Update #2: Derale 13402 (16 plate 32000 btu) installed and Lubegard Platinum added to correct for cooler volume and hose volume. Initial results - shifting actually smoother than oem. Temps slower to rise to stable operating temp. Highway operating temp reached 188 - pre cooler install temp were generally 210. Temps monitored with SG II. Install can be done without removal of grill - only need to drop skid plate and lower air-dam like you would for oil change. There is no standalone cooler, and the OEM hockey puck acts as a heater and offers no cooling (edited to reflect @ryanwgregg input). If done again I would install a larger cooling unit. Will report back after further general and towing use.

Brackets are made from 1"x1"x.188 aluminum angle for corners, 1/8"x2" flat plate for legs. Bottom bracket(s) 3.5"x3.5", top bracket(s) 2"x 8-1/8". Uses 6.75' of transmission hose (kit came with 4'). Rubber isolators used between cooler/bracket attachment points. Clearance between cooler and condensor is approximately 1.5 inches. The cooler does not touch any surface(s) other than bracket connections. Diagrams posted further up in this thread will show you where to connect the system.

I greatly appreciate you !! I know myself and several other members have been looking for a solution for an aux. cooler. I’m not comfortable with my daily temps that hit 220, but I’m running a JB4 Map 3 sometimes Map 6.
How about how much additional Lubreguard did you have to use ?

the volume of the cooler was 10oz (Derale identifies the volume of their coolers) and the volume of the additional hose was a little less than 5 oz (.75 fluid oz per foot of 3/8 inch ID). Added 15 oz. Bought at NAPA rather than online.

My truck loaded up for off roading is heavy and on the trail climbing I’ve had my trans temp alert hit a couple times. I’ve found that running most trails in 2nd gear has solved the temp issue for now in my use case, but I’d be interested in a “how to” post with photos if you are up for it. Thanks for the info!

    Update#3:

After a few weeks of general city driving (local streets 30 - 45 mph) with sitting at stop lights I have found the maximum transmission temp reached is 197 and the oil temp was 194. The transmission temp drops to 194 once moving. Pre install temps were 215ish. So I'd say the approach works - but a larger cooler would hopefully yield even cooler operating temps and will be my future investigtions and possibly Fall season project. Thinking of going to a Hayden 679.

Fully warmed up? Coolant temp was 194ish, or?

Would like to see same for local city street (stop and go, sitting at stop lights) temps.

Thanks for post, and the presentation app is amazing!

This was after a 20 min 55-65mph drive in 92* ambient temps....fully warmed up. I got off the fwy and hit maybe 2-3 lights when I took the 201 pic. By the time I got home, I saw the 208...so it crept up a bit in city stop and go.

1.75" lift, 275/60-20s stockish weight on oem wheels. I never saw these temps in my 05 Silverado with an in line Tru cool 40k...even in higher ambient temps (110-115*)

App is the JB4 app from BMS.

yep those temps would make you cringe. I'm 99% certain I am going to sell my Derale 13402 (likely talk my son-in-law into letting me put it on this Tacoma as a secondary to his oem tow cooler) and try the Hayden 679. I think the Hayden has better air flow for cooling purposes than the Derale. Highway temps for me - driving 65mph with no stop and go were sub 190 with the Derale in the Tundra. I have the Hayden running in series to my OEM Tow Cooler in my Gen3 Super Charged Tacoma and it never goes over 190 even towing over mountain passes.

Is it recommended to use the Lubegard platinum and Toyota trans fluid when installing the cooler or just Toyota trans fluid? My trans temps run hot with normal driving and have seen up to 223. This was from yesterday, 10 mile drive at 65-70. Truck was already warm before leaving.

see post #109. I have used LG in the past in my Tacoma and asked them specifically about its' use in the Gen3 Tundra 10 spd transmission. Noted post has their official reply.

Since these transmissions use WS aft. I had success using Amsoil SS blue cap ATF in my 2015 Tacoma. I wonder how it would work on the 10 speed.
