That article is from New Zealand. I'd say we are as likely to get the TT V8 as we are a Hilux. I hope I'm wrong, because I love V8s, but I also don't really have a dog in the fight. My 2019 is gonna be with me until I die, hopefully.

That's what I had heard too. I didn't think anything of either of these articles, especially since they are from outside the US. However, if you consider them together, it might give some hope they are just letting everyone think they are killing all V8's.

The only concern I have with the hybrid is the transmission. I had a Hybrid Camry and it wasn't bad, but I could see it being a bad choice with the eCVT in a truck. The all wheel drive of the Highlander isn't the greatest either. Only time will tell.

I believe that one, and I don't have a dog in the fight either. If they keep a V8 option, it'll be the NA 5.7L.

If turbocharging permits Toyota to reduce naturally aspirated 5.7L displacement power down to 3.5L to 4.0L, why would they keep that reduced turbo displacement in eight cylinders? The additional two cylinders over a V6 is 25% more rotating parts, rotating mass, friction, and other potential problems with no advantage except maybe a little smoother. :notsure:

This was a Toyota management ("this is off the record") head fake to get rid of persistent, pestering New Zealand journalist. :D

I am sure this redesign is going to be like the 2007 change. It's going to be a shock to the world that becomes a 15 year cycle with minor changes over time.

A factory turbo v8 is the only way I’d even consider an “upgrade” and trade in my 5.7

Well if v8tt comes, I'll strip my truck and trade it in for '22. The only reason I got a '20 due to the v6 for '21, then they pushed it to '22.

I’m not sure if this will happen. This engine was originally setup for the Lexus LCF which would have been a $200k vehicle. As of last week the car now has now been cancelled. If this engine does come it will be probably be a $70k trd pro version comparable to a raptor version as some have suggested around 2025.

    Bring back the V-12s!

Wait, thought I was on a F1 site. Anyways, I won't believe anything until I see the truck on the showroom floor. With the Covid-19 I wont be surprised if the new Tundra gets pushed back to 2023.

Would be great if it’s true. Been looking to get a Tundra. Currently returning my car to stock to sell it. Don’t think I can wait a year to get one.

I always thought the next gen would get the 3.5L TT from the LS.

Yep. What I'm thinking. IIRC that engine is already in the stable, proven, has a hybrid version (Atkinson cycle), tooled, and ready to go. A new, unproven design shared with a canceled luxury car?...Toyota isn't making a profit where GM can't by being financially stupid.

I can’t see them giving up the V8, especially if they want sell to folks who tow stuff.
Ok, maybe if they finally launch a diesel version. Fun to see the tundra duelly pic!

Ah... nope. Besides, if MPG is a concern you'd be better off with a smaller vehicle.

I always thought Ford ripped the 3rd gen Tacoma looks, to the point I used to call it the Ford Tacoma

Would love to know if these renderings are based on some "inside" knowledge or just a conglomeration of current styling elements.

Yep...Summarized the whole article in the first paragraph: "There’ve been countless rumors about the truck, though we don’t have a clue as to how it’ll look."

That rendering doesn't have enough change to be next generation...maybe it's Gen2.75.
