I'd be down with an FJ with open roof and doors. But as for what Toyota has got planned,I don't think we see it.

Yeah, here is my impression of how this goes for everyone holding out for 2022 instead of tracking down a current gen Tundra about 6months after the purchase:

I wonder if they start having problems with the TTV6 when it comes out if they’ll opt to put the V8 back in ?

Wait til all these V8 lovers find out the TT V6 is more reliable, better mpg, and makes more power and torque.

Coolant leaks, oil / cam phaser issues / secondary air injection failures / etc etc etc.

Add a Toyota approved supercharger and the trans shits out on many of these V8 trucks.

Tons of proof on this forum that the V8 has its own set of issues just like any engine / car.

Sure it's overall reliable. Toyota is a company built on reliability.
The TTV6 engine comes from Lexus that has even stricter reliability requirements than Toyota.

It'll be fun when we get the comparisons in drag races, the heavy towing up mountains, and fuel mileage loops (those 3 things are about the only things I watch on TFL, from what we can tell their methodology doesn't change brand to brand) to the current Tundra. I'll take a little less growl to get better results in those 3 categories, and if they end up being much better it'll be tough to stay away.

Is the cost to maintain and the maintenance relatively similar?

I have literally been trying to kill my 2001 V8, I get oil changes like once a year and do not care what I do with it and it will not die.

Many turbo engines require premium fuel to get the quoted power numbers, it'll be interesting to see if Toyota tries to fool buyers with this too. Turbos do require extra service, but it's fairly high mileage intervals for most - 100k km roughly. Day to day most drivers won't have to do anything different - about the only thing to be careful with is no spirited driving then shutting the engine off right away, need to give the turbos time to cool down. Some vehicles have a shutdown process that takes care of this so could rev the engine like crazy, turn the key off, but the ecu keeps the coolant circulating as required.

Tough choice between a used Raptor, or a new PowerBoost. But really want to see how the Tundra with the TTV6 does as well, and if it has a hybrid.

After watching that I wondered what a regular 3.5 EB does. Being at such a high elevation the NA Tundra is at a HUGE disadvantage compared to the forced induction engines. But I'm curious how much the hybrid 'boosts' over the non-hybrid version, and this is the perfect chance to show what it does.

And thinking long term if the hybrid unit does make a significant difference then I could see hybrid gas trucks replacing diesels. I'd love to see a hybrid unit put on one of the HD V8's, those things would have near endless power.

That power boost can move, I don't think I'd get a first year ford though. Unless the new base raptor could be had for under 58-60k. I'm hoping the yota v6tt is at least as good as the ford 430/570 24mpg. Then maybe the used v8 tundra market will at least get back to normal.
