It isn’t condescending if it’s factual.

Low profile tires serve no useful function on a vehicle designed and intended for hauling, use on rough roads, or use off road. If the goal is better on road handling, buy something other than a truck or body on frame SUV. Low profile tires on big wheels aren’t turning a pickup truck into a canyon carving sports car. They just turn it into a much less useful truck that still handles twisty roads pretty much as poorly as before.

Larger than stock off road tires such as 35”s or 37”s while compromising on road performance due to all that extra sidewall height have advantages on a truck or SUV that is frequently used off road. The truck or SUV will usually be demonstrably better off road with the extra ground clearance, and better ride afforded by the larger tire which is large enough to air down.

If you don’t like the characterization of people who choose to put giant wheels on a pickup and wrap low profile tires around them as morons, well too bad. Sometimes people make obviously stupid decisions, and it is far past time for them to be ridiculed for those stupid decisions.

So the truck gods deemed you an expert for all things trucks. Your judge and jury for who is smart and who is not.. Got it.:bowdown:. That is the kind of sound logic I look for in all well informed individuals.

I'll make note of it for future reference.

You should in this instance because low profile tires are stupid on a truck or SUV, they serve no useful function and create problems instead.

    For example:

If your goal is to make a truck ride worse, still not handle, and be at risk of flat tires and broken wheels if you try to off road it, these wheels can be yours for around $3,500.00.

Free flat brim hat and vape pen (aka Robot Cock) included.

Guys do the same thing to quads/side by sides and wonder why they get a pinch flat??
To each their own I suppose. I'll probably have 20" Sport wheels I'd be happy to trade for 18" Pro's

Broken wheels were always really fun for the service writers at the BMW dealer I worked at years ago. Indignant X5 owners being told that warranty doesn’t cover road hazards or abuse. My favorite was a guy with a 7 Series car who had the thinnest “tires” I have ever seen who hit a pot hole and destroyed one of his aftermarket wheels. He was so pissed we wouldn’t even attempt to fix it.

Hell ya! My 2015 pro only has 87k on it. I also put more in parts and labor into it than I paid for it new. So she’s not going anywhere.

I’m confident the turbo engineering will be superior to Ford. With that said, I understand there may be more issues that could arise from the twin turbo. But, I’m a 1-150,000 mile tops guy and feel confident I can get that with reliability out of any Toyota.

I agree and in that situation you have the best of both worlds:thumbsup: Wonder if the twin screws are made by Toyota?

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty much on the same page, but playing devil's advocate:

When any vehicle gets to 200K, even the fabled Toyotas, having to dig into it reveals a conundrum of several other parts breaking along the way or being discovered as "on the way out".

At 200K, even a Toyota, it is debatable if it is financially justifiable to throw several $K at it for what would amount to an overhaul.

The temptation to use aftermarket (as in non-Toyota OEM stuff like from O-Reilly's, not quality performance gear) is strong when a vehicle is that old, nothing kills a good, old, reliable vehicle quicker than cheap aftermarket repair parts. And I can guarantee that the Toyota parts will be big $$$ and it'll be tempting to buy "equivalents".

I've got a 15 y/o truck, been supremely reliable and trusty all these years. It is debatable if I even "need" a new truck, truth be told it could use $4K in refurbishment (OEM costs) but I could also ignore it. My auto insurance company keeps suggesting I lower my insurance coverage on it (full coverage, low deductibles) because they don't think it makes sense for such an old vehicle, so if it were a turbo truck, at this point I'd be on the fence about fixing it too.

I read through some of those ratings and its pretty apparent the values are calculated by mfg ratings on EPA. For example they have the EB F150 at 17/24 and factor annual gas usage based off that. Yet a quick search through fuelly where you have real world numbers from real owners shows an actual average closer to 17 mpg total. The Tundra would obviously remain pretty low in the ratings regardless of that, but it just looks like they have some pretty clear flaws in how they go about figuring that rating out.

I have put thousands into my 2007 Tacoma over the years keeping it reliable and trouble free. It has 165k and most of the underside has better then factory parts. When you not making payments on your truck spending a thousand here and there doesn’t seem bad to me. And I always upgrade parts or at the very least use oem parts. My Tacoma will be alive for a long time. This new tundra shouldn’t be any different. But trouble free for the first 100k miles is what I would expect from Toyota.

This is true. It’s one polluting ass SOB, thank goodness the crooks haven’t stolen my cats yet.

Articles like that one are the reason we are going to see a twin turbo six and a hybrid tundra.

I feel that the fact it is happening is very well documented and a known fact at this point but when people bring up the reasons or deny it becomes political I do not care about your personal opinions on the subject but if you have some supporting evidence it is not happening I would love to hear it because frankly I would love some good news. But either way I do not want it here.
Thank you. It has been politicized and it is tiring.

Well, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I would never expect anyone to take my word for anything, unless I happen to be an expert in the subject matter and even then I would cite other experts. Thus, if I’m going to say something that’s out of my realm of expertise then I always try to backup my statement With a reliable, peer reviewed, source from someone who is an expert, in this case NOAA.

I am in no way attacking you personally and I apologize if it came off that way. I was just pointing out that the earth is indeed getting warmer which is a factual, science based statement. There’s no politics or opinion involved, just the temperature numbers, which are unfortunately climbing.

This is the whole reason why we are going to have the twin turbo six, hybrids and electric trucks. I am 100% on board with this and I am voting with my wallet to help alleviate the problem hand in hand with Toyota’s phenomenal engineers. Toyota has been a leader in green tech in the sector for as long as hybrid tech has existed. They are kicking tail.

I put in an order as soon as they would let me. I would absolute love to have some lower running costs as well and think in the short term if I’ve an keep my foot out of it it will cost less. I would doubt in the long term that this remains the case due to probable higher maintenance costs associated with a more complex machine. That said, I would bet the time horizon for a lot of folks here would be in the sweet spot of running costs before they upgraded to a newer model.

For those that care…in Hawaii there’s only 1 Toyota dealer so if you wish to place an order for a 2022 Pro, they are collecting a wallet puckering $3,000 up front to get into the raffle. Seriously, 3 grand to maybe get picked out of hat to get one delivered.

    Hooray?
