So, I’m not trying to be a troll, I promise. I do however need to get some things off my chest. I buy Toyotas for the engineering and what seems like a genuine desire from a manufacturer to please it’s customers and make a great product. That said, I’ve always felt like from the 2nd Gen Tundra onward, Toyota has always simply copied what Ford and Chevy did. It became VERY obvious to me after buying a ‘21… you look at the same Gen Chevy, it’s unmistakable. It’s like instead of making a “cheap Chinese copy” of a Chevy truck, they made a quality reliable copy, lol. Toyota hasn’t stepped outside of the box and done anything groundbreaking with the Tundra, rather, they’ve taken tech and visuals that were already out there and refined them. After watching the video for the 2022 Tundra, it’s obvious yet again, that although I’m sure they’ve engineered a very reliable and capable truck, they haven’t done anything groundbreaking with it. What they HAVE done, however, is make it WAY uglier than it’s ever been. I’m not convinced they didn’t consult Norelco for design support. Don’t get me wrong, I love Toyota and will continue to enjoy all of mine, but it seems like they’ve removed everything that made it a great truck while also making it uglier. Your mood may vary.

Did anyone else notice all the buttons still underneath the steering wheel and driver's left leg?
Actually that engine bay in the TFL video looks huge, way more than what is necessary for that V6, maybe they'll get all the suckers this year, and they we'll see a V8 hybrid for those willing to wait a year or two when Toyota rights this wrong

Had such an opportunity to take some of the market share. Toyota spent 13 years to finally upgrade to match the current f150! Huge failure imo

Link was a few pages back. I think it’s on Toyota’s official website now. Or YouTube. It wasn’t that great.

I hope anyone who buys the 2022 is happy with it. I am perfectly content with my 21 TRD Sport.

How would the hybrid work with 4wd? Does it have an electric motor on one or more of the wheels like some hybrid AWD vehicles?

    A bunch
1 word I'd say about the Tundra - Refinement

Looks like very nice gaps, panels fit together like you'd expect on vehicles that cost this much. Lots of little things like sequential tail lights, no fake vents. Good accessible buttons, wireless carplay/AA.

Big things left to be reviewed is fuel mileage, battery efficiency, and ride comfort.

Was horny for a hybrid. But as I feared the battery under the back seat kills it for me. Need to be able to put two dog kennels in back to back behind the front seats. And that won’t be possible. Good looking truck. That’s a bold move to make the trd pro one configuration and hybrid only!

From what I heard, electric motor is between main motor and trans.

I'm not sure if I wouldn't get into the wrong truck in a parking lot with them looking so unmistakably similar.

Yes, I am making fun of you....if you didn't catch the sarcasm.

Moving to the already rather large 2022 Tundra thread.

You can add all the cool tech-y 14 inch infowhatever crap you want but I guarantee it won’t sound as cool as my V8 with TRD exhaust.

So 1,900 is absolutely bare bones basic model in 2wd.

Considering Pro is 1,450 and is close to current, that means you are probably looking at around 1,350 - 1,400 in your 1794 and Platinum trim.

Current Platinum is about 1,200 payload.

Being that 5% of people actually research their purchase, I am not sure this new truck moves the needle.

Still looks like the Ford PowerBoost has more features and capability. Not sure this moves the needle at all for Toyota if really trying to compete.

The people that are dead set on a V8 are going to roll with GM/Chevy for example. Those that want the turbo technology and supposed fuel mileage will probably still go Ford.

It seems to be a tweezer with no V8. Not sure who you are going to attract away from others with no V8, and an F150 clone that does not look up to snuff compared to it.......

And Fuel tank size, Payload gain is negated if they went (reverted) to a 25 gallon fuel tank.

Exactly! And, you will lose people like me that will move to a domestic 3/4 or 1 ton, just like you did. It will be a huge fail for Toyota if their pricing isn't well below comparable domestics. If they increase their pricing significantly, nothing to keep people in a Tundra.

God I hope not. Most annoying and completely useless feature on a truck that does absolutely zero for economy on the grander scale.

Absolutely. Some kind of locker, memory seats, aluminum pedals, full red interior- all added to the Pro. I’m just not a fan of the power train - but who knows; maybe it will win me over.

I can say this- can you imagine the features in 5-8 years. Add that to the bed options and I am happy with truck so far. Still need to wait on more numbers like price, mpgs, fuel-tank size, curb weight- to get a better idea. But I will be buying one in the future- even if only a stripped down base model. Good day for Toyota.

That's just a head scratcher. Like why under the rear seat? Underseat storage was a big gripe in prior gen, and they went the opposite direction lol
