seat all the way back. (unless you have a huge beer belly or something)

No it's not. These engine utilize a WAI setup. Furthermore, there isn't even an output connected to the intake tract so how would the air get back to the engine....

I think it will be easier to swap than the current gen. On the current 2.5 gen the Pro grill required a little more work since the sensor is in a different location than the rest of the line-up. On the 2022 they are all in the same place.

There was a drawing in here a few days ago showing the different heat exchangers and it certainly looked like it said they were cooling for the Intercoolers to me.

The Water to Air intercoolers are on the top essentially built into the intake manifolds to reduce IAT and reduce lag from internal volume requirements associated with traditional intercoolers and long intake routing. Those are likely radiators that flow coolant through the turbos to physically cool the turbo/exhaust gases. That larger radiator looks like's lines might be part of the upper coolant loop for the WAI though, somebody posted an updated coolant diagrams a ways back. I believe Sweers said in one of their videos they use a coolant apparatus to physically cool the turbos and control EGT's for longevity of the turbos themselves.

Has Toyota published all of the payload values for the various trim levels? I could have sworn I found it in the owner's manual but cannot find it now.

Not the diagram I am talking about where those radiators were clearly labeled as I said before and I am not about to go back to try and find them in this mess either.

They are what they are and maybe more important they are not what they are not!

My truck’s rear leg room is laughably huge, but I do appreciate the ability to haul a massive amount of stuff in the cab with climate control. Still, if the option of a crew cab with 6” less leg rear room and a 6’ bed and the same overall length, wheelbase, and turning radius as my CM existed, I would have went with that. It’s a big truck, but that turning radius makes it feel smaller, especially when venturing off pavement.

Next Tuesday we find out a good bit (still probably not price. He made a reference and he may know more than we do but time will tell)

I was also thinking of going with the limited. I feel like it gives you a lot of stuff that the SR5 doesn't. Wish the back seat had an option for heated and ventilated seats and I hope I can get from the factory a black out package or color match vs all that chrome. Will want it fully loaded with everything including the hybrid. What's everyone else leaning towards?

I’m thinking I’ll wait couple-few years for them to push the hybrid down to the SR5. Then get Katzkin seats, the dealer lift kit, and trailer mirrors on the CM 6.5’ or DC 8’. Skip the extra tech stuff.
