But you are talking to a group of people that follow Toyota. Toyota is far from the leader in technology. People here do not realize Ford has been doing this I believe since around 2012? Or whenever their first Ecoboost came out.

Same. I'd rather a truck be whisper quiet because a v8 with a cam made for a truck sounds like a plappy pile of dogshit.
The trd exhaust is fine. Makes a little noise but not too loud to sound awful.

Don’t want to listen to a droning exhaust in the cabin and have to talk loud for anyone to hear…. gets old. Off road tires are the same thing unless off road all the time.

Maybe I'm simple but even the stock exhaust in my truck sounds good to me.

Toyota once again has dragged their feet so much. Hopefully they fire Sweers. I get that Toyota only gives him a limited budget, but I mean cmon.

He is just recycling truck designs starting with the 2019 Sierra, and culminating with the 2500 grille.

I've never been too happy with the 2nd gen's look, not the original or the refresh. Maybe its better they allow domestic design to influence their latest model rather than be left to their own interpretation of an American truck.

Agreed. Never understood the loud exhaust vibe. And more importantly this—

The spaghetti tangle is what you get with a TTV6 with twin intercoolers, AC, PS, trans cooler and emissions requirements. Just will be a busy engine bay. I'll be in the market and that is what we will have to buy because that is what will be offered. I'll have my spray bottle of Aerospace 303 handy and give those 100 hoses a good soaking at least once per year. Rubber absolutely loves 303, I use about a gallon per year on the vehicles. Rubber soaks it in like a sponge and keeps anything rubber soft and supple. Door seals, radiator hoses, CV boots, whatever. Spray it on heavy and let it soak in. RV rubber roofs love 303.
I'll have a TTV6 maybe by 2026 or so if I want to update this '19 Sequoia. That's what will be offered so that's what I'll have to buy. I'll have the engine cover off and the 303 spray bottle deployed right away. Dry environments like Colorado rubber shrinks and cracks, loses flexibility.
High-end trims will certainly be in the 60's and 70's same as any manufacturer, that's how it works. Toyota won't price themselves out of the market with lower trims. Same as it has always been from Toyota, buy a lower trim and aftermarket it as you please.

Thicker radiators with more cooling tubes would work but then you have a longer frontend and engine bay. Engineering nightmare.

Spy shot of the 2038 LandCruiser. The 2038 Tundra could have a similar front end and powertrain.

What do you want Toyota to do? Put in rocket boosters? Pickups are big square boxes, only so much they can do to not look similar to other trucks. And it looks far more like a Tacoma than any other truck, it fits in with Toyota's current styling cues.

Why does it matter if someone else does a design or spec first? The 5.7 must have been absolute crap, V8's have been in pickups for decades based on what you're saying

If the release gets pushed back to Q1 then you can say they dragged their feet (not unexpected if they do, chip shortage and whatnot) since Q4 release has been 'leaked' for well over a year. We're at about 3-4 months at least from being able to purchase a 2022 Tundra based on timelines from well over a year ago, so what are they dragging their feet about? No need to release info stupid early, wait until they can get a large group of media together and get the word out to average people. Tundras.com is not the main target for Toyota to sell the Tundra to.

Do the 4Runner or Taco have chrome? Since they appear to be bringing that design language over I would expect similar grille treatments.

Toyota has plenty of technology and would be considered leaders in many arenas. Hybrid tech being one of them. They have had twin turbos V6 engines out for a while now. Lexus has all the tech you want. They just don’t roll it into their truck lines.

It has the right non functional lifted bro-dozer vibe. This is what the truck will look like in Gillette, WY as driven by flat brim hat dudes that vape.

take off the logo and change the wheel tire combo to something with more sidewall and less complicated on wheel design and I’ll drive it….gladly.

For the longest time trucks had no tech; like church pew for a seat, a steering wheel and a shifter, and that's it. Now trucks have become 'cool' to have and not just a tool and have got super technical and plushy. Toyota still seems to have a bit of the old thinking that a truck is just supposed to work, not be flashy (which I really like) but that means a few (and most bloggers) love to shit on Toyota.

If those like that can't appreciate a simple truck, go buy your Ford, trade it in every 2-3 years, but don't complain when you roll snake eyes and have no vehicle for a week or two.

There is something to be said for that. This past year I would not want to have been in a position where I needed to buy a vehicle because mine was a pile of crap that needed to go away. That is a big advantage to buying a Toyota or other reliable vehicle and keeping up on maintenance. You’re very very unlikely to have a problem big enough to sideline the car or truck if you’re driving a Toyota.

Having that solid reliable car or truck gives you the ability to make it through lean times, be it lean supply of new cars and trucks; or lean times in your life. A reliable car or truck won’t solve every problem, but it will sure as hell help you avoid the problem of losing automotive mobility. A problem you don’t develop is even better than one you manage to solve.

I agree. There are some things I think they really need to step up on though. Like a high quality sound system. Better screen with Car play and more comfortable seats but I don’t need most of the other stuff.
