I’m sure it’s all dealer dependent. Those who have any integrity left might do so but I had a dealer (Vandergriff Toyota in Arlington, TX) basically tell me “If you don’t buy it, someone else will.” & they were dead on.

again, I’ll try not to question how others spend their money but I cannot fathom paying $72K out the door for a truck with a $53K sticker price.

That's basically what I got from 2 local dealers here which is the #1 reason why I'm not bothering with them now. Just for kicks, I'm trading a Gladiator. Looked on the dealer's site (multi-dealership) and they were marking used Gladiators 10K above new sticker. I almost fainted.

The other reason is I've sent the salesman an email, and left a phone message a few days ago asking to confirm the 2000-3000 markup. Has yet to respond.

Ha! Sounds about right. I’ve had very few of these dealers confirm in writing that they are doing markups. Usually those admissions have come over the phone or when I ask for OTD numbers.

For me, that makes it even worse. These dealerships are trying to rob people blind & can’t even own up to it.

Wilsonville Toyota was priced MSRP plus a couple dealer add ons when I got mine. Price was the price on the window, no haggle. No 10k or whatever these dealerships are gouging Tundra folks.

Interesting, they told me $250 below msrp last time I chatted with them. You out of state? I am local to them.

Answered my own question. Still $250 below msrp on 2022 Tundras unless they put their NW Protection junk on it. The ones I looked at in the past had no add ons and were $250 below. They said it just depends on the trim and what management wants to do.

interesting below. Was told no haggle and price was price. They did put the NW package or whatever on it.Was only rig on lot. Was being held for someone, but then they wanted a CM. So I jumped on it. Kicking myself a bit for doing so. Once I got it home and the tall kids got in...

I'm on their list, and they've been $250 below MSRP *but* for Limited and above, they're adding on 2k-3k (can't remember right now) for paint protection, etc. And yeah, few dealers now are *saying* it's ADM, but lots are making customers buy their add-ons. Some of those have value to the customer, some don't.

I worked with a Seattle area dealer recently who was willing to knock off the $3k dealer add-ons, I asked "how can you do that if they've already been added?" He was somewhat coy about it, said that maybe the add-ons weren't physically installed on the truck I was looking at. Yikes! I think he was saying if I agreed to them (under pressure) they'd "install" those markup items prior to delivery, or if I negotiated them out, they're not even on the truck yet. This was 2 weeks ago. I think the high gas prices had something to do with it. However, all of their new Tundras we're sold in 5 days or less.

Interesting! I have been wanting only a Limited and the ones they have offered me (3 or 4 different ones) were all $250 below MSRP. No NW package.

I see you and coach are out of staters. I wonder if they are tacking on that NW package to out of state folks? A lot of dealers aren't selling to out of state people so maybe this is what they are doing as they know someone looking out of state is more serious?

Also, their NW Package is about $1,600 they said and is up to the manager to add it or not. Makes me think even more that they are doing this to people who cant be right in to see the truck... dealers are slimy.

Was working with Ira Toyota of Hyannis MA over the weekend and they are charging a $3000 markup. The markups.org site lists them as having $0 markup which is one of the reasons I went to see them. It actually shows the markup directly on their site so its not even hidden. Not sure if this is new or the previous poster just got lucky or if listing them there is more than one Ira Toyota in Massachusetts and the other one is not marking up.

I was looking on cars.com and it seems that all the bad blood dealers are generating seems to be pushing some to stop gouging. There are still a few out there that don't seem to care though. The one that almost made me puke was Koons of Westminster has a white Capstone with a price of 90,293. I can't believe they think people can't find out the real MSRP on it is 78,293. Now this thing is loaded but there's no way I would even consider this. Makes me wonder if they have the nerve to give you the window sticker when you buy it. I mean for that much over MSRP that's a crime.

Karl Malone Toyota in Utah is charging $2500 market adjustment and said they are between 6-9 months for preorders. $500 down to hold spot in line.

Handles of Fairfield, ca. 10k -20k over on tacomas, tundra, and Trd pro variants. Tried to justify it as market value. I lol’ed and called their justification baloney.

i talked to several dealers from Utah, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado. All have markups, one dealership told me the main reason why they have to markup is to make up for the lost sales. It’s just another way to get more money out of the customer. Which is says since I brought 3 years from Malone in the past two years, for an moment I thought this dealership was one of the good ones. But with the markup I guess they are the as other ones.

The other thing is in retrospect I was soooooooo stupid. The first dealer I went to told me how the allocation process works and said sometimes you have to settle for slight variances in what Toyota built vs what you want which I totally understand and believe. Then he went on to say sometimes you have to take their extra add-ons because right now Toyota is looking to sell Tundras and bolt on extra goodies so other people will see them and want one. I believed it at the time because it sounds like a legit marketing thing. Up until all of you talking about the add-on trick to get you to pay a premium for your vehicles. At that point I had a DOH! moment and realized what he was doing.

The dealer I bought from had the exact truck in the exact color I wanted. When I inquired about the add on amount he said "why would I want to do that"? I was sold right then and there.

I'll remember all the local dealers gouging people when its time to trade this thing in.

I don't exactly know how all of that works, but my salesman showed me the screen from the Toyota dealer site about my Tundra. It showed that it was put in line to be built on 11/12/21. Finally got physically built on 3/17/22 so that may not be that out of line.

I would be ok with the markups if I got something for it. But just to say it’s a market adjustment is just sht, it’s really making these dealers go back to how they use to be known as. It’s funny how a lot of these dealers tried so hard to distinguish themselves from others by saying they were like an traditional car dealership. They have upfront pricing, no hidden fees no markups. But the minute they see they can use the herd mentality they jump on the gravy train.

Somehow I am not shocked that Toyota of Dallas is pulling that. Par for the course with a lot of the bigger dealerships in this area.

"Getting something" for a markup is called a dealer add-on. And it's debatable if dealer add-ons have much value. Window tint is probably valuable to you, but a "windshield treatment" that "protects the surface of the glass" (whatever that means) for $900 is totally BS, I'd rather them just charge ADM than insult me with such a dubious, required, add-on.

I put down $500 in January at Mark Miller in Salt Lake City. Quoted same timeframe with no mark-up. Will see if that holds.

Per Malone Toyota there markups are the following:

Gas models are $2500, hybrid is $5000, and Pro/Capstone is $10k over for Utah residents.
