Kinda curious where all the hate for the 2022 Tundra, on the TUNDRAS forum, comes from.

I think someone pointed out earlier how people in other forums all seem to have positive anticipation regarding the 2022.

Seems most of the hate is coming from gen 3 (usually 2021) owners that appear to be going through the 7 stages of grief.

Most seem to be stuck on:
Anger: “it’s ugly and I’m afraid of change”
Or guilt: “man I kinda wish I waited for the 2022 but don’t want to admit it quite yet”

Could be wrong, but there’s likely to be a lot more purely speculative posts from 2021 owners to back this up!

The simplicity and proven reliability of the 3rd gen is what is appealing to many folks, myself included. I personally find the level of technology on new vehicles to be intrusive.

I think your summary behind the "why" is wrong. Toyota takes so long to update or refresh this platform that a lot had very high hopes due to the lengthy time box Yota had to get this thing perfect.

What we have seen so far is an ugly Ford. The disappointment behind that is why your seeing so much unhappiness IMO.

Well, this 2020 owner likes everything I've seen on the new truck except the ugliest grill outside of some of the Lexus grills. The new tundy's maw is not symmetrical. And no, I don't like Picasso. For the record, I don't like the chrome on my 2020 either but at least it's not mangled. The newer shots even got rid of the black plastic crap on the tailgate which removes my other complaint. Colour choices on the pro model aside (red interiors should have fuzzy dice permanently attached to the rearview mirror,) I like the big fancy screen and the rest. Fix the gaping maw and you fix the truck.

Pretty much this. Don't get me wrong - I'm an IT guy by trade and love testing new stuff out. If I knew for damn sure that new features != problems, then awesome....but if working in IT for 20+ years has taught me *ANYTHING* it is that, as the Army likes to say, a plan never survives first contact with the enemy. Having a machine push buttons for 24 zillion repetitions is not the same as your kid beating the # out of that same button...and that extends to anything else.

Will/would I trust Toyota above others? Yes. But will I be the first one to buy one? Nope. Will wait at LEAST a few months.

You know, I couldn't agree more.

I laugh when I hear all these people talk about the durability testing that they do on these courses and in these set environments. When are they (they being any company that is engineering a consumer product) going to start thinking about the most valuable durability testing available and open up the environment to a few soccer moms and their heathens?
Just think. If GM used my wife and kids to test the durability of their new products, I bet the longevity of their products would triple in a single generational refresh.

I like both gens. I like the way the 2021 looks on the outside and the way the 2022 looks on the inside and is updated and on paper looks to have a smooth ride. I bought the 21 and am happy with it and I'm sure I would be happy with the 22. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I just foresee availability and pricing as a brickwall for a 22.

Also love the Lunar Rock color. It's better than super white :crapstorm:

Meeting the EPA standards with a V8 has been the cause of MANY issues in the other manufacturer's V8 engines. Cylinder deactivations and stop start tech have hammered their reliability. Toyota prizes reliability above almost everything else, so it's not going to shock me if they don't have a V8 option. I will be shocked if they DO have one.

It’s interesting to me to read all the hate on the Tacoma. As a Tundra and Tacoma owner, i get it that the Taco does not have the power equal to the Tundra. I also get it that towing could be an issue as well. However, the Tacoma does what it’s designed to do and performs just fine on the road and off-road. I have had absolutely no issue with it not handling what I and my son has thrown at it.

I have no experience with the previous gen so I cannot personally compare. I’m not being flip or critical and you personally may not like the gen and their changes. That’s fine, however from a business standpoint I’m sure Toyota could care less. The Tacoma is the best selling mid-size truck and outsells the Tundra by more than 2 to 1. That’s all they care about.

Maybe it's just jealousy because Tacoma gets some of the good options, like a LSD and manual transmission!

Everyone last year: “man I wish Toyota would finally catch up to the big three and be competitive in this market!! They haven’t changed anything in YEARS. And the tech is so old compared to Ford/gm/dodge. Feels like we just got power windows in this archaic truck”

    *Toyota changes stuff*

Everyone this year: “Why did Toyota change things??? The exterior looks like one of the big 3 trucks and now they are putting tech in it like the big three too!!! What gives!?”

I wonder how many of the leaked photos are real and how many are test mules, maybe
This right here. When designing test cases for medical equipment I had to fight to get tests put in where the button was mashed, then barely hit, then mashed again, or done with wet hands, or a pencil, etc. Even after we had failures on other devices from a doctor who always used his pen to push buttons instead of his finger. Sometimes even holding a button down for 10 seconds has consequences that nobody tested for.

I won't be getting one, I just bought my 19, but even if I was I'd wait at least a year to let the bugs work themselves out.

Yup. Tons of people complained about the buttons "under the dash" so they've moved them. Now they can complain that they are in the way too much. It's the typical consumer attitude.

They did this with the tacoma, the cab was unchanged really on the 3rd gen, and everyone complained. "They went 10 years and couldn't come up with anything different". No they introduce a truly new truck and everyone complains lol.

There are a lot of trolls, and old people that don't like change. I bought my 2020 knowing full well that a new Tundra would be coming in 21/22 - but that's when I needed my truck. I personally like what I've seen so far, at least with the TRD Pro version. We'll see what the full reveal shows.

I don't understand it. I'm excited to see all the new stuff they are doing. Some of it I don't like, but it's nothing to do with a fear of change. Just that I have my personal preferences, and things that don't align with my preferences are less desirable.

Well, my complaint is that they didn't make the back seats big enough for even small humans. If it was big enough inside I'd own one. I planned on it until I could touch the front and back seats at the same time with one hand. Then I bought the Tundra. Crewmax.

people justify there personal opinion that they don’t need to buy a new truck anyway they can. “ I would buy the new tundra but it’s ugly” natural instinct. I think the 3rd gen Tacoma was a flop imo that’s why I’m still in a second gen. And I’m not stoked about the 2nd gen tundra but this new tundra assumed specs sound perfect to me. The truck will look good in person because it’s new, I’m sure of that. And I’m sure of that because I plan to buy one so of course I have a positive opinion.
If I had a 2021 tundra I would hate the new 2022 also, human nature.

I have a '21 and glad for it, though I don't blame anyone who likes or wants the '22 4th Gen. To me it's too different to get excited over and honestly hope it works out, only time will tell. Too much like the song; my truck is red hot and your truck ain't doodly squat. The only constant in this universe is change, a form of automotive entropy.

I have a 2019, so basically a watered down 2021, and I love the new one. I won't be buying one, but I think the look is solid, the interior looks nice. Little :jellydance: about the off road perks it's getting too. I just don't need more than my current truck gives, so it'd be a bad financial move on my part. That, and I love having a V8 again.

My point is that it is a pretty judgmental and crappy thing to say that any 2021 (current gen) owner that isn't salivating over the 2022 is just A) bitter B) jealous C) afraid of change D) all of the above.

That, and dealerships factor in as well. My '13 F150 never left me stranded, but their customer service is for shit. Below is what they said to me when I tried to get warranty coverage for my defroster back glass:

"Well, the defroster ITSELF is covered by warranty...but it's permanently mounted to the back glass which is *NOT* covered under warranty."

I'm a pretty level headed guy, but my exact comment was "That....makes absof*ckinglutely no sense at all." Turns out they were using the wrong part #.

The other Ford/Mazda dealership nearby was the one who told my wife to 'come back if you're serious about buying a vehicle' when she sat down to talk numbers with themn about a CX-9. LOL So yeah...I can get newer/faster stuff, but at the cost of shit customer service? Nope.

That’s a valid point when comparing the two. The back seat in the Tundra crewmax is definitely roomy. Our family of 4 have taken cross country trips in the Tundra and it feels like a Limo. We’ve also taken the Taco on shorter trips and it is fine. Not as roomy as the Tundra but doable.

100% agree with everything you said.

I have a 2018, so I'm even more watered down.

The point of buying these trucks is so you don't have to buy another one for another 10+ years. Debt and payments suck.

Yep, we did the same with my previous truck, or sort of. The guy said "You'll let this fall through over $750?"

Wife said "Look, it's year end. We don't need to buy a truck but you need to sell one, so if it falls through, it's not on our part."

Only time I've seen a salesman legitimately mad. LOL

If 13,000 towing was why some were saying "World Beater" then Chevy just cut Yota's knees out from under them. New Silverado tows 13,300. They have a 4 cylinder pushing a crazy 420lb ft of torque.

If this presser was intentional on Chevy's part to underwhelm Tundra's release hype (Like Jeep did to the Bronco with the 392 press release), then that's pretty funny.

    Watch the TFL now video.
