Do you like to see incompetent actions succeed? This launch is a hot mess.

You guys talking about the new Chevy are a trip. No one mentioned how GM was slow in their rollout of what the next gen truck will be and what the specs are and all of a sudden, you all are smitten with it. Toyota does trickles of photos and spy shots were released ahead of an official announcement and y'all are up in arms about a slow rollout. You guys can't wait 10 fucking days for an official announcement for a competing product to announce and all of a sudden think sales are gonna change. Give me a break. It's not like either one is going to be purchasable in 2021 and if you really care about buying the right truck the first time, you'd wait. If you don't got time to wait, then buy your truck now with the current information you got because it won't matter if inventory is low and options are scarce.

Seriously, you guys crack me up with your armchair speculations and why don't companies do what I want them to do.

I think everyone can agree that most of the frustration is coming from the painfully slow release. And watching GM drop a new release somewhat effortlessly adds some fuel to that fire for sure. But I’m not sure the 2022 will be “incompetent”. Hopefully in a little over a week we will know for sure.
having said that, I don’t really have skin in the game. I’m happy with my 2010 and enjoying the reliability for the last 12 years that we all came to Toyota for. But have to say, I’m excited to see the Tundra finally get competitive (or at least start to be) in other areas than just reliability.

I agree. If I wasn't clear, at this point I'm just complaining about their release strategy. It's been awful.

Agreed with your comments. Problem is GM put out an appealing product. While Toyota is slowly pushing out snippets of product. And what we see so far is not to appealing. The grill of the non-TRD has an old Ford/Family Truckster looking front end. And GM basically killed it with the new redesign of the interior and exterior updates. No matter what Toyota shows the world right now it will be overshadowed by the new GM trucks.
Basically, my current Tundra just went up 10% in value.

Lol, you misunderstood me. I'm talking about the difference between when GM announced the new Chevy and when Toyota is supposed to officially release theirs.

Opinions are subjective, so I'm going to give mine. I like the Tundra looks. I also like the Chevy looks. I also love the look of my current Tundra. I believe that I'm not the only one with this viewpoint.

It's quite different really. GM never really leaked anything or previewed. It was all speculation from owners and influencers. Toyota official has been the ones draggin the Tundra reveal, not the fanbase.

It is. But, you got to admit, because of forum opinions, it's probably made you more anxious than you would normally be. Think of it this way - would you still have the same thought process if you didn't have this thread to see and view other people's opinions on this to think, "Yeah, Toyota, what gives?" instead of, "Huh, looks like I'll have to wait until 2022 to see a release since the pandemic has changed a lot of manufacturer's schedules."

And I completely agree with you. Pretty much essentially what I said. I was just more mentioning the "feelings are facts" and "what I think Toyota should do" comments.

If a manufacturer sold their product on reliability alone, they'd be #4 in the market.

These new GM trucks kill it on paper, and let's be honest, the average new truck buyer, the ones who make the "Big 3" the top 3, is more concerned these days with tech, and how well the vehicle integrates with their smartphone and the resolution of multiple LCD screens. I think the entire industry is pivoting to this phenomenon and hoping people will trade out and upgrade to newer vehicles, motivated by evolving tech, not reliability. Most people will be looking to upgrade in 2-3 years for some insignificant reason, willing to lose money to have wireless Android Auto or a different paint color, before the warranty is up.

That said, without getting into how reliable GM trucks will be, what I've heard is that GM rarely provides loaner vehicles, and if you do get one it could be a Chevy Spark while your $65k truck is in the shop. That, right there, keeps me away from GM, even though I really think I'd like the truck overall.

Those of us that care so much about long term reliability are a statistical minority.
GM is going to do well with this refresh, great time to be a GM truck fanboy

Lol, I agree. This launch is part of the reason why I still have this thread on watch. I'm just annoyed at the "this manufacturer did better." Better than what? What standard does this cater to? Are people still not going to be able to purchase a 2022 in 2022? Did I miss something? No. I'm just seeing more crows squawking.

Same here. Sold my 2020 RST and waiting for the new Tundra to drop. 0% chance I'll ever buy another Chevy. Honestly, I like the exterior of the 3rd gen Tundra better, but I suspect the 4th gen will grow on me though. Especially in something other than that awful red color in the leaked photos.

People are anxious and squawking because Toyota has drug this out, it's literally been 16 years since the current Tundra was released.
People love their Tundras, and have watched several generations of competing trucks go by since late 2006.

And to all y'all, including this forum, categorizing the current Tundra as "3rd Gen" cut that ish out. Don't give Toyota undue credit for a mid model refresh a few years back as a new generation. Nothing changed. The current truck is a 2nd Gen that's been available for 15 years.

Instead of designing a good looking lower trim Tundra and making changes to make the Pro look even better, Toyota seems to do the opposite. Like they designed a good looking Pro and intentionally made the lower trim uglier.

I agree this is longer than the other manufacturers. But, maybe there's a correlation between patience and reliability. Let the impulse buyers buy the latest new trinket since the majority of patient ones will wait anyways.

Just out of curiosity, what issues did you have? I've often said that if it wasn't for the Tundra, I'd likely go Chevrolet/GMC, mainly due to local dealer support.

(Nope, not in the LEAST planning to jump ship LOL - just curious.)

I'm done giving a lazy but historically reliable manufacturer a free pass on all aspects because my truck is reliable. That's silly logic. Tacos get refreshed constantly to stay relevant. Hylander has tons of tech cause no soccer mom is gonna put up with a "basic" and old interior. Those sell well and are reliable.

Tundra and Sequoia have been neglected and pushed off. You want to make excuses for any criticism sent Toyotas way quoting "they run forever" good for you. I expect better.

Your type of thinking kills me. Tons of this "new fangled tech" is in other Toyota and Lexus cars and they work great.

And that's your prerogative. As you can tell, everyone has different priorities and needs. I'm perfectly happy with the Tundra and it has met my needs that none of the other models you listed meet, regardless of reliability.

By your example, why didn't you purchase a Highlander or Taco? Everything has compromises. If you think the competition has a better truck, then go buy one with the information you have and what your needs are. No one's stopping you. Go buy and be happy. Your money, it talks.

I don't think comparing the Tundra/Sequoia to the Taco and their commuter vehicle options really stands. Those dominate in their segments, and even when the Tundra WAS a "world beater" they've never been able to get a big chunk of the market. No business is going to exert maximum effort and resources on a product that just doesn't have the returns to justify it.

I hope for better, but realistically, I cannot expect better when consumers in this segment are so staunchly opposed to their product. So many times people have been told they should have bought an "American" truck, and that stupidity won't be toppled by frequent updates.

    A bunch
Divide those numbers by the rear end gear. They're showing the total gear multiplier factor. Current Tundra is 14.3 to 2.537 (1st is 3.33, 6th is 0.59, multiply them by 4.30).

I'm generally "tolerant" of the strong styling choices lumped onto the Tundra, but that silver colored fu manchu mustache on the non-Pro is killing me.
Good thing I was already set on a Pro, because that's a tough look to tolerate.
