Wow here in PA they are not allowed to keep a deposit. Some dealers say it’s non refundable but against the law here.

(waited almost 3mos to get it!)

In WA and OR I've put down refundable deposits with 3 different dealers. Nobody has said their deposits are non-refundable.

I had (3) $500 refundable deposits with dealers in CA but ID would not budge and I figured I had the best shot with getting it from them for MSRP where CA dealers were charging (and still are!) ridiculous markups…

I live in Jacksonville, FL area. Just test drove a fully loaded Platinum 2022 Tundra at Keith Pierson Toyota. Need to boycott this dealership, trying to charger ADM of $20,000 over MSRP. What a rip off………. Tried to justify by saying that you could buy a new Tundra and then sell for $20K more. Total BS, the only way you could sell it would be at another dealership. I don’t know anybody that can buy a used Tundra from a private owner for that kind of money. Until they come back to planet earth and charge no more than MSRP, I’ll never do business there. Also need to stop using their service shop, maybe then the owners will understand that screwing over customers is not good business practice.

Finally got a call from the dealership that the tundra my brother requested was in stock. This is the prices we were greeted with... safe to say I walked away and told them we would just finish paying off his leased tundra. Here are the lease and finance numbers they gave us for an sr5 double cab with the XP package 2x4. 60e12201-73d1-4376-83e3-368ae8452c7a.jpg

Dealer I bought my 22 from had $0 markup, sold at MSRP, but was told that is only applicable to local buyers. Any out of town buyers they would add a markup.

With stupidity like this, Toyota is going to eventually take a beating. This thread has made me realize that I want nothing to do with a new Tundra even though my current one is 10 years old. I can wait another year or two or pay half as much for a one year old Ford truck.

I could agree with you partially but this has nothing to do with Toyota. It is dealership owners being greedy as all hell and talking advantage of the complications caused by a Global Pandemic. Sure GM and Ford have just recently brought it to light but it took them 20 something years that I've heard of dealer markups, availability addendums, market adjustments, and whatever else they call them.

Do some digging and find a dealer not doing it and make your local dealer suffer the consequences of losing a sale. That's what I did, left my city and drove 100 miles to work with another dealer that didn't. Drove back home went to my dealer here in town and showed them they lost out. They still have a tundra on the front line and it's been there about 3 weeks now

Sad to hear about Keith Pierson, they were better than Arlington and Beaver in the past. Hard to find a good dealer here, will probably have to fly somewhere & drive back.

Luckily we have proof of residency in Idaho as that is where I finally purchased my ‘21 for MSRP last Sept (and they were selling to locals only)
I was on a waiting list for almost 3mos with a $1k non refundable deposit but that’s another story!!

I bought 3 Tundras from 2 local San Diego dealerships in CA over a 15yr period and when I went to get this latest one I called each of them and explained that I was in their system and a “preferred customer” and they said they would be happy to discuss the ADM with me and maybe we could settle on a number I would be happy with etc… I told one manager “So I’m supposed to be happy to get you down to a $5k markup from $10k”?
He didn’t know what to say…

I really hope Toyota takes notice and in the future Toyota rewards the dealerships that have worked with folks during these times by giving them all the priority allocations and away from the “stealerships” that have been doing business a different way

Town Toyota in Wenatchee WA is selling for MSRP for "local" customers, and they have flexibility in their definition of "local". They're also doing some other interesting things that I'll update here when my truck arrives.

Crazy to hear all this stuff. I'm the new car manager at a Toyota store in Greensburg PA. We sell everything at MSRP...literally no add ons except what Toyota puts on the truck from factory (our region has no control of that). I don't care if you trade or not and I don't care if you are out of state, we will sell you a truck. We, like everyone else, have a pretty decent list going on for future allocations but we keep it super honest here. I hate trying to sound like an advertisement but just looking to help people out. If anyone has any questions just shoot a DM and I'd be happy to help.

Marina Del Rey Toyota in Marina del Rey, CA does $30,000 mark-up on Tundra.

Toyota of Santa Monica, CA does $20,000 mark-up. Then he got mad when I told him I bought exactly what I wanted no mark-up. said I never even gave him a chance .

A chance for what? To talk him from $20k down to a $10k or even $5k markup? What a joke!!

The TACO I purchased from Leith Toyota in Raleigh on 1/1/22 had no markup or added bs. I purchased a Tundra on 2/18/22 at Modern Toyota of Winston Salem and they added tint of unknown quality and door edge protection that added $600. I wish I knew the quality/material of the tint used. I'll just have to assume its saran wrap darkened with a sharpie.....

Who would've guessed that buying a truck at sticker was a good deal. Welcome to the future.

I thought I'd read along the way that you had closed down user additions and wanted to scrape this thread to update the site.. But you'd know better than me :)

I'll submit my finding to the site.

Be wary of Cherokee Toyota. They're looking for a $2,500 market adjustment now.

No worries, ive managed to cobble together the site so ppl can submit without breaking things now lol

did you add em to THE LIST? www.markups.org

you can add them to the list again. there's no reason a dealership cant have multiple markup reports

Likewise, it's great to hear someone out there is having good luck! Enjoy that truck when it comes -

If anyone has a dealership/salesperson to recommend in the Atlanta area, please let me know.

Hey actually, check out Mark Doyle with Milton Martin Toyota (Gainesville). They weren't doing mark-ups two weeks ago.
