Pricing increases in Australia for the LC 300 may hint at the increases we can expect for the new Tundra:
    https://www.drive.com.au/news/2022-toyota-landcruiser-300-series-price-and-specs/
    $1 AU = $0.74 US
So maybe an average of $6,600 US increase? I can deal with that.

I think the Land Cruiser had a bit of a class change from Basic Old-School Rugged Reliable SUV to Luxury SUV, while the Tundra will be more of a same thing; just new model with some tech upgrades etc.
i.e. the Land Cruiser's increase would be percentage-wise higher than the Tundra's.
    I hope, at least.

Just to jump in on the Titan XD, Nissan didn't train their technicians properly on how to fix the new diesel engine they were now serving. They also created contracts to disallow the existing Cummins repair shops from touching anything that rolled in their shop with a Nissan badge.

Nissan killed their diesel offering before it even launched by not planning on supporting it. I don't understand what goes on in the minds of big automakers. Hell, even the small ones like Mazda that rolled out a diesel in the US for 1 year before axing it, and that was after 5+ years of threatening to sell diesel in the US!

While I will agree that the Cummins was a big fail in the Titan, I can tell you that you're off the mark with several of you assumptions.

First off, let me say that I have owned six Toyota trucks, two of them being Tundras (including my '01 pictured below, which I owned for 11 years). There's currently a '21 Titan XD, '17 4Runner and an '03 Tacoma sitting in our garage.

I recently traded my '17 GMC 2500HD Denali Duramax in on a '21 Titan XD Platinum Reserve 5.6L gas burner and it was the best thing I've done in a while.

If you think the 5.6L is underpowered, you obviously haven't driven an XD gas burner. I can tell you that it will run circles around my old '08 Tundra and outpulls my best friend's current '18 Tundra Platinum. We both own the exact same model and year travel trailers and the joke is that I need to follow to help push his Tundra up the hills.

Payload you say? It has 300 lbs less payload than my 3/4-ton GMC and way more most Tundras to date. The trim level on my Platinum Reserve is far nicer than my Denali had and it still has 1,708 lbs of payload. Obviously the Duramax had way more torque and the engine brake was gold, but that truck is my first and last GM product. It was in the shop six times with under 400 miles on it, one of which was to pull the transmission and replace the torque converter. The day I pulled it out of the shop to take it in for trade it was still leaking oil on the concrete, that started on day #1 with 58 miles on it.....

The 9-speed in the Titan is wonderful, I'm sure it isn't as robust as my last Allison, but I prefer driving the Titan hands down.

Now is the Titan perfect? Absolutely not, none of them are. For one, whoever thought that putting a 26-gallon tank in a full sized truck was a good idea deserves 1,000 kicks to the taint.....and yes, I do get to hear crap from my buddy with the Tundra on every trip because his has a 38 gallon tank. Also, the extendable towing mirrors do not power fold, which is goofy. But all in all it's a very solid truck with some great features.

If Toyota would ever build a truck with a decent payload, I'm talking crew cab, Platinum level, 4WD then I'd be back in one in a heartbeat.......but I'm afraid the towing community will be deeply disappointed later this year once again.

While I'm definitely no Nissan fanboy, I think unless you've personally driven a new generation XD, you really have no idea what they're about.

Yup, bought a 2007 Titan SE 4x4 Big Tow with 20k miles, off-lease for $23k before taxes in 2009. Window sticker was $45k. I had initially gone out to buy a slightly used Tacoma.
    Best vehicle I've ever owned.
    I like depreciation when I benefit! That's why I won't buy a new Nissan!

They definitely decompose, and I'd pay significantly less for a decomposed crab than I would for a fresh one.

I was looking at used titan and XD back in 19, they were dirt cheap, for platinum Reserve or the pro 4x going for 30-40k…when new it was like 60-70

Silverado reveal is September 9th. Let's see if Toyota will drop everything on the tundra on or right after to steal their thunder

I'm sure they depreciate whoever they're on. Just ask any, uh, 'lady of the night' downtown. ;)

that swings both ways. If the Silverado is awesome, then toyota looks like an also ran, especially when they have less features.

from a pure marketing view, the tundra delayed release puts them behind a little IMO. This thing should have come out 1-2 years ago and then that would be before the powerboost and everyone else's new trucks. I think that was the origional plan was about a year or more ago

but it is what it is, just release the damn thing already.

Are there any expected changes to the Silverado other than a light facelift? It's a new platform as of 2019 right?

My guess is the focus will be on the interior. The GMC already looks fantastic and the while I find the front of the Chevy gross, it just went under major changes that made it that way, both of them did, actually.

The Silverado is getting a much needed interior revision, rumors and spy pics show it to be carrying design cues from the new Tahoe interior. I highly doubt there'll be any other significant changes

Do you guys think there is anything to toyota putting these diesel engine explanation videos up? Not trying to be the "If Toyota put a diesel in a Tundra" guy, but seriously if they did the waitlist would be years.

Also, sorry if this is a repeat question.

I was getting the oil changed on my wife’s Highlander and was speaking to my buddy that works there. He has always been a straight shooter and he said there are only a few things that they REALLY know. There are going to be two engine choices and the one is much more powerful than the 5.7. In regards to specs they don’t know. And he was hoping to have allocation by the end of November.

Additionally he had a corporate friend actually drive one (all cover up in the black plastic) and said it was impressive.

Take any of this for what it is worth…

I heard they are giving you an extra set of lifters in lieu of floor mats. it's a $400 option but probably a smart buy.

Heck they even disabled the cylinder deactivation for me so it hits on all 8 all the time but still gets 22mpg highway cruising at 70-75

toyota still giving the free oil for all those leaking engines out there, coating those rusting frames and components to try to make em last longer or at least till the AIP valves and banks freeze up or the mice eat that yummy soy based coated wiring up?

    lol

I think all cars since the 90's use soy based wiring thanks to the epa as the old oil based wiring was "bad" for the environment. I have had 17 Toyotas since 1976 and never had one leak oil (or anything else) and no major issues with any except a trans replaced under warranty on a 2007 Camry. Can't say anything good about a chevy so I won't say anything at all. Hope you bought the extended warranty

Toyota dealerships across the country have service centers full of toyotas being worked on, just like every other brand dealership. Toyotas are not immune to failures, there are lots of threads on this board alone with folks asking about issues.

Never have bought a extended warranty for any vehicle I have owned, I figure if it breaks its going to within the first year.

Know what one of the best trucks I have ever owned was, and one I kept the longest? A 1994 Dodge ram 1/2 ton, 318/auto 2 wheel drive regular cab long bed. SLT.

Kept that one from 1994 thru 2002, that was one good truck. daily driver.

I wont get into a pissing match between gm and toyota, I have owned both, know the pros and cons of each.

Have a nice day, I do hope the 2022 model is a hit tho.

I have no doubt that your old Dodge was great. Too bad nobody builds them like they use to. Have never owned a GM product (or Fiat) never will but I'm sure MOST would agree that overall Toyotas have been the most reliable/trouble free of all manufacturers and have the best resale. You may not agree but I think history speaks for its self. I am sure Toyotas quality (like most) is not as good as it once was but we all agree that competition is good for all of us. Have not read this whole thread so not sure what GM product you have but hope it serves you well. Good luck and cheers

Back in the 90's I was an ASE tech, first I worked at a Honda dealership. After a few years I went to a Cadillac dealer and earned my "Mr. Goodwrench" sleeve patch.

There is a stark contrast of what goes on behind the scenes of (admittedly, in the 1990's, I will admit things are likely different now) a GM service dept. and a Honda service dept.

Honda: Fix customer negligence (like ripping open an oil pan on a construction barricade and continuing to drive with the "genie light on!), perform PDIs on new cars, install OEM AC kits (remember those days when a dealer would install the AC?) 15K mile valve adjustments, 60K mile timing belts, oil changes, brakes, carburetor adjustments, etc.

GM: In addition to the above, an entire wall of TSBs and service campaigns next to the service dispatcher, faulty wiring harnesses, 4100HT, V8-6-4 engines, ALL the Northstar issues including starters, head gaskets, modular oil pan leaks, etc. In the 90's it is quite possible that there were far more Hondas on the road than Cadillacs, but the Cadillac service dept. had 2x more techs, with clearly defined specialties, they had techs just for transmissions, brakes, suspension, AC, driveability, etc because each tech could be plenty busy. At Honda, they had fewer techs and all pretty much performed the same tasks.

I never worked at Toyota, and in 2021 I'm more likely to buy a Cadillac than a Honda, so yeah, things may have changed a bit. But I wouldn't buy a low-end GM because that dealer where you buy a $60K truck from also has to deal with low/no credit customers in their $20K CUVs and whatever low-end appliances Chevy peddles these days. I'd be more likely to at least buy a GMC if I wanted a GM vehicle.

I guess since this isn't a GM forum, it's OK to further pile-on the Tahoe Z71?

Go to the 6:50 mark in this video and see how a new Tahoe Z71 gets stuck on a dirt road (that Priuses drive on all the time!)
