To be 6th you have to post the photoshopped picture and act like you are the first to discover it and post it. Also have to act like it’s a legitimate leaked photo.

I can't believe how obsessed so many are over this. We can't even really tell what this thing looks like and people are freaking out.

During my drivers Ed the teacher said “floor it” except it was a civic and I didn’t take her seriously until I saw how little power it had

If you do the same things to your new Ford that you did to your Tundra, and drive the same you are in for a big shock on the fuel mileage (quite obvious from your other posts you don't have the most fuel efficient style - I floor it quite a bit and still get 14 MPG). The hybrid part can only do so much, I'd be quite surprised if you get to 15 MPG. Keep it stock and drive with a light foot and maybe 24 is possible (highly unlikely given Ford's history of tuning for the best EPA numbers, not real world driving).

lol Ford’s look way more classic than that Bane grille.

my father in law’s 07 Tundra only has 115k miles and is starting to give him starter, ac, and transmission issues.

So who is planning to upgrade to the new 2022 Tundra?
I have no plans on upgrading my truck, I have a 2018, but I am looking towards a updated Sequoia. We also have a 2016 Lexus 570 with the 5.7 V8 engine but overtime it seems small. Hope they make a large Sequoia like Suburban size. Current generation has a 26 gallon tank so it’s not even a option for us.

My father in law has a 2018 Tundra and the tie rods need replacing and it needs a wheel alignment. It only has 20K on the OD. Peice of junk.

This was after driving in the ditch after he fell asleep.

Well I think most agree that rendering of a bastardized Titan is hideous. But I doubt Toyota strays too much on the design from the current model. Just looking at the recent Camo shots, the dimensions look close to the current model. IMO, still the best looking 1/2 ton on the market.

The unknown, and what really matters, is what they've done with the powerplant. If it truly is the TT V6, or the TT V6 hybrid that most are anticipating, and it only makes similar numbers to the F150 with nothing more, Toyota has a giant fail on their hands. Toyota has to know this. Let's hope they do something more impressive.

Definitely not planning on trading in my 2018. But if they leap the market the way they did in '07, and if they release it with a video going through a tunnel of fire again, I'm sold. Because my half ton needs to tow uphill through a fire tunnel.

Unless Toyota knocks it out of the park with the new Tundra my next truck will probably be a Superduty with the new 7.3.

Who would have thought a 13-14 year old vehicle would give you trouble? I'm a big believer in Tundra reliability (I've said countless times Ram and GM have better trucks on the lot, yet I bought a Tundra) and 13 years to start having issues impresses me.

If it gets the rumored HP/Torque numbers and MPG it'll be hard not to. I'll definitely be test driving the hybrid once it's out to see how it drives, but based on a Highlander hybrid I have very high hopes for the Tundra hybrid.

Wonder if you could do the 38 gallon tank swap on a Sequoia like you can do on the 2014,2015 (I'm not a 100% sure if it can happen on 2007-2013's) Tundra?

Kind of like having a supermodel wife. Lots of bells and whistles and neat things to play with but in the end costs you a ton of cash and is not very reliable. :spending:

Haha, reliability is at the top of my list, been married to the same beautiful woman for 26 years, and she is way more frugal than me.

Five second 0-60 times in a truck are impressive, but I have no interest in Turbo-6 or hybrid Turbo-6 because they cannot do what I want them to do: tow a moderate amount of weight efficiently for long periods of time. Now, put a Toyota hybrid 5.7 or the 5.0 that they put in the Century Limo and now we're talking. Toyota hasn't totally scrapped V8s. They went to the Turbo 3.5 in the Lexus LS but made the decision to continue the 5.0 in the Century because of it's smooth power that's only available with large displacement.

Everyone wants trucks for their own reasons. I want one to move my boat, Sea doos, and RV for a long time. I do not trust a 6 cylinder to do that. If Toyota comes up with a Turbo 6 hybrid that proves to be as bullet proof over the next decade, I'll probably buy one in a decade. But if they want to get a guy like me now, and there are a lot of guys like me, it's going to take more than an MPG around town improvement. It takes something that moves the needle like it did in 2007, and Turbos and improved MPGs ain't gettin it done.

A twin turbo will pull a trailer just fine when paired with a better transmission. Huge difference between a 10 speed and a 6 speed

    I was wondering the same.

How do we know this isn't a titan, or similar truck? Could be old test photos from a different unit.

    .
Of course it can pull it, but can you rely on it to do that for 100s of thousands of worry free miles. Not enough are getting there yet to know. That 10 speed transmission isn't going to make a big difference with internal engine wear. Do you think it's a coincidence that Ford's reliability has gone in the toilet since producing more Turbo 6s? GM hasn't changed much and is running circles around Ford in the reliability department because they are still using a 5.3L V8 that they've had for going on 25 years.

Fords reliability has always been shit and continues even with the current coyote V8. GM is only slightly better than Ford but it's still a less stinky pile.

Lol, and in 2014 GM instead of going the forced induction / smaller displacement route, GM went the AFM cylinder deactivation route with the 5.3L...... and look how that worked out.

Personally happened to me in my 2017 Tahoe work rig at 50k miles which then took out the camshaft and then proceeded to destroy the top half of the motor.

I think that there is a reason Toyota didn't start putting turbo 6's in their trucks when Ford did. I believe that they won't just throw engine tech out there, and figure out the week spots later.
A turbo 6 is supposed to make its torque at a lower rpm which should be good for the internals. And with an 8 or 10 speed trans it should be able to keep in the torque band. The current 5.7 really only makes power high in the rpms and the trans is spaced just far enough apart that when I tow and hit a hill it has to down shift to keep the rpms close to redline. Which I would think is not good for internals.
I get your side of things, I was there up until a few years ago. But now I feel that turbos have come a long ways. And the 3.5 twin turbo has been used in the Lexus line for a few years with no issues. If the looks of the new truck are appealing to me I will pull the trigger. I should do pretty good on trade as many would rather buy the proven 5.7

Ford’s quality and the general reliability of turbo v6 motors in fullsize trucks are two separate categories.

any engine built right, USED right, and maintained right can last just fine. I spoke with a guy who’s company has a large ford fleet. Their mechanic has determined through experience that the ecoboost engines need a shorter oil change interval to be reliable. Could be anecdotal, but most americans do not maintain their vehicles like we do.

Entertaining to me that so many hate the new Tundra when nobody has yet to see it, drive it, test it, etc. And, yet so many are critical that the current platform is aged and out of date, and lagging behind competitors in terms of creature comforts, interior design, towing capacity, fuel mileage, etc.

I suppose it is true that we want to have our cake and eat it too. We want better fuel economy, but also a +500 hP V8. We want all the new bells and whistles in terms of electronics, but we want 100% perfect reliability. Some of us want to see a total redesign with a more aggressive and modern look, but others of us despise change in any shape or form.

Time will tell though. The new truck is coming. And, if history tells us anything, it is that change is inevitable. Another truth is that we either change or we die. Personally, I've chosen not to stop thinking about this. I know that some have already made up their mind and don't need any further information. I'm fortunate in that I have a great truck and don't need to purchase another one anytime soon. But, I will try to get behind the wheel for a test of the new generation as soon as possible. LONG LIVE THE KING!
