    Hey there Alex,

just wanted to let you know I have the same Truck, model, year, trim, and mileage and just encountered the same issue. I do a lot of driving for work so I’d assume that’s why you have 16,000 miles as well as me. I was having all the same issues you were having before the big caboom as I’ll call it. It would stall at low speeds and I’d get random check engine lights such as steering power low, advanced ultrasonic detection failure, and all sorts of other things. Even before this my truck seemed to be idling rough in park which was already a concern to me. Well finally this week on my way home from top golf the truck stalled out and wouldn’t re start even after unplugging the battery to re set it, had to get it towed. Took it to Toyota the next morning and they tell me the motor is seized and they’re going to have to tear apart the motor to find what went wrong.

Sorry to hear youre having the same issue. I was informed my truck is ready for pickup but two more recalls remain which have parts eta for mid January. By that time they'll have had my truck for 3 months which I completely understand. I've already told the Toyota rep and the service manager that I'll bet them anything they want a major engine recall will follow soon. what happened will begin to happen enough times for them to need to take action. If they don't offer me extended warranty I'll get rid of the truck asap.

Man, I just got my 23 and in less than 100 miles the trans is bad and needs to be replaced. It started as just a ticking noise while in park at idle. Seems like that’s the catalyst to a lot of the bigger problems whatever it may be. This is a terrible experience and I wish I never bought it. Sick to my stomach.

    Hey Alex,
Heard back from the service center, spun rod bearings just like yours and my crank was blue from over heating. When you look up 2022 Toyota Tundra they recommend your first oil change at 1500 miles for the break in period, I was never told that by the service center, I went 9,000 before I got me first one and now I’m at 16,600 and hadn’t had my second one done. This truck shares the same motor with the Lexus LS500 and that car is a known oil muncher, wondering if toyota doesn’t know that this truck needs better oil.

    Also another question for y’all,

my breaks had to get replaced after only 8,000 miles, I told Toyota when I took it in the first time that my breaks were squeaking and they said the pads were fine. Brought it in at 9k miles, front pads were metal on metal. They agreed to replace the front rotars but made me pay for the pads. Anyone else having this issue with the break pads wearing out super quick ?

Where do you see first oil change recommendation at 1500 miles? Officially its every 10k miles.

Unless it is considered severe service, then it’s 5000.

I looked up some production numbers and found that more than 80,000 2022 Tundras have been produced. Around here there are none in the dealerships, so they must all be running or blew up and left to scavengers.
I sure don’t wish for even one of them to have blown up though.
I just changed my oil at 4,000 miles. Dealership said 10,000 miles is free.
From what I read, the owners manual says 5K for severe service, otherwise, 10,000 mi.
That lawyer’s website show’s what seems to be every auto made has terrible problems. So sue, sue, sue!… and give him 50%?

Guess for oil I am old school. I have changed the Oil/Filter at 1000 Miles for every new car owned. I agree machining processes are precise and metallurgy always improving. To me, worth every penny for peace of mind not having any missed microscopic particulates floating around the oil. Most will say, the oil filter catches this but again this is for my peace of mind.

What are severe conditions? To me, clearly towing or carrying large payload. The other and most overlooked is substantial local around town driving where the oil does not completely come up to operating temps, exhaust system warms up and stops dropping water and engine water temps up to normal temps. In reality, this generally takes 20 miles of continuous driving.

I think the 1000/1500 oil change is not in the manual, but just something guys here like to do after initial break in of the engine. I've always done this to my new vehicles, and even rebuilt engines to remove debris that might be in there from the assembly process. This was the oil in my new 19 Tundra after only 700 miles.

Well for some reason, when you look up “when should I get my first oil change on my brand new 2022 Toyota Tundra” a webpage from Toyota pops up and says 1500 miles for first oil change during the break In period. I haul and tow stuff for work but nothing over the trucks load capacity. I do drive my truck quick because it’s twin turbo, however if Toyota recommends 10k with the oil they use that’s on them if it’s an oil related issue. The first oil change I got like I said was at around 9,000 miles on the brand new truck. The oil they put in was a synthetic blend (not full synthetic) that’s what the service advisor said to me. I’m not sure how many miles you're supposed to “actually” get with a synthetic blend if you drive your truck everywhere all the time. And to answer your question Dave about sueing, yes, however you don’t give the attorney 50%. If you go down the lemon law path and win, toyota gets to pay back in full value of the truck and they also get to pay for all your legal fees. Lemon law doesn’t mess around.

And with my truck, I’ve had about every damn problem listed on that law website with my truck, apart from the turbo waste gate issue. Stalling, crappy brake pads wearing out, truck seems to be delayed, fuel gauge not reading accurately all the time, randomly stalling out, emergency stop activating at low speeds with nothing in front of the truck, horrible weather trim making noise, the list just goes on and on with my vehicle. Each time I brought it in they would always scan tron it and find nothing wrong and tell me, “well we can get a corporate technician out but we aren’t sure when they can come in so we can try and get you into a rental.” No no no, I need my damn truck for work.

It's a brand new engine and during the break in period items wear in and shed material. Best to dump that break in oil. 1500 miles doesn't seem unreasonable. I certainly wouldnt want break in oil circulating for 10k, or even 5k.

Hope you are having a good day

Home with a bad cold here so have some time. .

I don’t put a lot of faith in a lawyer’s site that looks like that, including what appears to be every make and model. But image it’s good for business.

Someone who matters at your dealer and at Toyota ought to hear (in writing) a clear, detailed and concise description each of your issues, which the truck and that dealership. Diligence on everyone’s part would go a long way to improve things.

Sorry to hear your truck has not been as good as mine, so far. I certainly don’t know everything that’s occurred between you and the dealer you’re seeing. It is understandable to not be happy with losing use of your hard earned truck, especially to someone that may not seem to care about fixing it right. You have allow someone the truck, or it won’t get better.

I don’t agree with first oil and filter change at 10.000. Oil filters will bypass when the oil is cold, when loaded with particles and perhaps even new filter and oil at high rpm when oil is warm. Oil takes longer to heat than the coolant temp gauge indicates. To me that means low load and low rpm operation.

To me, when having to settle with a boosted (turbo or supercharged engine), aluminum block, with the hp/displacement ratio, I think highly stressed machine. So will be more careful with it. I expect to tow and load it up heavy, but not hammering on something this costly and difficult to repair.

I have been responsible for maintenance and repair of a lot heavy and light machinery for more than 50 years. While impressed with much of this vehicle, I see a heavy half ton truck as a light duty piece of equipment that will make me pay for hard usage, no matter the emblem on the grille. Not saying you are guilty of abusing your truck, just relating my experience.

Hope you can have a good holiday.

I'm going to ask the dealer to throw in an oil change at 1500km for me and I'll test the oil for the heck of it. When I go to pick up the truck ill take pics of the old engine for your guys to see. This is where I tell you guys I deeply miss the old 5.7

i wouldn’t worry about it at this point , it’s very very few trucks at this point . Toyota seems to be gaining on getting the bugs out recently and seems to be picking up steam, more good tsbs recently and trucks seem to be coming out with less issues

I’ve been watching these threads like crazy as I was trying to gauge when to buy, it’s never going to be perfect but it’s getting pretty cleaned up

they just did a big ecu one for the throttle lag that’s seems to be good for example

You and I are in the same boat. I’ve been watching and trying to decide when the ideal time to buy is. I’m thinking at the moment I’ll hold on to my 17 until 24 at minimum and probably 25-26. I’d guess all the bugs will be worked out by then.
My 17 has been rock solid and I still love it.

That crank bearing….damn. It can happen to any new vehicle but that doesn’t offer any comfort I’m sure.
