Just for comparison my 2020 F250 with the 6.2 gas engine has a payload of 3,299lbs

That sounds right as I looked at a 6.2 and 7.3 also and remember payload compared to GM as close to the same. Not enough difference in what I Was going to be doing.

Tow / haul I get as I don’t do that either , but I’m not sure I understand why you would drop a gear on the interstate . When I use the gear selector I select 8 gears so the transmission shifts normally to 8th but doesn’t activate “eco mode” which is cylinder deactivation .
I get that it’s crappy to have to do that every time you put the truck in drive but I’m with you on the long term reliability ( right or wrong ) I prefer having all 8 cylinders there .
As far as fuel economy goes I’ve gotten 26 MPG out of mine but our speed limit is only 60 MPH around here so that helps quite a bit .
From what I’ve read on this forum I do respect your point of views Colorado TJ .

I thought that too, then I drove the truck and got the same fuel economy or lack thereof. We've both gotten similar mileage to each other when driving our other trucks. :notsure:

I thought if you put a GM in L6/8/10 (depending on your transmission), it would still drop cylinders.

    A bunch
So by legal definitions it is a class 3 (GVWR 10000 to 14000), or more commonly known as a 1 ton. And in some areas as @Midmo_tundra pointed out this can cause legal issues. We're just pointing it out so those who are doing their research (for personal or commercial purposes) don't think they can treat a GM 2500 the same as a half ton. If I had consistent use for more payload or towing I'd be in a 1 ton myself since in Alberta there's no additional restrictions for personal Class 3 trucks (commercial there should be, but if you just haul a regular trailer or just payload the cops at the inspection stations won't go and get you when you skip by).

Kinda on topic with this though, in Alberta a coworker - in a 1 ton with 2 quads on a sled deck - got pulled over by a cop for speeding, this cop happened to have a DOT (forget what they're called in Alberta) inspector with him; so while they had him pulled over for speeding they figured they may as well do a commercial inspection, since we drove 1 tons (and vehicles over 10000 lbs GVWR have different regulations) he got hit with a lot of penalties - we didn't do log books, and his straps had loosened slightly (they have to be tighter than tight, any play is an issue) were 2 of the penalties he got hit with, and in the end he got fined somewhere in the $3-4k range, because he was driving a vehicle of over 10000 lbs GVWR.

The deal breaker for any GM product should be the remembrance of how they took an immense amount of taxpayer money and never paid it back. That and closing plants in the US to make new plants over seas. GM can suck it!

The gas tank is actually only 24 gallons, they decreased it from ~26 on the previous generation to 24 on 2019+ crew cabs.

Exactly my thoughts haha. Still blows my mind GM doesn’t offer a 30+ gallon optional tank on the 1500s

We, as a small business who really struggled during the recession had a really hard time buying a gm product because of the bail out. But after being burned by our fords and rams having an abysmally small gas tank (22 gallons) for a big thristy v8, it was the only option left. If we could have found a bigger aftermarket tank for the ram we would have bought another one, but there isn’t anything out there for the gas 3/4 tons.

I’ve noticed that. The aftermarket options for gas 3/4 tons is very very small. I think the Ram has a 31 gallon tank now regardless of bed length, but that’s still small. At least ford puts in a 48 gallon tank in long bed trucks. Not sure about Chevy.

Our 2012&2013 Fords 6.7 had 45 gallon tanks (diesel)
Our new 2019 ram 6.7 has a 50 gallon tank (diesel)
Our new 2019 ram 6.4 has a 22 gallon tank (gas)
Our new 2020 Chevy 6.6 has a 38 gallon tank (gas)

We got burned buy the ram gas truck and didn’t think any company would put that small of a tank on a cab a chassis, especially after being used to 40 gallon plus tanks on our diesel trucks.
