It would probably work for me but I think my wife has a similar amount of restraint to your family. :p

That seems like a lot of displacement for those vehicles... How would they get that engine to fit under the hoods?

The Coyote would probably be fine if they'd go back to steel oil pans.

The 7.3 is pretty small ford it’s size and is 4” narrower than the 5.0. Apparently it could even fit into the current ranger

There's an idea! My idea for a fun truck would be a RCSB Denali with the 6.2L V8 but a 7.3 in a midsize sounds good, too.

It's all about income, I worked lots of overtime for years and also do most all my own work on my home. For a long time I drove old cars and had to work on them a lot to keep them going, wasn't fun but now seems worth it.

I'm 65 now and been basically debit free for quite a while. My new Tundra (although I do have a loan on it) is part of my reward for that lifestyle and my retirement truck, I owe under 11k on it and expect to pay it off at least two years early.

    And I won't be buying a 2022.

I'll go look at the, but I buy Toyotas because I plan to keep my trucks for 10 years and 150-200,000 miles that means I'll be looking to buy one in 2026. Give them a few years to get the bugs out. V6 turbo with hybrid does not scare me in the least. v8 rumble is nice, but spending half the money on gas is nicer. Especially if gas prices go back up to $3-4 a gallon.

If the power and fuel mileage rumors are true, I'll look at getting one. Unlike most on here I don't care if it's a v8 or a turbo'd 6, if it makes more power, gets better mileage, and remains reliable, I'll be interested.
I burn a full tank (38 gal tank) every week commuting to work and at least half sometimes more depending on what lake I fish on the weekends so better fuel economy would add up. I get 14 mpg to work and back and 8-9 towing. When I tow the camper it's about 6.

If they Tacoma the Tundra I'll end up with an AT4 with the baby duramax. Upper 20's on the highway and lower 20's pulling bass boats has definitely caught my eye.

Have they made an announcements yet about when they are going to be releasing the 2022? Aren't the auto shows going to be starting soon? Not sure how they are going to work this year with covid, but seems like they should be releasing it in the next month. Shouldn't they?

Previously in this thread, it was theorized that it will be revealed during the Superbowl as the Chicago auto show isn't going ahead as far as anyone knows.

Short answer: Probably eventually, but not right now.

So I just bought my 2020 Tundra in March. It's more than 1/2 paid off, and will be completely paid off either this year or early next year.

I upgraded from a 2013 F150; and for *me*, a lot of the complaints about 'no features' fall a bit flat. It's definitely got more features than my F150 had, and moreover, those features are reliable. LOL Plus, while on paper it doesn't seem like tons more power (385HP/401TQ vs the 365HP/385TQ the 5.0 had), it has 4.30 gears to the 3.31 the F150 had, and makes its torque far lower. F150 got an average of 16MPG; 2020 Tundra gets the same or better.

I tow maybe once or twice a year (a 20' camper); the rest of the time, it's a 14' flatbed. The Tundra will easily handle both.

So, do I *want* more/boosted power? I mean hell yeah, who wouldn't? BUT....literally 90% of the reason I went with a Tundra was reliability, and has been established, the Tundra has that in spades. It's got features I want, and the truck for some reason gets one hell of a lot more attention than any vehicle I've ever had.

    So short term, I'm sticking w/my 2020.

its good your happy with your rig, thats all that matters. I have been happy with mine as well until recently, it died in the garage and it took them over a week to fix it and in the middle of it they broke my windshield which still isn't fixed, but Ill get over that.

funny thing, everyone ragged on my ram when I got it saying it would crap out left and right, out of the two trucks, my tundra is the only one that wouldn't start at any time of ownership, I guess Im just unlucky.

but kinda confused on comparing a 2013 F150 to the current features and options type deal. I think most are looking at 2022 tundra vs the newer GMC, Ford, etc.

and your right, average reliability, Toyota should come out on top and thats why the tundra is still around.

Toyota usually nails it right out of the gate, but if it is truly a TT v6 hybrid, there is certainly a lot to go wrong vs a plain V8. I will certainly take one for a drive though thats for sure, Im really interested to see what that thing sounds like, it won't rumble with that small of displacement but it will be interesting to see how they have the exhaust tuned

I’ll probably keep it till I pass it onto my son.

Retired and with COVID still a threat, not many miles get on the truck Reliable is more important tome vs gas milage. I have a couple of BMWs that get 30 mpg plus on the highway. The TUNDRA and house are paid off. Other cars will be paid off in a few months..... so time to go into debt. . Moving to a new home later this year.

    A bunch
There's one huge difference between Ford, GM and Toyota - volume. For Ford and GM the pickups HAVE to sell a lot, without them they'll be out of business. For Toyota the Camry, Corolla, Prius segment is their bread and butter, the Tundra is a luxury for them - and therefore they aren't trying to appeal to every buyer. And more than likely for every buyer who won't get one because of no V8 they'll gain at least one, if not more from a fuel efficient (yet still very powerful) V6 TT.

I love a V8 as much as most people, but it's time to accept turbos and hybrids are going to take over. Now if the V6 TT hybrid only gets 20 MPG at best like the F150 (it may be EPA rated 24, but they almost never reach those ratings) I won't be trading in my 2016, but if it's up in the 30 range as rumored AND it has lots of power then I'll get on the list early on. Instead of fighting this I may as well jump on the bandwagon early.

An acquaintance of mine had an S-10 with an LS9 engine in it. I'm all about hauling @ss but that thing was a death trap.
Also a guy where I work that had a RCSB GMC with a blown 4.8. . I don't know how fast it was but he wanted to run me when I had my camaro and I was like nah, I have nothing to gain. . Lol

Look at what they did with the Sienna and the huge mpg gain by going to the 4cyl hybrid. It's a good indication of the direction the new Tundra will take.

Agreed. What a disappointment the powerboost deal is so far. Good power I guess but the mileage isnt impressive unless you’re hyper-milin’ it. Hopefully Yota is bringing more to the table than Ford.

Otherwise an AT4 with the 3L diesel is looking like it for me.

I remember when my wife and I were expecting our third child 18 years ago. We brought up getting a minivan and my in-laws threatened to disown us, so we got a suburban. Can the moderators ban someone for brining up a minivan?

In 2015 I bought the last year of the 4.0 V6 Tacoma before they came with the new ones, this year I’m excited to say I’m trading it in for the last of the V8 Tundras. There’s an old adage that goes something like..if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, be excellent to each other and party on!!..or something like that..
