I had a Focus for about 6 months before it qualified as a lemon. It had a video in jack, I could watch movies on it. It was crappy resolution, but it worked.

Kicking an old post but I've gotta ask where guys come up with silly stuff like this? On what do you base your claim that "you're likely to experience serious issues with the induction system"? After owning several vehicles with intercooled turbochargers I've never had to do one single bit of maintenance to the induction systems, and one of them is right at 400,000 miles now. I have changed the air filter about 10 times in that one, I suppose that's the fault of the turbo also?

Turbos don't wear out any faster than anything else on the vehicle and intercoolers don't get clogged with oil on any properly designed engine. Same thing with leaks and "boost drops off" whatever that means. Sure, it's mechanical and things can break, but they're not any more prone to breakage than the induction system on your 5.7.

This is right up there with worrying about your muffler bearings failing.

If true this would be huge. Most of us are expecting 6 to 8 months delay at least between introduction and the hybrid being available.

Now for you to find out if it's a PHEV or just a regular one

I tried to get this answer for sure but they just do not know enough details yet. He does think he will be able to test drive a truck next month at a dealer show though which if true is also pretty huge!

We spoke the other day at some length and then again Today and I tried pretty hard to pry more details out but I am fairly sure if he knows anything else that he would tell me too.

He is also expecting to get pricing next month.

Uh, I used to be an ASE mechanic....so, I worked on cars for a living throughout the 90's into early 2000's.
And a boosted engine at 400K with no work needed?? Is it an old Ford 7.3 or something?
Your post is condescending of my experience and I think you fancy yourself a SME

The current pool of V35A-FTS engines in service is pretty small being only offered in one single slow selling Lexus sedan. Tough to draw any durability conclusions off of the current data set.

A lot of computer controlled waste gates on modern turbos have a bad habit of becoming rattle traps when the actuating components wear out.

Otherwise the problem I’ve observed with turbo charged engines in service with high mileage is poor maintenance. My employer uses a 3rd party contractor to transport train crews to mines, hotels, etc and this contractor has quite a few Ford Expeditions in service. They see a lot of miles and a lot of idling, most are well north of 300K miles. The Fords with the 3.5L TTV6 do not last as long as the GM Suburban variants with the 5.3L NA V8 do.

This contractor uses the cheapest oil they can buy, and does oil and filter changes on a schedule that isn’t frequent enough on the TTV6’s. At least that is my suspicion.

A turbocharged engine is going to be less tolerant of poor quality lubricants and infrequent change intervals. Same story for a lot of engines with oil pressure activated cam phasing, or displacement on demand.

Enthusiasts like we find on a forum probably won’t have a lot of problems because we usually keep up with OCI’s if not change oil sooner. The problem will be the Schmuckatelli’s of the world who don’t stay on top of these things and when they do remember go to Jiffy Lube for some mystery oil and bargain basement filter. Those folks are going to have problems keeping a TTV6 as trouble free as possible, especially since they’re used to Toyota products that have historically been pretty tolerant of more indifference (with some exceptions like the 3.0L and 3.3L V6).

It’s a solid transmission, no complaints from me. I did a lot of research on it before buying one. Feels similar to the Tundra transmission except it doesn’t try to cook itself on mountain passes.

Didn’t realize that. That stinks. Surprised Allison let them do that, but I guess they wanted the other business. How does that come up in a meeting. We want to put your trademark badge on our truck, but we’re not going to use your transmission in the truck. What happens if the trans is a piece of crap, Allison’s brand suffers. GM’s 1/2 ton 8 and 10 speeds are far from stellar.

Didn’t say it wasn’t a reliable transmission. Just would be nice to have a reliable 8-10 speed to help pick mileage up a little.

Very well put and has been proven in the commercial marine industry as well.
Anyone that runs their oil out to the max OCI or waits until the dipstick has color and consistency of Bunker C will assist in having the Consumer Reports idiots tripping over themselves to reduce the advertised reliability the new motors.
Plugged VCT solenoids due to extended OCI's in some motors is a known issue.
My brother's a mechanic and the shit people bring in for service wondering why it doesn't run or last would blow your mind.
If this is going into the 2022 https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=192 and can get even close to 200,000 it may be a winner.

It’s a 7,000lb brick. I get 15mpg in mine and the ford 7.3 with the 10 speed doesn’t get any better mileage, so I’d rather have the reliable 6l90 tranny any day of the week.

I thought I heard of some guys struggling to tow 7000 lb campers with their 6.6 gassers and wondering if more gears would help.

my brother, RIP, was never a auto/truck enthusiast since his boss mustang. He had is for years but sold it after moving to NYC for awhile. One of his last cars was a Toyota Tercel. That beater would not die, deer wiped out his outside mirror after he stopped for it. The check engine light as far a he was concerned was when you added a quart of oil. He would leave his car by my house while he was traveling and working out of state. I changed the oil on it once, saw clumps of rust coming out…. A fresh batch of oil and it was purring along.

I just wanted to say there are several thoughts of auto maintenance or lack of thoughts. I’d say the general population don’t give a crap as long as it runs and does not leave them stranded. The designers should build a bulletproof no frill car that just runs. My brother hated all the new electrical “features” on the newer cars.

It is rather Tundra like in approach, not the greatest mileage but reliable. I’m getting about 16mpg with commuting in a HD truck, can do a little better on long trips without my trailer. Probably too expensive and overkill to put the “Allison” on the 6.6 gas.

It'll probably be similar to what I've been told the Ecoboost says in the manual: Midgrade is ok to run, but for best performance (MPGs and towing) premium is recommended.

Same for me. I could see someone complaining if they were over 10k in trailer weight though. I think it’s rated for up to a 16k 5th wheel, no way I would go close to that without a diesel.

When GM had the 8.1 it was an option. The 6.6 has 60 more hp and 10 lb/ft more torque then the 8.1 had. Question would be, how much and how many would opt for it.
