Why wouldn't that be legal? I've seen it done several times.

Yeah it just looks like it shouldn’t be legal. Maybe Minnesota allows it?

Headlight obstruction (safety issue) and it could definitely be argued that it’s an obstruction for drivers view. That’s not a small item like a bicycle, cooler, or fishing pole mount. Your headlights would not penetrate past that.

On the plus side for that guy with a big slide in, a sail boat on the hitch, and a Ducati strapped to the front axle I’ll bet that F-450 rides like an old Cadillac.

Why wouldn’t that guy just buy a longer boat trailer and mount his motorcycle in front of the boat?

Beats me. My guess is because it’s cheaper to buy a MotoTote and rig it up on the front of the truck than buying a new trailer for the boat.

This - in fact, unless I'm going over a SERIOUS washboard gravel road (which is not all that hard to do where I live lol), I don't notice an appreciable difference between my Tundra and the previous F150 I had. I can tell you the Tundra rides far better than my previous F150.

Nice Ducati Multistrada on the front of that F-450. I carry mine on a rear bumper rack like that on my Land Cruiser or in the bed of my Tundra.

This is a big deal if you've ever played with old cars. That boxed stuff just holds moisture and hides corrosion.

Had a 98 Tacoma that was hit in the rear and me and my dad fixed the frame on. We had to cut it all apart and there was piles of dirt in there....the frame was so rusted out we should have just thrown it away.

It’s easier to bolt bodies onto a c channel and I would imagine that they are cheaper to make. This is my understanding of why semis and things are not boxed. For passenger vehicle and light trucks a boxed frame is a better design as you can get a stronger frame with less material so it’s lighter. This allows the suspension to do the work instead of frame becoming part of the suspension. This makes for a better ride. This was why Toyota went boxed in the first place. Too bad Delta did such a shit job building those frames

    That. Is. Badass.

I've got a buddy who does that. Just moved to the Ford from a Chevy HD, says that the Ford is lightyears better than the Chevy, and has 500K miles between the two with no overheating issues. He pulls a 36' trailer with a Civil War Cannon in it and goes to all kinds of reenactments, etc.

Hopefully, Toyota does something new. Box frame and fill with space grade foam insulation.

Or even carbon reinforced latter frame. Toyota has the carbon fiber loom technology.

Not sure, think 2012 or so, and was a 3500 HD Diesel. My uncle was a Horse trainer/competitor for years (Reining/working/barrel racing) and towed a 5th wheel 6 horse trailer with living area. He said the same, that his Fords were much better overall for reliability and robustness of chassis and running gear. He put 75-100K a year on his trucks, and with the GM products was constantly replacing axles, bearings, transfer cases, u joints, driveshafts, brakes, but on the Ford, never a thing other than routine maintenance. Ford has the HD product down.

On the issue of open C VS Boxed frame, the reason they use Open C on HD applications is that the frame gives more flex to manage and distribute the load, where boxed frames being more rigid puts all the work on the suspension. It is a system with variables. Rigid is not always better. A boxed frame makes sense on a LD truck, less so on an HD. The idea that open C is less robust or capable than a boxed is nonsense, but hey this is Tundras.com, and this thread in particular is filled with nonsense. ;)

Hopefully the new Tundra's frame will be strong enough to set one of these up like the current one is.
