Personally id use it as a trade in for a tundra with a 3ur something with a 2gr or a25a but im sure toyota pays for a rental and all repairs

3urFE fan here. Turbos are fun so long as you have turbo money for repairs.
Cost of ownership/ maintenance goes to N/A vs Turbo. I get it mpg, emissions etc. I believe even a supercharger is less troublesome with regards to forced induction related problems.
We can only hope that Toyota stays the course and change only what will improve this V6 turbo layout as I don't see Tundra getting a V8 in the future.
With regard to OP dilemma I would get rid of it asap. I could not daily drive a truck that can not be trusted.
It's a Dam shame even a fraud imo.
Like Toyota really doesn't take new trucks to proving grounds. We all know there were trucks with similar problems when water tested. But sales trumps customers always.
I bet if they dig deep enough there's confidential Toyota notes somewhere that will spill the beans.
Sidenote* if the truck was so deep in water wouldn't the dealer be quick to show OP water damage in the cab / carpet ???

Hmm, guys probably not on here. But we just got our first 22 tundra engine failure in the shop. Shut off on the highway. Nasty knock from it. ~42k I believe.

I have an odd feeling the oiling system is questionable. But I guess now I’ll get to see the insides of one and compare to the GR.

as for manufacturing issues.. I doubt it. Haven’t heard anything from corporate about that. But we’ll see since there is a TAS case on this truck.

We just did a motor at my dealer. Car came in knocking. Once the motor got torn down per Toyotas request we came to find out the main bearing came out
pretty much all the way. The field rep said this was the first one he's seen this bad. Long story short Toyota covered it all under warranty. Truck has 26xxx miles on it. Truck threw these codes CODES X0800 X0821 X090A X0602 X263E X260E X265C. Toyota would not replace the long block as that is for "engineering purposes only" so my guys did a short block, both heads, both turbos, all valves and so on. So pretty much a long block pieced together
Claim total $26306.12 in parts $8252.82 in labor and $3108 in loaner costs. Prod Date: 05/19/2022

The guy was super nice about it. We waited for the gasket kit for over a month, everything else came pretty quick.

I read somewhere on this forum; the builds that were made around APR-MAY... were more inclined to have quality control issues and high-risks for eng failure.

With that being said, I got the extended warranty.

Yes. It does not happen when truck is shut, so pretty much the number can be driven down to 0 if all those pregnant bulge bumper trucks are grounded.

That's about what I'm seeing. The dealer I go to has 3 stores and had heard about the problem but hadn't had any engine replacements.

This is a really interesting post. A couple more questions if you can answer without breaking confidentiality:
    1. You put on new heads, valves and turbos? That seems really expensive from a labor standpoint vs doing a long block.
    2. Did Toyota support rep recover or inspect the block? In the past, it seemed like Toyota had a lot of rigor around finding the problem at the failure point. They wanted to know what the problem was vs Ford that by and large just viewed a certain number of failures as a cost of business until it got really bad.
    Thanks

Also why new valves? I'd expect tappets/lifters wear out, along with camshafts. Valve guides are lubricated by a tiny bit of oil that gets past stem seals from camshaft valleys that always filled with oil.

Why thanks! :D Only have what I have due to canceling the cluster f*ck 2/'22 build that was my pending 3rd Gen.
    And....that's 2.5 Gen to you.
An aside, as someone intently anticipating the 2025's it should be interesting seeing the 'new' prices going into that model year with so many used low-mile '22s rapidly decreasing in value. They are freaking everywhere, like the plague.

    Moral of the story....

    It's been said for ever
"don't buy new vehicles" car or truck let someone take the headache and financial burden. Even the great Toyota needs testers.
After 5 years they must have issues worked out. Otherwise move on.

The rep came out and saw it when we took everything apart and then after the repairs Toyota did call everything we replaced back to Texas for the engineers.

And yeah no long block as those per the reps words are for "engineering purposes only"

My tech was pushing for a long block but no can do. We ended up getting paid 53.1 labor hours for the whole job.

2 exhaust valves were very slightly kissed. Rest was caked like crazy from the direct injection. Rep said to them all to be on the safe side since its either new going in or old into the new heads.

Okay, this is new. Thanks for insights!

Any evidence what caused bent valves?

Valves dirty from DI puts the engine in the coffin long term even if Toyota manages to fix oil starvation problem(s). Ford re-added a port injection in 2017 to their V6TT, for example.

The 3.4TT has a seventh injector I believe. Sad to hear the valves are getting so much buildup anyway. My GM 3.6GDI motor’s valves looked horrible when I did the plug change at 100k miles. I did a cursory cleaning by directly applying some treatment to them. Couldn’t use much as it would risk hydrolocking a cylinder. Not sure it helped much, but was still running great at 188k miles when I sold it.

I always see a fair amount of high mileage 3rd Gens on Autotrader at any given time. The mileage question comes up often enough that I've stopped creating new posts on the subject and now just link to this last post I did:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/off...-discussion-thread.125154/page-6#post-3289598

The Autotrader links in the above post are likely broken now since (I'm sure) the trucks have been sold. I looked on AT just now and I see eight MY22 trucks on the first page that have 75k miles or more on the ODO. If you really get bored, you can do like I did in the above post and search the service history on the trucks by entering the VIN at on Toyota's website to confirm none of them have had engine rebuilds.

Side note: I didn't include this one in my count since I'm sure it's a typo. If anyone wants to call Autonation Toyota of South Austin to confirm...I'm sure you could be famous for having the first million-mile 3rd gen. And, a 2024 to boot! Though $68k for a truck with nearly 900k miles seems a bit steep.
