Trying out a 2022 tundra manufactured 06/22 & concerned w possibly future engine problems, stalling on you & having to be towed. We need to decide by Friday if we want to return it or not. I researched online & found out that Toyota took apart a few trucks to determine issue & got a new supplier since that corrected the issue. Toyota can’t tell us when was the new supplier was brought in, was it before our truck was manufactured or after? Does anyone know about this new supplier? If our truck was manufactured after, then we would more than likely keep it. Thanks

Search is your friend. Also, it's a 2022, should have full warranty and you can even buy extended warranty. Regardless no one can tell you with certainty that it's ok.

Yes, there still is warranty & can buy extended but no guarantee that if we have future engine issues that it will happen before warranty is out. We bought a used 2015 Silverado in march private sale w 60,000 mi, drove it 4 months, put 3000 on it & engine is going out. So we are definitely gun shy w engines. I have done searches to find out when the new supplier was used & can’t find the answer, hoping someone else has. Thanks for your input.

    1. How many miles on the 2022 tundra you're considering?
    2. Did you check the carfax to see if it had any warranty work done at Toyota dealership already?
    3. Nobody knows why the engine bearings fail... Usually around 12-30k miles, but could be anytime. Toyota did not had just a bad batch of parts - trucks are still failing, even 2023 models. Toyota is keeping secret why it fails.
    4. Early build 2022 had more issues than later build 2022, and 2023 have less issues than earlier builds. I wouldn't buy a 2022 myself, ask me how I know. There may be a hidden issue that you won't be able to catch - that's why original buyer sold his 2022. Read this forum, compile list of issues to check for...
    3. If it's under 36k miles, buy factory Toyota warranty from Jerry, see extended warranty post. 10y/120k miles is $2100

    Good luck

Is 06/22 considered early or later model?

Please read the first post. This is just for gathering data on motors that have had issues. Not a discussion thread. There are two links in the 1st post that are also very helpful.

Mine is about 7/2022 build date

Wind and whistle noise on highway, transmission making knocking sounds - quieter knocking after the TSB, rear dif or transmission whine at 80+ mph, throttle delay issue... Most of us have this one.

Why would you want to buy a first year model year? Feeling lucky? That's what many of us here thought...

Sorry about posting on wrong thread, was on another & someone suggested I get on this one, because I would get more feedback on the possible engine issues. I hope I never have to be on this one which means the tundra we are trying if we keep dis have a bad engine. Thanks

I have a 22 Tundra that I bought in June 2022 so I know it was built a few months before the one you are looking at. I have 17,000 miles on it and other than recalls for an axle bolt retorque and software updates I've had no issues with the it. I bought the extended warranty on it, 10 years 100,000 mile factory Toyota warranty on it and plan on selling it when it hits around 75,000 miles because of the same concerns you have. I'm sure toyota has seen enough trucks with the various engine issues where their engineers have a good idea of what's the common point of failure but they aren't letting the cat out of the bag. The chevy you had that engine died on was most like the valve issue many of them had. Ram has had issues with valve issues with their 5.7 as well. One thing to consider is if you want a truly bulletproof truck, buy a 2 Gen Tundra. They are absolutely at the top of the heap for long term reliability.

That's pretty darn impressive when you look at the Toyota Tundra numbers on that site. Sometimes the worse thing you can do is surf the internet for owners groups of vehicles as it's actually a small slice of the big pie. I read stuff on this forum and assume it will happen to my truck and the reality is the truck has been bulletproof since I bought it.

That website doesn’t look like it’s been updated in a long time. They have data for a Toyota Echo but no mention of Tesla.

Good point. I looked to see if they added the Maverick truck to the Ford lineup and it's not there and that model is two years old now. So yes, looks like the data is old but hard to tell how old.

I guess there is no way of knowing if ours was manufactured w the bad batch of engine parts or not.
