    Weird that Toyota put a rear axle with less capacity on their new truck. Beefed up the frame and then put a lesser axle on it.

    Yeah, there is more payload but slightly lower rated axles.

    I tend to go by the axle ratings myself. My truck weighs 5930 lb stock unloaded, but it can carry 8150 lb (4000 lb FF/4150 lb RR) if perfectly distributed without overloading either axle.

    I’m not advocating for people to use their axle ratings instead of GVWR as a rule of thumb; I just appreciate the capability in the relatively seldom situations when I need to haul a heavy load.

    Question for everyone, are Tundra axle capacities increased with increased GVW on higher trim level Tundras meaning lower trim level axle ratings are de-rated? My Tundra is a 2WD SR5.

    GVW Weight 6990 pounds
    Maximum front axle 4080 pounds
    Maximum rear axle 3860 pounds
    Load Capacity 1400 pounds
