I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Your opportunity is coming OnThaLake, just hold fast and keep building that warchest!

It amazes me the number of people who refinanced homes and took cash out to spend on dumb shit. Being upside down in their homes isn’t going to feel very clever here in the near future. We refinanced (VA IRRRL) to a fixed 2.25% APR 30 year, but took out no cash at all… you know because we try to live within our means, and the mortgage broker was kind of surprised. He told us everyone else is, couldn’t understand why we didn’t.

For us it was a debate between paying the original mortgage off completely or refinancing it to invest that money elsewhere. Invest elsewhere and take advantage of ridiculously low loan servicing costs won.

Now I need interest rates to go up more. I want people who have to finance home purchases priced out of the market due to interest rates. Drive those prices down! See if we can buy a nice vacation home on Lake Superior for a deep discount, and VRBO it on the side.

Survey by an auto group...basically trying to convince people that prices aren't coming down so pull the trigger today. There is a lag but the bottom has definitely started to fall out.

I like how they make the self-serving statement that most buyers are willing to pay about 33% over MSRP. Yeah right....

    Right!
All these vehicles we blow so much money on eventually become junkyard fodder

Well, looks like they are almost $1,900 below MSRP now. At least for a 4x4 SR5 crewmax on the lot. Even has the 14" screen.

    upload_2022-10-24_11-18-38.jpg

Kendall of Eugene is now down to MSRP if the rig is on the lot. $2k above if in transit. They were around $5k above MSRP no matter what not too long ago.

Turned down about 6-7 exact rigs I want now at msrp (waiting to sell Tacoma after it was hit). Last guy I told no multiple times due to my Tacoma issues, but he said my name will stay on it until it arrives. Late January ETA so maybe some dealers are changing their tone. You would think he could find 50 people between now and then looking for a crewmax limited 6.5ft bed, but maybe the market is cooling here.

***2wd for $3,200 below msrp at Lithia as well.

Ended up calling this dealer. They confirmed those two are on the lot and below msrp. They no longer have a markup on SR5’s, limiteds, etc and if they sit a few days they are discounting them. He said they are trying to be more aggressive pricing wise these days. They even have a limited coming in not taken. He said he was surprised this is starting to happen ha so hopefully this dealer gets more that sit and they discount a few thousand.

I am sure it has been said but just in case, I've been looking at the new Tundra hybrid and while I can get dealers to agree on MSRP, they FORCE you to buy every dealer option under the sun. Local dealer to me (Toyota of Rockwall) had $4k worth of rando bs (lojack, tire warranty, paint protection, etc etc) added to every vehicle. It's absurd. Hope y'all are not getting robbed out there.

I bought my limited from them a couple weeks ago at msrp and they had all that, but but got them down to $500…figured I’d spend close to that anyway for tint. They were real proud of it though, they really didn’t want to budge.

It's hilarious they're surprised. Almost everyone needs to finance these things and rates are absolutely killing sales numbers.

Not sure what happened over the weekend, but dealers that were at MSRP or way above are now discounting some models.

    upload_2022-10-31_8-21-22.jpg

Just last week this dealer was $2,000 ADM on any tundra in transit and MSRP if they were sitting on the lot. Few weeks before that they were closer to $5k above msrp on all Tundras...
These are RWD, but still they already are backing off again.

    None Yet.
I bought my new 2022 Tundra (Model 8352A) in eastern Washington State with only a $500 dealer markup that got taken off since I am a Vet.

Options: JBL 12-Speaker Premium Audio, Limited Premium Package, TRD Off-Road Package, All Weather Floor Liners, TRD Performance Air Filter, & Tailgate Insert - Black.

Limited, Blue Print, Double Cab, & 6.5' bed were the main items I wanted and have searched for the past 12 months.

Have 2,000 miles on the Tundra (we had to drive her from the dealer 1,327 miles since could not get a enclosed shipper to pick her up).

whelp finally had my reserve request picked up by the regional port. not exactly how i wanted it but the spouse was tired of waiting after 6 months. compromised on the features. not thrilled on the bed liner as we were going for a mat, also had to get the AQ and RB package which i really didnt want but oh well. we can look into swapping it out later down the road for what we really wanted and maybe they will bring back better blue shades than the blueprint.

for those that are wondering, you can get way below MSRP.

    MSRP is $67343
Sell Price is $62758, which is pretty much dealer invoice on paper (not actual dealer cost)

Trade in was not on the high end, about $500 below what i wanted.

yep thats my cost on the tundra, dealer invoice. $62757.29 rounded to $62758.

no eta per the paperwork since its not scheduled for build until turkey day. so its either going to be built before or after turkey day. hopefully it gets here before christmas, would be a nice present for the wife since its her truck.

Thats good for you, I never heard for such low price.
Around CA platinum sells for 5-10k above msrp.

I don't understand why would dealer sell to you at cost, especially that inventory is so scarce now.

Although your truck is still probably a couple of months away. I think it takes about a month to build, and a few weeks to deliver from the factory. But that price is still unreasonably low

they are a volume dealer, they get more money from meeting toyota sales quota's than nickel and diming customers.

doesnt hurt this will by my 15 or 16th toyota i have bought from them.

also you have to remember, this dealer will still make money off the sale, the true dealer cost is still lower than the paper dealer invoice price.

right now i have to decide if i want to go 72m or 60m (the apr % is just a quick glance at national avg, not my actual rate, i am doing worst case right now and havent delved into the details yet)

i save a ton in tax on the trade in so that helps.

@72m its 4.99% + $119 extra payment per month (payoff 16m early) and total interest is $3668

@60m its 4.49% + $43 extra payment per month (payoff 4 months early) and total interest is $3248

so the payoff time is the same at 72 or 60 months. but i save $420 in interest.

Keep in mind that these rates may not be available when your truck actually arrives.

I was planning on having the special 3 year Toyota financing apr at 2.49% in Sept 2022 but it expired at end of the month, weeks before my truck arrived, so I had to do 5 year 3.49% apr instead

Everything depends on region, dealer, relationship with dealer, allocations, accessories, trim, color, hybrid or not, 4x4 vs. 4x2, locality, trade, etc.

I was able to get down the ADM on my order to $2500 from $5000, but I threw in enough accessories at ‘no cost’ that it almost evened out. Accessories I wanted, mind you.

My disadvantage was basically wanting one particular build. 1794 Hybrid WCP/Saddle Tan with TRD. Anytime I found one online it was presold but one popped up the other night and I called the salesman I’d been talking to the next morning. Every other WCP within 300 miles had the Rich Cream interior which is a no-go. I have 3 local dealers within a 100 miles. It won’t even be here until January if I’m lucky.

I’ve been hunting off and on since it’s been out. I’m relieved to finally be done. Searching for a better deal wasn’t worth the time or now the risk, of Toyota MSRP going up again or my trade depreciating any further. Now I just have to hope the the deal is honored.
