Confirmed. But hey, I like the look of the leather wrap, and I bet it's not as much of a pain to clean as the typical auto shifters like the one in my 4R. Basically have to sit down for 15 minutes with toothpicks to get the darn thing nice and clean.

But the guys I've heard of with infotainment issues in their Tundras went to the dealer for one update or TSB or reset or whatever it was that fixed the issue permanently. Whereas if you have issues with your domestic, you get multiple visits to the dealer and the techs shrugging their shoulders or throwing random parts at the problem.

It's definitely the boot on a console shifter for an automatic transmission.

I've been to the dealership with issues with my infortainment system and Apple CarPlay. They have no idea what the issue is, and say it's widespread.

Unfortunately, every brand has issues with electronics.

I wonder how a model without the most advanced tech would sell. So many people buy older used vehicles just because they want a simple truck that doesn’t have so many electronic issues.

I was just saying that tundras have issues too. There are a few posts from time to time with weird issues. Maybe not as widespread, but there are also only 100k tundras sold a year vs about 800k f150s. My wife has a Ford Fusion and in 80k miles has only done oil changes and brake pads/rotors at 70k. It’s never had any other maintenance or repairs.

I would rather buy a more barebones truck but because there are a few higher end things I want I usually have to do tiered upgrades that add a whole bunch of stuff I do not want. My first truck had not roof liner and was just a steel top. Only problem I ever had with that was when it would pour, like monsoon rain, it would sound like a drum. But that was cool too in its own way.

I can't stand that auto manufacturers are trying to stuff so much stuff into the infotainment screen. We already have enough issues with distracted drivers. /OldManRant

I use that screen to watch "Idiots in Cars" videos on youtube while I am driving 70mph in snow and on the phone with the ol' lady.

I wish I could play videos on my infotainment system; would give me something to do in the truck while the wife goes shopping.

Yeah just doesn't seem as prevalent in the vehicles Ford puts a lot of money and reputation into.

Yeah I should have clarified it as well. Either way transmission tuning and logic is something GM has been consistently better at than Ford.

OK so I have not been reading this thread since the first few days of it and this may be old news but I just learned that they are looking to release these with the V6-TT AND a Hybrid Version at the same time.

A friend of mine who is positioned to have this as reliable info has been taunting me and we have been arguing about it for a few days now and I have no reason to think he is making it up.

They started the whole Hybrid thing and the Hybrid has quickly become one of the most reliable drivetrain that has ever lived really and they are going to bring it to the Mainstream again in the new Tundra I think and soon.

Hope this is reliable new news !

He says overall the truck looks like a huge Taco too.

When I was negotiating to buy my truck the salesman kept coming back to the Tundra's reliability, because besides resale that's pretty much all they got, right?

Then I sit down to talk to the finance guy and he brings up the extended warranty. Told me he highly recommended it because with all the electronics it was pretty likely there would be a costly problem.

    I had to chuckle.

Honestly, the only time I have issues with the infotainment system is with CarPlay - and there's a very good chance that's Apple's fault. When I unplug my phone it works perfectly fine, and the only time I really have issues is when talking on the phone through CarPlay while driving. If I switch it over to Bluetooth I have no problems.

Can't say if it is an Apple problem or not, but all my Carplay apps work fine with the Alpine HU in my Tundra...except Waze. Waze seems to have trouble updating my location sometimes when Apple Maps and Google Maps have no problem.

LOL!! Same story when I bought my last 4Runner. I mean it was a 2011 4Runner with 140,000 miles. No need to buy the extended warranty. The ONLY thing that has gone out is the A/C blower motor needed replaced because I didn't bother to check the cabin air filter. Darn thing was clogged with leaves and some of them got to the plastic fan. $60 blower from RockAuto, 3 bolts, 20 minutes and half a beer was all it took to fix it.
