No offense to any of you Ford fanboys, but it's a $70,000 T U R D. My brother in law has one, and, well, it's a turd. I'm 50 years old and have owned quite a variety of vehicles, both foreign and domestic. With the exception of the Acura that I purchased my wife 20 years ago, they have ALL disappointed...... except for my Toyotas. Last vehicle was a 4Runner. I put 180k on the clock and the only problem that I had was the A/C evap coil. Preceding that was a Nissan Xterra. What a piece of shit that was. Transmission went out; ignition system went out; entire cooling system failed (water pump, radiator, thermostat); brake caliper failures. And do not get me started on the GMC Acadia that I bought my wife. Worst vehicle that I have ever encountered in my lifetime.

This Tundra is the first V8 that I have ever owned. I'm so happy that I got it before it's phased out. And I couldn't give a rats ass about the fuel economy. The next gen Tundra looks stupid to me, regardless of the fuel-eco-technology that is is purported to contain. Too much like a 5th gen 4Runner . So, in a year or two, when some of you are spinning out your tires at a nearby intersection, I'll be somewhere out on the trail, climbing a hill to the beautiful growl of my 5.7 liter.

Nice dude! We paid 50-55k for an outdated truck with tech from 2011. I chose Ford this go around because, as Scotty Kilmer put it, Ford knows how to make trucks. Every single fire truck, ambulance, forest service truck, and fleet vehicle wouldn't pick the F series if they were that bad. They're that good.

Ford and Toyota as far as trucks in my opinion are the best you can get. Toyota's cost less and are less modern. Ford's more modern with the capability to run into some hiccups. Not worried about possible warranty work, bc its warranty work.

We know what Toyota is bringing in this new gen-- look at what Lexus is doing now. They're finally getting around to domestic progress a la 2017.

I respect both Ford and Toyota owners. As a long time Toyota Tundra and Tacoma owner I'm excited for some excitement from my vehicle, not just "dependability and reliability" as monikers people swear by.

Glad you found a vehicle you like, unless its a new model year you shouldn't have any issues. As a previous owner of a Ford I'll never touch one again; I sincerely hope you have a positive experience with your new purchase and none of the troubles I had with the brand.

Out of curiosity what tech is missing from the Toyota that the Ford offers?

Ford also has the capacity for the greatest total production number and due to that, in part, they can accommodate a larger profit flexibility.

State, federal and other private groups can secure large fleet supply because of that production rate. Ford can accommodate a greater discount for the same reason and therefore has a marketing advantage that Toyota could never challenge without major changes to their production style.

Quality is not always the primary concern when negotiations for contracts and budgets are being made.

24mpg hybrid, wireless carplay, 12 inch screen, electronic speedo, 360 cameras, full self driving activation 2021, over the air updates to just name a few.

Im going with a new model year because its the same engine and transmission as the past 5 years, plus the addition of the hybrid motor. With the new Ford CEO they're focusing on QC, and apparently halting all outgoing F150s in this first batch until they're perfect. Good enough for me.

That's true, but if they were absolute dogs they would go with GM or Fiat, or an entire market would open up for Toyota (World's largest automaker) to come in. Market dynamics clearly indicate some amount of satisfaction. I'm no Ford fanboy, quite honestly the opposite. I have had a Toyota since 2005, but I can't justify spending 50-55k again for something that costs Toyota almost nothing to make, and has minimal R&D dollars spent into it.

Toyota is notoriously cheap as hell, and they peddle the same truck for 10 years. Pretty easy to have minimal recalls when you've had 10 years to figure it out. When I'm not 30 years old, and get to my last truck in life, I'll get a Toyota. I want some enjoyment in my truck driving experience, at the expense of "possible" issues arising.

Toyota is cheap and basic which makes it more reliable, but less features. Competitors trucks are twice as luxurious and innovative, but cost way more generally

Toyota just simply does not have the capacity to supply trucks on a fleet level like Ford does. They may be the largest automaker, but not in this market. In an apples to apples comparison between Ford and Toyota quality in regard to the F150 and Tundra, yes manufacturing output is the main factor as to why Ford has that market under control. I cant comment on Ford reliability for the F150, I just don't know enough about it to make a valuable input there. Toyota would have to spend billions to address those factors, don't see that happening.

I do agree on your observations of Toyotas methodology. 100%

Have one in the family, its a nice truck. Seats feel lower quality than my Pros were, mechanically it feels a bit less refined. Does have a ton more bells and whistles though.

Now that I was in the market again for a truck I did check out the Rams, Chevys, Fords and GMCs. Honestly the Ram 1500 and 2500 felt the nicest when fully loaded. They price out around the GMCs as well. The F150s felt closer to the Tundra, a little less fluff a bit more purpose built feeling.

Scotty Kilmer is very entertaining. But if you listen to Scotty, he is not a big fan of Turbos and does not like Ford's V6 powertrain. He likes the 5.0, and really likes the older Ford V8 powerplants from the 2000s. He understands as most of us do that high revolutions over extended periods of time are not good for moving parts.

If someone wants to dress up their truck up like Rough Country threw-up all over it and park it in the back space at the mall so everyone can tell them how "bad-ass" it looks (and some look really cool), it doesn't really matter. But if you travel 25k miles per year with 1/3 or more of that being with heavy toys, like mine does, then you are going to need a half ton with displacement. Displacement and increased cylinders equals lower revs, which equals less wear tear.

The Tundras roots are in QDR, and those of us that want that will likely continue with a Tundra. Additionally, those of us that value money will continue to go with Tundra. As I've told many friends that say "Tundras are too expensive", you are better off buying any Tundra (even with it's crappy fuel economy) and throwing $200 per month out the window than buying any other 1/2 ton. The cost of ownership difference over 5 years in excess of $12,000. When you look at the repair costs and the fact that F150s hold their value about as well as stones can float on water, Ford is the worst.

Scotty is very biased in favour of Ford. He still recommends the 5.0L V8 despite the fact that they've been putting leaky plastic oil pans in them since about 2018.

I dont know where you get your data from, but the F150 has one of the best resale values on the market. 36% over 5 years. Tundra 41% over 5 years. And just wait for the 2022 Tundra to hit the market. Will be bad for all of our model years 2014-21.

He also endorsed the Tundra (an older generation) in one of his videos. I think he owns it. Generally he is a Lexus fanboy (rightly so).

Your forgetting one thing that would push the mpg to 25. The hybrid option. The new 2021 F150 now has it and it's a torque monster. Also the new 2021 Sienna now has a 2.5 four cylinder and is a hybrid. It has more HP then the 3.5 it replaces and approx 10mpg better than the old van.

It sounds like Ford has your use case pegged. The reliability spread is getting smaller as manufacturing improves, when it comes to Ford I'll believe it when I see it.

When I start seeing jihadi's rocking F150s (or Rangers for this comparision) Ford will get my attention, until then I'm sticking with Toyota for my needs:

    A bunch
Fleets don't pick Ford's because they're good, they pick them because they're the cheapest. Most fleets have a combo of 1/2 tons and HD, so Toyota isn't even looked at. It's up to Ram, GM, and Ford - and out of those 3 it comes down to cost since they all have more or less the same reliability. Fleets don't care that much about being without a truck for a week or being in the shop every 5k km's chasing the same issue because most have spare vehicles. Some parts of Ford's are quite good (6.7 PSD) but it just seems like a lottery whether you get a major issue within 100k km's or just some silly but annoying electrical gremlin.
